I've been really impressed with the job he has done as a 1st year DB coach. Sure, he inherited Jimmy and Jalil so he had a lot to work with. But those guys have also improved a lot since last season.

Considering that we have had no pass rush and the DBs have been relied on to make the bulk of the tackles in run support, Ash has had his hands full. Throw in the injuries. Ewing, Orms, Sandersfeld, Vigo, Perkins. He had Jimmy playing through post-concussion issues last week. He's had to play guys like J Hawk, Mahnke, and Ussery. He has had to turn Olatoye into a safety. He has even played Jered Bell out of position there. He has had to burn the redshirt of a 5'8" true freshman, Terror Smith, that no one else in D1 even offered a scholarship.

And everyone he has plugged in has made plays without us seeing major breakdowns and blown coverages for big pass plays against us.

Ash is at the top of my list of coaches I wouldn't mind seeing retained on the next staff. Especially since he's also proving to be an energetic and capable recruiter.

    Yeah that.

Terrell "the Terror" Smith must be in the running for Freshman of the year based on the Tech game. For the sake of getting T. Smith some exposure, it's a shame the Tech game wasn't televised.

Can't wait to follow #41 on Saturday. He'll have a chance to lead the team in tackling once again.

    Nice work, Terrell and Ash!

I was starting to think there was a problem with the scoreboard Saturday. It seemed like he kept being shown as the tackler on EVERY play...

    TT: 78 Snaps
    TS: 15 Tackles (21%). 8 solo. 2 Sacks. That's quite a debut.

I can't decide if that means Terrel is just that good or most of our D is incompetent (thanks to Collins).

    What's people's take on Prince?

I've been really pleased with the production of our WR's. They are not great yet but head and shoulders above last year, and not just because we got a talent bump. Route running and blocking downfield are noticable better.

Plus, Prince seemed to bring some fire to the team (at least early in the season) that the team really needed. It reminded me of EB when he was lighting up the sidelines when he was the RB coach under GB. But it seems like Prince has been quiet lately. Did something happen?

Anyway, he's got my vote for strong consideration for the next staff. Plus, I think he fits with Mac's style if Mac ends up being our next coach.

That's great that TS made tackles when he needed to, but it is a sad thing for your defense when a defensive back is the leading tackler. It means the front 7 aren't doing their job.

I like Ambrose, but it's all up to the next coach whether he's retained or not. I think Cabral is the only coach that's earned his keep, and that's only due to his past success.

Greg Brown called Hawk up, not the other way around, because he wanted to live in CO. I believe it was Brown then that found Ambrose, because he used to coach him. I'm just throwing this out there to show that Ambrose was not a Hawk hire. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me and give Hawk credit where he is due.

I don't if this is been discussed, but I've got to believe that IF Mac comes back, he retains Cabral. No?

And yes, I'd love to keep Ambrose around.

EDIT: Oops. I just found an entire thread dedicated to this topic. NM.

Smith might have had the best Buff debut ever.

Too bad for Terrell and his family that such an auspicious college debut wasn't on TV.

If a tree falls away from a television camera, does it make a sound?

Other than the Tech fans, TS will be one of the few who will want to order the DVD from Buffvision.

37 rush attempts and 38 pass attempts from TT. Pretty even. Your point is also wrong because if you are playing a pass-happy team you have a lot less plays where a tackle is required. Unless they complete 100% of their passes, in which case you have other problems. No matter how you put it, you never want a defensive back to lead the team in tackles.
