I felt like, when he blew his knee out last year after coming off an ACL in high school, that it was a bad omen. It just seemed to me at the time that he just has a genetic disposition for bad knees. A real bummer. I think he needs to hang 'em up.

That being said, I'm no doctor and I sure as hell hope I'm just a dumbass football fan that doesn't know jack about this sort of thing.

Well this sucks... Could the year of injuries be starting over yet again?

The article said Polk was going to be held out of spring practices too? Is he injured too?

Shoulder surgery I believe. We seem to have bad luck with 4 star players, tuioti, major, katoa, miller, blake mackey, hell houston and scott both injured here.

Well we can only hope that he is able to have the surgery soon and recover in time to get back in the mix come Fall camp.

3 ACL tears in what 3 years. Not good. Hope he recovers but will he ever be able to play a full season?

This is what has been setting cu back. Injuries to talented players and other reasons.

Tuioti,miller,major,katoa,houston,scott,etc.... Seems our 4-5 star guys don't have much luck here.

Hmmm... So maybe the "Max is probably done" hed is a little premature?

The article I read said that he's done for the Spring, but that Hawk is optimistic for his return in the Fall.

    fingers crossed.

    Re: Max is probably done

2 ACL tears in one knee are problematic, but at the very least it isn´t the same knee he injured last season. Having said that, he should be able to come back from this. Soccer players have come back from 2 ACL tears in the same knee in one year and if they can come back, an offensive lineman should be able to do so also. For a WR it could be a little problematic as they need to have some sort of speed to get penetration and as they need to be able to make quick cuts and turns and a torn ACL can cost you some speed and general mobility, but as long as the knee is stable, an offensive lineman should be fine in the long run.

It seems to me there should be about the same impact and concern about the knee for soccer players as wide receivers. Both need speed and ability for quick cuts and turns. Can you or anyone explain why there should be more concern for wide receivers. Maybe weight?

Three ACL's in three years. I'm just speculating here, but I've had ACL surgery. I don't mean to be a downer and, certainly, the science has really progressed, but I would think that he will really need to consider long term quality of life in making a decision on his future.

    Re: Max is probably done

It was more in regard to offensive linemen rather than soccer players. I´d agree that WRs and soccer players (except for goalies) are similar in this regard. However, you can make up for a certain lack of pace with positioning in soccer and it´s not uncommon that players lose a step or two in their 30s. Generally speaking I think pace is way more important than pure downhill speed in both sports as it´s all about getting seperation from your opponent.

Take it from someone who knows alot about knee surgeries, I have had seven. If it is just a tear and not completly ripped, they go in with a ortho and stitch it. If it was a complet rip, he would not be back. He needs to get those hamstrings to get big and strong to compensate for his knees.

I saw that too, but realistically, he's going to be pretty far behind everyone else. The chances of him making a meaningful contribution this year are pretty slim IMO. I just hope he gets a full recovery at this point.

    Re: Max is probably done

Excellent point. I actually know of one soccer player who continued playing with a torn ACL as nobody ever noticed it. His musculature kept the knee together and they never noticed he had a torn ACL until a routine checkup.

I understand that Elway had no ACL in one knee. BS? Somebody google it, please.

That's a fact - Elway tore his ACL at Stanford and never had reconstructive surgery.

I skied for about four years with out my right one. Had it fixed before I got off my parents insurance. I wish I had left it alone.

Yep. I'll never forget when Koy tried playing without an ACL. It lasted a quarter or two.

Elway actually destroyed his ACL in high school. He played 20 years of competitive football with no ACL in one knee, and not much cartilage. Of course, he'll have a metal knee soon, but hey.

With our luck they are going to tear up their knees getting out of bed in the morning.

Can´t just all put them in padded cells, either, I guess.

Makes you wonder about the doctor who performed his surgery in high school. I am hoping that the CU surgeon is more advanced and will be able to do a better job on an acl tear
