New leadership intends to turn around CU athletics

Looney was the Sports Illustrated writer who penned the infamous article about Chuck Fairbanks' desk back in 1980. "There Ain't No More Gold in Them Thar Hills" was about CU cutting sports like baseball, wrestling, and gymnastics while redoing Fairbanks' office to the tune of $50,000. http://www.cuatthegame.com/1980/colorado-v-indiana/ It's a fair piece, but it was a hard one for Buff fans to take. Looney has "been there, done" that when it comes to CU and financial difficulties.
