Paige on how Shanahan would do at CU

Not that I have any way of proving it, but just last week I had talked to a friend about this very thing. Interesting (albeit likely impossible) thoughts to say the least:

Seriously, what is it with people's fascination with Shanahan coaching the buffs. Sure, he can coach, but he can't evaluate talent worth a damn and he's as bad as Hawkins in his Hubris and unwillingness to change.

Shanny can't hear you because he's got his two superbowl rings plugging his ears.

Shanny struggles with defense, but the guy knows offensive talent.

He can evaluate offensive talent. I bet we would land a 5 star qb his first year here. Plus could you imagine Darrell Scott running in a Shannahan offense?

I also think that at the college level, his 'inability' to evaluate defensive talent would be overshadowed by is 45 point per game average

if shanahan comes to coach at CU, they ought to build a freaking shrine in boulder. college football fans from around the world make a pilgrimage there to pray for their miracles.

it would be called the "Shrine of Impossible Football Dreams Come True."

There is no other coaching job that would be more commutable for him. No plane rides and he would for sure have the attention of Colorado again... Just a matter of time before he had the country's attention.

How much do I need to donate to make this happen?

Do you think Paige wrote that article with a straight face?

And do you think Shanahan could even read it with a straight face!!?

it would be awesome if we could land Shanahan. He would ROCK as the head coach. of CU! He would turn around the program and become a legend in Colorado sports.

If we do part ways with the current administration...come to CU Shanahan!!!!!

I'm not so sure, is it possible to have enough control at the college level to satisfy Shanahan?

So is going to sell both of his houses here or just commute all the time? If the guy loves living in Denver and still wants to coach then he has one option.

He should look at the Spurrier's experience. In college he was the toast of the town and got to have a lot of free time to play golf and whatever. When he got to the NFL, he still went out to play golf and do whatever while his competition was putting in 80 hr work weeks and we know what happened after that.

With Shanny at CU, he could still do all the golfing he wants and have plenty of free time while still being a big time coach. In Dallas or anywhere in the NFL, he will be working his butt off for a GM or owner that limits what he wants to do.

You just hit on the reason I question him going to Dallas. At CU it would be Mike Shannahan's football program. He would pick his assistants, he would pick the recruiting targets, he would decide the system.

At Dallas he would be working for Jerry Jones. Jones may promise him a lot of things but Shanny is intelligent enough to know that Jones ego is way to big to ever allow someone else to be the face of the team, or the decision maker. Jones, or some other egodriven NFL owner may overcome that with a wad of money but Shanny is wealthy enough already that I am not sure he would be easy to convince.

That would be a disaster. There's far too much PR involved in the AD position for Shanahan to be anything but ****ty at it.

If Shanahan does take over in Dallas next season, then there is one sure-fire way to get him coaching the Buffs in the future...

    ...hire Wade Phillips! :smile2:

Never happen, Shanny would never get the staff he would want with what we pay assistants. That would be nice though,.

Might be able to land Kubiak if the Texans don't start winning some games

Hiring shanny is too logical of a move. That is why it won't happen.

As Paige noted in the article - Bohn could pay Shanny $500k for the next 2 seasons (reducing the blow of buying out Hawk). Beyond that, you immediately capture the love of a huge portion of the Denver Broncos fanbase, bringing in new fans. You can gain immediate legitimacy with recruits, as well as a national profile. You bring in an excellent gameday coach. Shanny just built a massive house in the area, he has endorsements here, and supposedly loves Colorado. He has shown interest in college coaching. He has already won 2 superbowls, and his ego is just big enough that he might want to solidfy a stellar coaching career with some big college wins, including a national championship. If he came in right now and turned this team around, then ticket sales would soar, booster support would soar, and the new national prominence would increase the fanbase and loyalty of alumni around the country.

No, it makes just too much sense
