This is dated July 26, so doesn't have Travon Patterson yet, but other items of interest.

I do note that the Quarterback grouping does NOT have the *or* designating we don't know who is first in line, first on the field. There is a front runner established.
Things can always change, and will, but interesting stuff here.

Shown Alphabetically, we have a lot of guys competing for returns. Like. :smile2:

This is hugely important and good to see nobody is taking it for granted.

Which group do you think Patterson is going to be in?

Can someone please grab that LG spot? Looks pretty suspect right now. Also find it interesting that Bakhtiari is second string at LT. I always figured Jack Harris or Ryan Dannewitz was the heir apparent there (may still be, who knows).

As far as DB goes, we cannot afford any injuries there. Yikes.

In the pre-spring depth chart analysis, one writer said this about Patterson:

Wish I knew what he meant by "his skill set is different from other receivers" --- it's a compliment, but what does it mean?

Like just about everyone else on the team with decent hands and some speed, he'll be considered for Kick and Punt returns.

I thought I read that his hands were suspect.

Haven't come across that ... and I've been searching for Patterson info. LMK if you find it from a reliable source. Oh heck, just post it if you find it, there are no reliable sources.

    items of interest:

Webb over Rippy at Mike LB

    Hildreth over BLock at RB

No AND between the QB names

Adkins at LG, didn't expect that, but nice to see a CO kid do well

    That is all.

It means most of USC's WRs are big but not very fast. Patterson=small but fast.

DB and DT/NT is very shaky if we have injuries.

    Patterson USC bio, FWIW.

He had a decent spring game, coming in second in the receiver stats:
    Kiffin liked him.

I could be wrong, but I think it was from some poster on a USC board. Definitely not reliable at all. But I may think i might have seen it there, maybe.

    I read that too.

USC fans have mostly been saying that USC favors big WRs in its pro style offense and that Kiffin is continuing the same offense. Big & Slow (Mike Williams) favored over Small & Fast (Travon Patterson). Pretty much the consensus was that he was never going to be more than a returner and role player in the offense for Troy.

There was also some stuff about an injury setting Travon back a few years ago. I only saw the 1 post that questioned his hands.

"he's a player who often shines in practice yet his opportunities during games have been few and far between."

Boy, is he coming to the right coaching staff ........ should feel right at home.

Also, the PK spot is still completely up for grabs

Sorry, but all the O skill positions look weak. Except for a few players, there seems to be a ton of walkons backing them up. Unless Hansen is strong this season, the skill position players won't be a strength this season. Didn't realize it but having Simas on the squad sure made them look better.

I've been following the Buffs for over 20 years and I've never seen a weaker RB situation than what we got right now. It was somewhat acceptable when the thinking was we're strong at the WR position. But with Simas gone, suddenly ALL the skill positions are looking less than adequate. Oh, man, that Patterson kid can't get here soon enough.

Your post makes me wonder why Terdema asked to move to S.

It has been speculated that there were concussion issues. Also, The Terd (I mean absolutely no disrespect, I just think that's a too funny of a nickname not to use) asked to be moved to S before Simas ****ed up again.

And I agree. Our RB situation is really pretty bad. I hope one of the bigger FR is ready to play Big 12 ball.

RB is one position where a true freshman can come in and play. Blocking takes some teaching, but it shouldn't be a problem. I'm excited to see what the 2 Jones can do.

Whats going on with Darden? we could really use the 6'4 height he provides.

Some interesting stuff as has been noted. I think WR will look a little better when Patterson is added and RB will be looking better when the freshman arrive. TE depth doesn't really excite me, hopefully Clark or DaVaughn are ready to step in if Walters or Deehan go down. I wonder if having Harris, Dannewitz, and Bahr at RT is more of a safety net in case Givens has to miss games again this season. DL depth beyond the 2 deep is a little worrying. Depth at the DB positions and LB is pretty frightening. CB play in 2011 sure will be interesting.

Agree, but don't forget UGA CB transfer Pugh will be eleigible next season. Olatoye is supposed to be good.

Injuries (plural) at any number of positions could be a nightmare. Remember that Bonsu will be back at full speed for fall camp, so DT has 5 guys with playing time under their belt. That's the start of a good rotation, to keep folks fresh.

I'm not walking the koolaid route here, but it's been a while since the Buff's have had that many DT's vying for pt.

I sure hope Givens weighs in much higher than 275 at fall camp, I know it's beating a dead horse but this is his 3rd year in the program, we need him to get up to legitimate tackle weight.
