Official RPI Watch 2014-15

Saturday:

Our Buffs (2-0) are @ Wyoming (2-0). No need to explain much. Crucial road game with a top 25 ranking as the reward for a W.

Air Force (2-1) vs Western State (DII): DII opponent so it has no RPI meaning. Western previously lost 61-46 to Wyoming.

#21 Nebraska (2-0) @ Rhode Island (2-0): Rhode Island is improved. A middle of the pack A10 squad this year. Corn are only favored by 1.

Lipscomb (1-2) vs Transylvania (DIII): DIII opponent so no RPI effect.

Also, Hawaii improved to 4-1 with a 74-70 win over Pittsburgh, who fell to 2-1. Hawaii is on the other end of the Diamond Head bracket from us so it's unlikely we face them, but not impossible.

Go Bows

RPI Watch never surrenders, even after our worst offensive performance since Harry Truman inauguration week 1949. 10 months before East Germany even existed. Well over a year before the start of the Korean War, and even worse: DBT hadn't yet been born.

In fact, Saturday's loss makes it even more important our opponents hold up and we find some key wins.

Sunday:

Drexel (0-4) vs Cornell (2-3) (Charleston, SC): Drexel isn't great, but this is a game they should win. They're a notch above Cornell on paper.

#11 Wichita State (2-0) vs Newman (Non-DI): No RPI effect.

USC (2-2) vs Penn State (3-1) (Charleston, SC): Pac and B1G bottom feeders collide. Unfortunately, Penn State is probably the better team. Would be a nice win for USC if they can pull the slight upset.

Georgia (2-1) vs Florida Atlantic (1-2): FAU is one of the worst teams in the new, weaker, CUSA. Georgia should win comfortably.

Washington (2-0) vs Pacific (2-1): Pacific is picked last in the WCC. Washington should roll.

Colorado State (2-0) vs Mercer (2-1): As much as it sucks, we need CSU to do pretty well this season as our OOC could collapse if we don't show up and get key W's at Diamond Head . It's our one "decent" OOC home game. Obviously we need to win, but we need CSU to win games as our other key OOC games are on a neutral court in Hawaii and at Georgia.

UCLA (3-0) vs Long Beach State (2-2): LBSU is coming off a 9 point win over a decent Kansas State squad. If UCLA comes out sleeping, LBSU is capable of providing a scare.

UCLA beat LBSU by 14. Misleading score. LBSU played them tough and it was a 5 point game with 3 minutes left. Foul shots in junk time skewed this one.

Monday: Big day for the Pac. We're going to begin to see what this conference is made of as these sqauds face their first real opposition of the season.

#2 Arizona (3-0) vs Missouri (2-1) (Maui, HI): This is a Missouri squad pegged 7th in the preseason SEC poll and they have already lost at home by 8 to UMKC. Arizona should win comfortably against a typically mediocre SEC team.

Arizona State (3-0) vs Maryland (3-0) (Kansas City, MO): ASU's first game against anyone with half a pulse. Maryland is completely untested as well. The Turgeon experiment has never gained traction in College Park. Terps are projected 10th in the B1G. Still, I expect them to prove better than ASU and grind out an ugly win.

Lipscomb (2-2) @ Belmont (3-1): One of those "wtf?" games where local teams play twice. These two already met one week ago at Lipscomb, where Belmont won by 25. Lipscomb is going to get killed.

Oregon State (3-0) vs Oklahoma State (4-0) (Las Vegas, NV): Oklahoma State is down this year, picked only 8th in the Big XII. Still, I don't see Oregon State being on their level. If there's any hope for Oregon State, they would always pull an upset OOC win in November under Robinson. Maybe that will continue with the new staff.

San Francisco (2-0) vs Hawaii (4-1) (Estero, FL): San Fran is completely untested, while Hawaii is coming off a win over Pittsburgh yet has also lost to High Point. When in doubt, assume Hawaii is going to struggle due to the huge travel for this one

Oregon (3-0) vs #24 Michigan (3-0) (Brooklyn, NY): Big opportunity here for Oregon to bag a quality upset win. Nothing to lose. I could see the Ducks hanging around and having a chance.

Wyoming (3-0) vs Florida A&M (0-4): This miserable FAMU squad has only gotten out of the 40s once in 4 tries. Do they manage more than 33? 9 straight road games to start the season for FAMU. Insane.

Auburn (2-1) vs Tulsa (2-1) (Las Vegas, NV): Key game we need Auburn to win. Tulsa is in the AAC with the likes of UConn, SMU,Memphis, Cincinnati, Temple etc and picked 5th. Really need Auburn to win swing games like this to get their RPI respectable.

Thinking OSU has got the edge on this one. Then again, OSU plays pretty tough too.

Auburn about to lose to Tulsa in Las Vegas. ****. Key swing game we needed. Now they'll face Oregon State next.

Nice job by San Fran beating Hawaii with relative ease.

Tuesday:

Our Buffs (2-1) face (3-1) Air Force. We're coming off our worst offensive performance in over 65 years. How do we respond? Air Force isn't the worst MWC squad, but they're one of them. Buffs are favored by 16. Show me some mother****ing offense. I want points and I want Dom's minutes on the rise. Air Force will play smart ball, pass well and play their asses off. We could learn a few things, but we simply have too much talent for them at home unless our problems run far, far deeper than we believe.

Arizona State (3-1) vs Alabama (3-1) (Kansas City, MO): Sun Devils are coming off a loss to Maryland while Alabama is coming off a loss to Iowa St. This should be a pretty even matchup, both teams are likely lower middle of the pack squads in the Pac and SEC, respectively.

#3 Arizona (4-0) vs Kansas State (3-1) (Maui, HI): K-State will be Arizona's toughest test yet in this young season. Don't see how Arizona doesn't pull away sooner or later and probably win by 10-15, though.

Oregon (3-1) vs #14 VCU (3-1) (Brooklyn, NY): VCU just got absolutely dismantled by Villanova tonight. Perhaps Oregon can catch VCU hungover and steal a quality win. Both teams have faced Toledo: Oregon won by 10, VCU by 9.

Nebraska (2-1) vs UN-Omaha (2-1): Corn are out of the top 25 after losing @ Rhode Island while Omaha did just beat Marquette by 9. But I think we all know the Corn probably roll here. And I don't think we're going to play them in Hawaii, honestly.

San Francisco (3-0) vs Florida Gulf Coast (4-0) (Estero, FL): This FGCU squad is still very solid. This would help make San Fran a stronger opponent for our resume.

Stanford (3-1) vs Delaware (0-3): Cannon fodder for Stanford. Road-weary Blue Hens haven't had a home game yet.

USC (2-3) vs Cal State Fullerton (1-2): Let's just call this for what it is: USC is horrible. Favored by 5 at home against the next to last squad in the Big West. Trojans have got to win this type of game. USC and Wazzu have been damaging Pac basketball left and right so far.

San Francisco lost by 15 to FGCU in a neutral tourney that is really a home game for FGCU. That's a lot of travel for SF, too. Game not representative of how good they are. That's going to be a tough out for the Buffs.
