Are there any current NFL assistants that would be good hires for Colorado in terms of HC?

A few assistants in the NFL I would like to see Bohn interview are Jerry Gray(Redskins Secondary Coach), Kyle Shannahan(Texans OC), Ron Rivera(Chargers DC), Rob Ryan(Browns DC), and Dirk Koetter(Jags OC).

For some reason I like Rob Ryan, this guy has great intensity and comes from a great coaching pedigree. He just makes poor decisions in the jobs he takes.

Shannahan, if he can his dad to come with him.:smile2:

The issue I have with all the other names is how well will they be able to recruit.

how old is Kyle Shanahan, i mean he played for (transferred from Duke) to UT when Chris Simms was playing. 27? pass.

Rob Ryan was DC at either OSU or OU (i get the Ryans mixed up)...so, he may know the lay of the land Texas-recruiting-wise. but, not too exciting to me really.

I know hes another former BSU coach.:sad1:

Koetter was a pretty good coach at ASU, probably deserved some of the criticism he received though.

Okie State. I've always liked his defenses (remember the Raiders a few years ago - top 5 defense even though they were on the field the entire game), but I have to think that he's one of those guys who is a great DC but not head coach material

Kyle is 30, but he'd be by a wide margin the youngest coach in college football with 0 college football experience outside of being a player.

Ryan was the DC at Okie State, then went to New England and won 2 Super Bowl's coaching their LB's.

He has an impresive resume, and somehow surived in Oakland for 4 seasons.

The same can be said for almost every assistant who hasn't had their chance as a HC.

We'll never know unless he gets an opportunity, if he does 1 thing he'd give this program an image alright.

Koetter was 40-33 overall at ASU, 21-28 in conference - not "pretty good." He lost to KSU in the 2002 Holiday Bowl, then beat Purdue and Rutgers in the 2004 Sun Bowl and 2005 Insight Bowl, respectively. He didn't coach the team for the 2006 Hawaii Bowl, which they lost to Hawaii under Erickson. So he did qualify for 4 bowl games in 6 years, but couldn't really compete in conference play or against the better teams, going 2-19 against ranked teams.

Hawkins even gets a mention in this article.

We kicked his arse in 1995... I was at that game in Madison....

Koy Detmer got so excited he jumped over his receiver in the endzone after he threw a TD pass...

That article is frighteningly familiar to our current situation. The financial issues, special teams issues, come from ahead losses, losing records vs key competition. As far as I'm concerned Boise coaches are to be avoided like the plague for at least 10 years now, Peterson included.

Jeremy Bates is somewhat interesting. If he brought his dad along as DC, but his lack of coordinator experience worries me. Pete Carroll must have pretty high praises for him since he brought him in and named him assistant head coach, though.

Rob Ryan, ugh. I personally would love to see Rex Ryan get the **** kicked out of him for how that retard acts, but one thing is for sure, that family knows defense. Not a fit at all in Boulder though.

I know he isnt an assistant and I wouldnt want him but Dick Jauron got fired from Buffalo today. Seems to me even dead coaches, literally lol, are being brought up so he's a live one. He will be a coordinator in the NFL somewhere, doubt he would come to the college game.

I dont see Shanny wanting any part of that job. Their offense is utterly upside down. They are already talking about taking another qb in the draft and starting over. I could be wrong but I dont think Shanny wants to do that again.

In my opinion, the only job that pulls Shanahan back into the NFL this year is the Chicago Bears.

The "premiere" NFL assistants that could/should be ready for HC gigs (NFL or NCAA):

Leslie Frazier - DC Minnesota Vikings
2-yr stint as DB coach at Illinois, been in NFL ever since.

Russ Grimm - Assistant HC/OL coach - Arizona Cardinals formerly with Steelers
Never coached in NCAA and is probably inline to be one of the next HC in NFL.

Jason Garrett - Assistant Coach/OC - Dallas Cowboys
ditto from above with the "highest paid assistant ($3mil/year) added.

Ron Rivera - DC San Diego Chargers
    Never coached in NCAA.

Brian Schottenheimer - OC NY Jets
short time assistant at Syracuse and USC before beginning NFL coaching career.

The fact that he coached at Westmar is good enough for me.
