So let's break this down. Arky won't ever leave the SEC, ND isn't going to the Big 12 which means Pitt is out so that leaves BYU who can't play games on Sundays. Yeah this looks like a stable conference.

Add on top of all that, the volatility of a league that as long as Texas is involved, will never share tv revenues equally. Powerhouses, such as Notre Dame, might not see the long-term viability of a league that consists of 9 or so other members who are fighting for the scraps. If ND wants to join a conference, they'll join the Big 1EN, a conference who has a longevity factor that dwarfs whatever is going on with Texas' conference/divisions. Notre Dame hasn't stayed independent for this long just to cave to a sh*t conference just so they could have their own network. They'll just stay independent, maybe set up an annual game with Texas, but they'll save themselves the embarrassment, and not join any conference Texas is in charge of.

The big xii presidents also added "as long as we are wishing we'd each like a pony." then everyone enjoyed a diet soda and a celery based peanutbutter snack.

Why did he leave Baylor off of that list to the Pac-13?

Big 12 is better off courting BYU, Louisville, New Mexico and/or Memphis to get to 12 teams.

It really is strange that Missouri is so silent through all this process as they were foolish blowhards about the problems in the Big 12 last summer and their pining for the Big Ten. It would only be fitting if they watched A&M go through all the crap and then follow in their wake out the door without incurring all the bad PR that A&M is.

What the Big 12-4 would do then will be fun to watch, and going after the Big East membership could make alot of sense for them as a 16-team "superconference".

Notre Dame would never join the B12 but if they did it would be hilarious to watch. About the only school in the country that is as blatantly greedy, self-rightious, and scheming as ND is Texas. They both think that the rules don't apply to them because they are special, they both think that they deserve a bigger piece of any pie because they are special, and they both think that they should get to call the shots. I cannot imagine what the end result of having them in the same conference would be but it wouldn't be good in the end.

Arky has no interest in getting involved with the Texas drama again and less reason considering that they are in the SEC, throw ND in the mix and if Arky got kicked out of the SEC they wouldn't be interested.

Pitt as stated only comes if ND comes and then I question if they would really be interested.

BYU is a good posibility because they are not dealing from strength but think they should be, another great ego partner for Texas. Somehow put UT, ND, and BYU in the same room and they wouldn't need to play games to be entertaining.

    Tejass Rivals? Isn't that chipster?

I don't care. Let Tejass draw a bunch of other teams in. Create a new conference. It too will die in a few years.

I hope Mizzou waits until right after the Big12 finally adds a couple schools and gets back to 12 teams. Then immediately announce they're leaving for the Big 10 and f**k that conference up again.

I mean... there is chatter from Chip saying ND and Texas will form a 2 team conference..... They will play an 11 game schedule with each other and will have exclusive rights on all TV's in the country.

I love the part where it says the rest of the B12-2 schools (i.e. the 8 dwarfs) would be amenable to giving up MORE cash in order to get Notre Dumb into the league. Those poor suckers have no clue - total dingleberries. Give up more cash so the rich can keep getting richer. **** you UT.

Only for the conference 'haves', no raisins for ISU, KSU or Baylor...TT snuck raisins off atm's when they were daydreaming about the SEC.

Bogus. Arkansas hated Texas so much that even with a good tradition of rivalry games had to get out of the sphere of influence. Now that the SEC has grown to the conference it has there is no way a member school decides to leave. The money and exposure is just too good. And who would want to return to that poor a balance of power in a conference?

Memphis would bolt in a heartbeat for the Big East for basketball exposure. What could Big 12's justification for desiring them be, besides the following two reasons? One, makes an (albeit very small) intrusion for the conference into SEC territory. Two, no one else likes what the Big 12 has to offer and they decide to at least strengthen their basketball reputation. Memphis has zero to offer for the football program outside of adding mid-south geography and market size.

They don't care about what they bring to the table from a competitive standpoint. UT would just assume have another bitch to slap around and call it a "conference game". But the addition of the Memphis market to the B12 footprint would be very attractive. If I were Beebe (thank God I'm not), I'd be looking into adding Memphis - just as soon as I'm done cleaning Dodds pool, that is.

Thank you Captain Obvious. This pretty much applies to anybody making an argument for why ND, Arky, and Pitt wouldn't want to go to the Big 12. We know. It's obvious.

The big 2, UT and OU, know that they have the little members of the conference by the short hairs and that the little ones are feeling it.

ISU, KSU, Baylor, TT know they are getting screwed, and they know it's not a healthy relationship. At the same time they know they don't have much choice. Stay in the Big XII, watch UT and OU collect their $20+ million a year while they get the scraps at $8-10 million a year or get an equal share in some conference like the MWC where a good year is $2 million. Mizzou, KU, maybe even OSU have at least the hope of other options, for the tail enders its clean up Bevo's droppings or go minor league. Even KSU's link with KU probably won't save them in the end. KU is marginal for a major conference, mostly because of basketball, but doesn't have the pull to drag KSU along with them like OU and OSU or UT and friends.

This is entertaining. ND and Arky are not coming to the B12, yes that is obvious, IMO they are just blowing smoke to keep the B12 alive long enough to get the LHN off the ground, having every intention of shafting the rest of the B12 as soon as it is viable....

I agree that this story is horsesh*t, but consider this: the revenue sharing model of the Big 10 is fundamentally incompatible with adding Notre Dame. What is the only major conference that has an established precedent for both unequal revenue distribution and school-specific TV deals? The truth is that the Big 12 model is a potentially ideal fit for both Notre Dame and BYU....they get to preserve their established independent TV deals, and reap the benefits of conference affiliation.

I don't think it will happen, but I can see the Big 12 as an attractive conference for programs that wish to preserve a semblance of TV independence....

The revenue model of every conference is in-compatible with adding Notre Dame.

The main reason is their current TV deal. ND bring zero additional TV revenue to the table and is actually a net-taker of revenue because their deal would likely preempt the conference deal and result in ND's games being shown on CBS as part of their exclusive deal. People seem to be having a really hard time understand the fact that ND does not have their own "network" a-la-LHN they sold their most valuable asset their football games to CBS. So if you ad ND, you add them only for non-revenue sports and basketball until 2015 when that deal is up (yes this does coincide nicely with the current big-12 expiration) and you have to deal with the cost of their exit from the current non-revenue/bball conference affiliations. Some combo of the LHN and ND's second tier rights would certainly sell and sell well; but the up-front high value first tier rights for the big-12 are significantly diminished by adding Notre Dame.

I don't understand how the Notre Dame deal would work.

Notre Dame has an exclusive contract with NBC. Every Notre Dame HOME game is carried by NBC. Notre Dame gets all the TV money. So if Notre Dame got to keep their money when they joined the Big 12 - does that mean when UT plays a road game at Notre Dame, UT gets NONE of the money? How would that work?
