O-Line @ Elitch's

I used to work door at potters in the summers. I saw the upscale walrus, and drank margs at the rio. At least the sink is still there. does the sundowner still exist? What about the west end tavern?

West end does for sure, and I believe the Sundowner does too.

West End closed for a while and then reopened. Sundowner is still there, but far different from the all-they-had-on-tap 20oz PBR and you could still smoke days. it's still got some flava, but you aren't gonna take a biker chick home from there these days.

K's mos def has the best rooftop, IMO. when they first built that thing it was rickety as a muhfugger. real amateur carpentry job. the one that no one knows about on the UMC is pretty sweet (but they don't serve beer) and they have cameras up there now, so you can't sneak stuff up or smoke a bowl.

the West End rooftop is blocked on the west side now. what used to be that gas station on the corner of 9th/Pearl and then something else got razed and the property turned into a 3-4 story multi-use/office space....so from the west end you can't see the Flats anymore.

This thread has taken a turn toward teh awesome.

I forgot about the Sundowner! Good times.

The door at Potters? Was it Rich that used to run that show? He offered me a job at the door once, claiming that he liked smaller guys to bounce for him. That doesn't really explain your emplyment though.

Ummm, did you ever escort a guy out after he busted up all of the lights around the bathroom mirror with a beer mug in each hand? Also, did you step on his face until the cops arrived 10 minutes later?

Just a couple of hypothetical questions.

The door at Potters? Was it Rich that used to run that show? I worked for Terry, I don't remember Rich.

Ummm, did you ever escort a guy out after he busted up all of the lights around the bathroom mirror with a beer mug in each hand? I do not recall such an action, so probably not. I did accidently bang a few weekend puglists' heads on the columns by the dance floors on occasion.

Also, did you step on his face until the cops arrived 10 minutes later? If I stepped on your face for 10 min. you would still have remnants of size 16 nike tread marks, so hypothetically, no.:smile2:

We rarely had fights the nights I worked, but I'd always hear about what I missed on the nights I didn't. I guess I had a calming effect on drunks.
Just a couple of hypothetical answers.

I remember Terry. I'm trying to remember the name of the head bouncer at the door. I might have him confused with Rich who worked at the Walrus. Would not mess with that dood, BTW, though I accidently did once. He asked me kindly to not do it again. I complied.

My buddy has some nice photos of lakeside at http://www.mikulich.com/aaron/lakeside_photos.htm

Keep hearing the Dark Horse is soon to fall, may become a parking lot.
That makes no sense to me, as it seems like the DH would be more profitable, but take it for what it is: a rumor.

I'd be sad to see the Dark Horse go. Did anyone ever do the tricycle races at the Dark Horse?? That bar was awesome - great burgers, cheap beer and lots of TVs to catch games. I think it's only problem has been its location, really only a convenient location if you lived in Will Vill. If Dark Horse moved to the Hill or Pearl, it would do so much better.

What's this about the Walrus getting classy? I loved that place for cheap pints, free peanuts and good looking & down-to-earth-girls.

How about Connor O'Neils?? Is it still there (I haven't been there since I graduated in 05) - that was always a chill bar...and $3 car bombs!!! Does it get any better?!

I think FlaBuff & I were there a good 10 years before you, so I was relaying that the Walrus was different in the mid-90s than it is now. I still haunt there frequently on my visits to Boulder though & I don't think it's changed much since the main overhaul sometime in the late 90s/early 2000s.

Connor O'Neills is still there. Of course, I knew it as The James.

did tryke night last week . Walrus is still dirty, but now its populated more by the greek societies than anything... but ya its still on my favorites list. I like the downer more now that it isn't smoke city (just can't stand cig smoke)... but I LOVE connor's. Just BA.

The scumdowner was my favorite bar in boulder. Now, it sucks balls. The vibe has totally changed and the juke box is sub par.

Yeah, I think Holland Express was indeed the name of that one. I remember riding it about 100 times in one day for some reason. It was a fun ride, but certainly not 100 times in one day fun.

I like the search results that led to allbuffs. With a name like allbuffs and the very first picture, I wonder what people think we are when they get to the site.

The splinter is what they are on in the pic. That old one had a mining theme. We used to jump off in the middle of the ride all the time. Made the employees cranky!

I worked at the old park for three summers in the rides department. 1990-1992. Those were the best summers of my life. It was so much fun! We'd volunteer to work double shifts and then go to parties afterwards several days a week. I made some lifelong friends there. And of course there were girls everywhere you looked!

My third year I was an assistant supervisor/trainer. Before the park opened I'd train people if they were operating a ride for the first time. Then during the day I'd have to relieve a few people while they took their breaks. That only took up half the day. The rest of the day I took care of any problems that would arise and walked around to make sure everyone was doing their jobs properly. (Translation: I mostly just BS'd with my friends and talked to girls.) And we supervisors also went on lots of "safety checks". Any time we wanted to ride we just told the patron we were cutting in front of, "I'm sorry. Your going to have to wait for the next ride. We are required to do safety checks throughout the day." Good times!

I was there when the costliest hailstorm in U.S. history hit. It caused $625 million dollars worth of damage. Those hailstones were at least the size of baseballs! When it was over there was about 18 inches of ice on the ground. It hit so quickly and unexpectedly that lots of people were stuck on the Skyride. The power cut out before they could get everyone off. They got pretty messed up. I think a few dozen people were taken to the hospital. It was freaking crazy! People were freaking the f out! There was a tornado warning, too. Luckily for me, I bought my first car a week after that storm hit. The storm busted out the windshields on all of the cars and left the bodies with more craters than the moon.

Liar!!! Tubing Boulder creek was awesome, if you asked nice, folks would toss spring rolls down to you from 1st Wok buffet right past the bridge...:smile2::smile2:

I always preferred sausage gravy on my spring rolls.

Dude, who would eat at 1st Wok when Mustard's is right across the street?! Mmmmm Jumbo Dog with cheese, grilled onions and brown mustard and cheese fries. Why didn't they just give Givens a charge account at Mustard's, he'd be 300+ now.

simple.... 1st Wok believed anyone when they told them how old they were..... :drink2:
