I had a friend when I was in high school who happened to be black. (I'd say African-american but he was born in England so I'm confused on what terminology to use.) We would joke about our cultural differences a lot but it was always in good fun.

We talked about race issues a lot. i wanted to be a sociologist at the time so i was very inquisitive. I asked him if I was allowed to sing along to rap songs that use the N-word and he said that was fine. I think shaggybevo had a whole thread on this once.

I asked him if he wished that black people had a similar word to the N-word to call us in bad situations. He said "oh we have a word alright." I said cracker and whitey don't count but he just smirked and laughed.

A bit later we were drunk at a party and he asked me if I wanted to know his word for white people that carries a similar effect to the N-word. I of course said yes. He then told me that the only word that can come close (he still doesn't think it is equal just close) is racist. He told me there is no way to defend against a black person calling someone racist. And any attempt will just make you sound racist.

Obviously this is just one guy's opinion but from my life experiences he was dead on.

I'm not saying it is the same thing but calling someone racist can have some devastating effects.

sociology? did you have professor Adler at CU? Did you do that project where you have to do something awkward in public and write about people's reaction?

I went to Metro. :sad1: That major only lasted until my first semester when i started hating myself for being a white dude. My first professor was this lady who said "if you don't hate all white men by the time this class ends, I haven't done my job. Good times.

Of course Embree was fired because Bohn is a racist. It had nothing to do with making zero progress in year 2 and losing games by the widest margins in Colorado history. It had nothing to do with being the worst BCS team in the good old USA. It couldn't have anything to do with Embree not being qualified to be head coach from the get go and Bohn buckling to pressure from Jesus Freak McCartney to hire an ex Buff.

    Naw, we are all racists.

    What a bunch of hogwash.

Just a fair warning coming from a non-mod. We try to keep politics out of the football forum.

This is one of the most disturbing things I've ever read. And even more disturbing is that it's accepted in "higher ed". Our country is FUBAR and academia is leading the way.

For the most part, the only worthwhile majors are hard sciences, engineering and business. The rest of what higher ed does is generally counterproductive.

I remember this class. "Deviance in Society" I think. What did you end up doing?
