Baylor walk-on running back Silas Nacita announced that the NCAA ruled him ineligible because he accepted impermissible benefits while he was homeless last summer.

Silas Nacita scored three touchdowns and earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors last season for Baylor, but he's no longer eligible to play.

Nacita, a backup who rushed for three touchdowns last season, walked on to the Baylor program in the summer of 2014 after being homeless for a year.

"A few months before enrolling, a close family friend approached me and said they didn't want me sleeping on floors and wondering how I was going to eat the next meal," Nacita wrote on his @Salsa_Nacho Twitter account, "so they insisted on putting me in an apartment and helping out with those living expenses.

"Because I accepted that offer instead of choosing to be homeless, I am no longer eligible to play football and pursue my dream. I had no idea I was breaking any rules, but I respect the decision of the NCAA."

Nacita, a native of Bakersfield, California, had transferred from Cornell but was unable to enroll in 2013. He lived homeless for the next year and took online community college courses at a library while sleeping on the floor at friends' apartments. He earned first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors in his first year at Baylor.

Nacita did not participate in the Bears' first spring practice on Tuesday.

"Silas Nacita will not be a part of the football program moving forward due to rules violations that impact his eligibility," Baylor athletic director Ian McCaw said in a statement released by the school. "We appreciate his contributions to Baylor football and wish him well as he completes his studies."

There's got to be more to this than just crashing at an apartment to avoid being homeless, right? Right? The NCAA can't be this bad. I mean, **** Baylor and I'm glad if the folks at the NCAA feel the same way, but this looks like bull**** for this kid.

Yeah I think there is a reason reporters haven't commented fully on the story as of yet.

or Cornell? almost double Baylor's tuition at $47k/year.

Feels like there's part of the story not being told.

Sounds like a smart kid and if he enrolled at Cornell he probably had a full ride academic scholarship that covers tuition and fees but not room and board.

Why wouldn't Baylor offer him a scholarship. Sounds like he contributed well and given the situation it may have been worth it.

always been amazed how people "play dumb" when necessary to get what they want. Backfired on this bear, doubt the kid was living on the streets of Waco? not many homeless walking the streets in Waco.

Kid did a great job of getting out in front of the story and trying to frame it in his favor, but **** Baylor AD's statement tells me everything I need to know. There's definitely more to the story and it's more than likely the kid brought this on himself or the **** Baylor AD screwed the pooch.

So ... can he play junior college or DivIII or something? Rather confusing story.
