Alright. Time to move foward. What do we know about WVU.

Pat White- He was supposedly coming to CU until GB shot it down. Crazy rumor eh?

Noel Divine- Star in the making. He can light it up for 6 every touch.

The Defense- They are pretty inexperienced at that side of the ball.

    Your thoughts.......

This story was written before they got upset vs. ECU.

    Not Standing Pat
    By Steve Stone for MSNsportsNET.com
    August 30, 2008

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Quarterback Pat White did his best to debunk the theory that WVU’s new offensive wrinkles in the passing game may not suit his skills very well.

The Daphne, Ala., native completed 25-of-33 passes for 208 yards and a career-high five touchdowns en route to leading WVU to a 48-21 victory over the Villanova Wildcats on Saturday afternoon at Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium.

White’s ability to spread the ball around to his receivers allowed for satisfying performances by receivers Alric Arnett and Jock Sanders. Arnett had four catches for 70 yards and two touchdowns while Sanders hauled in eight receptions for 62 yards and two scores.

Pirates contain White, shut down No. 8 Mountaineers
    By Mark Schlabach
    ESPN.com

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- To the surprise of nearly everyone who flocked into Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium on Saturday, the clouds cleared before East Carolina played West Virginia.

Nearly as surprising, the sun again shined on the Pirates in their 24-3 upset of the No. 8 Mountaineers.

Not only were the Pirates heavy underdogs against a nationally ranked foe for the second week in a row, but the game was supposed to be played in a driving rainstorm -- or at least in very windy conditions. Tropical Storm Hanna blew up the East Coast early Saturday and the ECU campus was supposed to be in its path.

WVU's O-line adjusts to pass blocking
    September 4, 2008 3:08 PM
    Posted by ESPN.com's Brian Bennett

Turns out you can teach an O-line new tricks.

Just look at West Virginia. For years, the Mountaineers' linemen have been schooled to zone-block for the run, creating seams for Pat White and friends to zip through. Now, this veteran group is being asked to move in the opposite direction, to backpedal and pass protect.

The swift culture change commenced last Saturday against Villanova, when White chucked it 33 times for 205 yards and five touchdowns, and the Mountaineers only handed off 22 times.

Honestly, If we can prevent White and Divine from breaking big plays on the ground, we're in good shape.

WV looked very beatable yesterday, but I'm sure OU thought the same thing going into the Fiesta Bowl after WV had just lost to Pitt at home.

i like that. "that's what we get for thinking," right? wvu has some definite areas where they can be exploited.

i am cautious about the angle of the blog. they had just played an ecu team that has been on the build for this moment. they did look human rather than superhuman during the earlier parts of the nova game.

there is no reason to doubt though that with appropriate preparation, solid communication, and building from our mistakes, that we could win this game.

Preparing for Pat not so easy
    By Mike Casazza
    Daily Mail sports writer

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- It's not that Pat White is conveniently forgetful and chose this week of all the others to fail to remember the events of past games against Saturday's opponent, East Carolina.

"I honestly can't remember," he said.

To review, in 2005 and 2006 the Pirates stymied West Virginia's running game and held the Mountaineers to 280 total rushing yards and 47 total points.

In 2005, White was not yet the phenom he's since become, but he played and didn't play all that well -- 5-for-8 passing with two interceptions and a touchdown, three carries for five yards.

    Changes in works for WVU
    By Mickey Furfari
    For the Daily Mail

MORGANTOWN -- Coach Bill Stewart said Sunday afternoon corrections and changes already were in the works for the West Virginia football team following Saturday's stunning 24-3 setback at East Carolina.

He and his assistants had met in the morning to view game tapes, see what needs to be corrected, and discuss some changes which might be beneficial to both the struggling offense and the leaky defense.

The players were going to be shown the tapes later in the day, observe the mistakes they made, then participate in a light practice session Sunday night. West Virginia does not return to action until Sept. 18, against Colorado at Bolder, Colo.

One thing the defense has been strong at is stopping the run. Our LB's will be all over the place.

those were my thoughts. ewu had 303 out of their 350 yards on us thanks to the pass. the rams had 187 out of their 258 yards owing to the pass. to date, they have allowed only 118 rushing yards.

i am far more comfortable with our ability to stop the run at this point.

do you think they focus on the run these next couple weeks, knowing that we are mo betta at stopping that?

i don't think i would choose that if i were their head coach.

Their Oline is very impressive. They can create holes against anyone imo. Collins definitley has his work cut out for him. I'm thankful that we have some time to prepare for WVU.

As good as Noel Devine is....he dances WAY too much in order to gain his yards....if our LB's persue as good as they have (I.E. Like how Mohler played on Sat.) then I would love to see him dance around 2 or 3 guys in the backfield

He's also gonna get layed out and hurt real soon if he continues to do the Reggie Bush stop and go every time he runs the ball

good read....thanks!....Coach Stewart likes to talk and get into details....my opinion sounds like he is a little worried about his team....the more I read the better I continue to like the way we match up with these guys....anyone have any info on their D-Line, because if our O-Line can get it going we should have a great chance at a W

How about this quote from Stewart:

"I do not believe in oxygen. That's a joke,'' Stewart said. "Oxygen's for astronauts. You go over on the sideline and put an oxygen [mask] on, the play's already over. What do you need oxygen for? Now if you had oxygen while you were playing maybe that would help you. I don't know. I've never been to NASA and experimented with it. But I don't think in my lifetime we'll have football masks with oxygen in them.''
