Questions for Rick George? (for Friday 1190 show)

Mods, please change name of the thread to questions for absinthe and S2S.

I'm curious what he think is on the horizon in terms of conference realignment (particularly if the Pac-12 might expand) and also whether he sees sports media (particularly the Pac-12 Network) migrating to a streaming model. How well is the Pac-12 positioned to capitalize on opportunities that shifts in those landscapes may provide?

What is the timing of the East Campus project with new academic buildings taking over the spaces currently occupied by Prentup and Potts? What is the AD plan for relocation of those fields? Is the cost of doing so included in the budget for the East Campus or is the move & development of new competition fields something the AD will have to independently fund?

South campus is so frustrating. Boulder will issue building permits, but won't issue water taps. Another instance of the city being stubborn when it comes to its primary cash cow.

16. What current rivalry is most important to Colorado athletics across all sports?
17. I noticed that CU fans don't dance the Hokie Pokie between 3rd and 4th quarter. Thoughts on adding this to the Folsom agenda?
18. What are you thoughts on the Pac and other P5 conferences playing football games on Friday nights during High School season?
19. What Pac12 stadiums and arenas do you most enjoy traveling to and why?
20. Given the large distance between Colorado and other Pac 12 schools, how much of a disadvantage is that in terms of revenue generated from fan travel?
21. While being somewhat georgraphically central to the Pac, Nevada has no Pac teams -- is LV the right location for the Pac12 tourney? what other cities have been seriously considered?
22. Coloradan or Coloradoan?
23. Since the playoffs started, there has been increased focus on all the P5 schools adopting the same rules and policies, such as academic standards, grey-shirt rules, transfer rules, 8/9 game conference schedules. What considerations are important to you and to the Univerity of Colorado when it comes to the question of individual conference priorities vs a level playing field across conferences?

This would never happen, but I would love for the university to 'leak' documents talking about moving their flagship campus out of Boulder, and watch the Boulder city council freak out.

Answer to 21 is YES, LV is the right location for the Pac12 Tourney, and no other cities should be considered at this time.

Thoughts on Pac 12 Networks and Direct TV/AT&T being unable to come to an agreement, and where that leaves the Pac 12 and Colorado in terms of national exposure and revenue competitiveness in comparison to the other P5 conferences?

How do you feel about Larry Scott's stance on Pac 12 Networks not accepting advertising dollars from the major revenue advertising stream that is Daily Fantasy Sports, and are the individual schools out of step with the conference by accepting advertising dollars from those same sources, e.g. FanDuel advertising on the video boards in Folsom during the CU-Oregon game?

Where is our baseball?

Answer to 21 is YES, LV is the right location for the Pac12 Tourney, and no other cities should be considered at this time.
21. a. why is LV the optimal choice for the Pac12 tourney? cheap flights? good meals? obviously the city has lots of alternative entertainment to offer, but after spending 10 hours in an arena and watching four college hoops games -- are gambling and shows still something that basketball fans see as a priority?
21.b. How does the Pac reconcile their position of not accepting revenue from gambling organizations like Draft Kings while hosting events in venues owned, operated and co-located with casinos?

24.
25. Last year's college promotion by the Rockies, giving equal prominence to the Buffs, CSU Rams and Nebraska Cornhuskers, triggered much wailing and gnashing of teeth on CU internet message boards. What steps are you taking to ensure that marketing arrangements with organizations like the Rockies are focused predominately on the Buffs?
26. With the city of Boulder removing bike lanes, will there be a corresponding reduction in bike racks on campus?
27. We've seen some novel fan-engagement promotions over the last year: the brick walk, signing the girder, free tix for loyal season ticket holders, ability for season ticket holders to opt-out of the RMS, etc.. What other ideas are on the horizon?
28. What are your thoughts on the Pac12 entering into an arrangement with another P5 conference for something akin to the B1G/ACC challenge in hoops? which conference would you be most interested in seeing the Pac grow a relationship with? Do you think that concept has any potential for football with the current emphasis on SoS for playoff qualification?
29. Is Cheerleading a sport? why or why not? How about Dance?
30. Is it wrong to grill bison burgers at a Buffs tailgate? What beer types are most appropriate for CU tailgating?
31. In the community of college athletic directors, who are the most respected?
32. What is your job performance appraisal process like? Who does your performance review(s)? what criteria are weighted the most heavily when evaluating an AD?

given our current football struggles in the PAC12 conference, how short of a leash do these coaches have? If we were to go win less in conference again this year, can we expect to see some coaching changes?

1. Will we ever wear Gold again? Or are we going to continue the carousel of uniforms in an attempt to solidify ourselves as the Poor Man's Oregon?

What new non-football event would he like to see occur at Folsom in 2016?

Would he ever allow a tailgate area/city set up on Farrand field that would allow people to rent designated tailgate space on the field, and allow them to set up the day/night before games while also allowing tents to remain up a few hours after games?

I was wondering when the bathrooms would be renovated at Folsom as I was pissing in the trough on a huge rusted spot where the porcelain had worn away decades ago.

Also, as I tried to get through an overcrowded, hot, and humid Balch during the multiple lightning delays, I was wondering when it would be renovated and how it can be improved for the game day experience.

Then I'd like to add:

I like the new uniforms, and I hope we continue to try different combinations, knowing that the gold/black/gold is our bread and butter.

:):D

You do know that they're not actually removing any bike lanes. Just putting car lanes back where they were (for a few blocks). The bike lanes were always there and will remain.

Do you think Mtn. Buff and Hokie head are the same person, or just related?

Have you taken tini to lunch yet?

What is your handle on AB?

Will you dismiss the TRO you have against me?

a - As someone who has been my opinion is that you need to go tot the tourney to get it, Vegas is 100% the right place for it, its also driving distance for the leagues historically best schools. Arizona mobs that place, ASU, UCLA, USC, & Utah all get there easily. the town is a party, you do have the energy to gamble and eat after.

b - I do not belive the pac-12 holds that view point i have heard there are draftkings ads on the Pac-12 nets.

I would still like to get an answer about if we can get the P12 Net to cover skiing. At the very least, cover the NCAA Championships. There's no skiing coverage outside of the Olympics anymore. Seems like that would be the kind of thing that would help with international distribution.

Seems like there is a lot of great energy and ideas all coming at once to the Buffs program. Things like the new facilities, brick program, new uniforms, beer in Folsom, the rooftop, etc are exciting to see! What's next and is there a good method for fans to submit ideas to help keep this ball rolling?

The writing is on the wall for the eventual demise of the current Big 12 Conference; how do you see that playing out from the standpoint of re-distribution of teams around the other P5 conferences?

Attn: 1190 AM guys

Please just forget about the questions and demand that RG write a novel on the CU athletic department and submit it to @hokiehead for editing.
at some point today, my goal was to come up with four questions that make it on the air.

boring hokiehead anecdote: won tix to Gov't Mule from a radio station in Raleigh (all I had to do was fill out a webpage form -- didn't even have to be caller 12 or answer a trivia question). DJ emails me details of and tells me that she's interviewing Warren Haynes the day before the show, and do I have any questions I'd like to hear? I put together a list of about 20, run it by a few friends and emailed the DJ. She asked three of my questions and thanked me in person at the show. She wasn't nearly as hot in person as her radio voice and my imagination had made her out to be.
