Here is a news release about it. Unfortunately, no details yet on how much the subscription will cost or which countries it will be available in.
Nice. Private vpn time
I am really surprised it isn't on AppleTV. any updates there?
This. So this. My cord will be cut as soon as the contract is up...
Glad to see the PACN is moving aggressively on these new broadcast platforms. That was the promise of the business model and the HQ near silicon valley.
I'm less concerned with DirecTV and more interested in how PACN partners with google, youtube, apple and others to position itself at the cutting edge for the next wave of broadcast innovation.
AppleTV and Roku deals would be huge
i dont enjoy the buffering
It´d help if they actually released the list of countries
The list of countries is out today:
@boydbuff you're in luck, Chile is one of them. I heard that pricing for premium content was a monthly or yearly plan - the only number that stuck with me was $100 for the annual plan.
For folks thinking about VPN, Canada and the UK are both on the list. Canada is great because being geographically closer, lags/buffering are much less likely, especially if you're actually paying for a decent VPN (free ones, not so much). The UK is great, because there are also decent VPNs and you can get an online NFL subscription (or at least you could a few years ago).
I will be beta testing the VPN solutions this season, and most likely cutting the cord as soon as my contract is up (Nov/Dec if I remember right).
The press release says they will broadcast 35 football games and 150 basketball games. So, about 2/3rds of the PAC football games and no OOC, right?
Sweet news! Definitely stoked about this. Anyone know how many Buffs games are anticipated to be on the Pac 12 Network this year? I'd like to connect up with Sam Bennion who is here in Chile to watch a game or two but after several back and forths with his dad we basically found out that he is not recommended to spend anytime with boosters even in Chile and even if he pays his everything for himself!
Edit: Reading the posting, the other disadvantage is that they will only be airing the Pac 12 National channel so regional games, like the Mountain region, won't be shown.
I wouldn't bet on that. My guess would be that they will have a video feed of the national channel going all the time, but that extra feeds will be added when multiple events (esp. football & basketball) are scheduled concurrently. (Like the cable/satellite companies broadcast extra channels when this occurs.) The additional marginal cost of adding those extra feeds is essentially zero, so I would expect it to happen. Also, at least for football, the conference is pretty good at minimizing concurrent scheduling as much as they can - and worst case scenario, you can always catch the football in 60 re-run later in the week.
skibum- if you don't mind, keep us posted on what you find in regards to a VPN solution. Gotta do that...
Sorta off topic - but Time Warner out here in CA has picked up ever regional channel in HD (new within the last couple of months). TOTALL BADASS!!!
