Thats not honest, thats bull****, bullwinkle.
I guess we'll see soon, but I'm not confident that CU basketball is headed in the right direction. Boyle had a tremendous start, but has taken a step back since Abatemarco left. Recruiting is the key and we've not seen success in years. Now we are getting players that other schools don't even offer.
The Abatemarco point does seem to be a good one. Tough to argue that recruiting has been as good since his departure. However, here is to hoping this Jessup does lots of Left Hand Keg curls, bulks up and shows that he belongs. (Hey I can't route against a fellow Trojan moving on and becoming a fellow Buff).
And here I am hoping that Tad is right and Jessup proves some of you very very wrong. Of course he may do that whether or not he comes to Colorado.
I agree that recruiting is key, but c'mon, we've never had a Top 20 recruiting class. Other than the recruiting class of 2012 that featured Scott and XJ, we have recruited under the radar players. In that time, Boyle has kept the team competitive and in the upper echelon of the Pac-12 for the most part. Recruiting Spencer, Booker and Roberson we're great recruiting finds for Boyle and his staff. Boyle will find more gems guaranteed (ahem, watch out for Cameron Satterwhite).
Recruiting insight for everyone, listen up:
Of course, the right direction would be for CU to land some blue chippers. Unfortunately, at this point in time, blue chippers don't want to play in Boulder. So with that said, the right direction for CU is to continue to look for under the radar talent (especially in TX and CA), add a transfer here and there, then bring in some international stars that want to play college ball in the U.S. This is currently the blueprint for Colorado basketball..., Until we can land some bigger fish. Once we start landing some Top 50 talent, CU will start looking more like the Gonzaga model, in the recruiting sense, I'm hoping, praying...
And everyone, please stop giving Abatemarco so much freaking credit!!! His most noteworthy recruits for Colorado were Donnie Boyce, Alec Burks and Andre Roberson. It's not like he was here bringing in 4 and 5 star blue chips from the East Coast. If the definition of a great recruiter is to bring in a 2-3 star player with potential and then let the coaching staff develop the player, then I guess Coach A was awesome.
To the bolded- you are dumb argument.
I'd be ok if we hired an assistant who brought in two 1st round picks and a 2nd rounder, regardless of their star ratings.
You take my breath away, sir, like no one has since BB2.
No doubt. I just don't buy that recruiting has taken a step back because Coach A left. I think recruiting has been just about the same, with the exception of 2012. Recruiting is just hit or miss for the most part, regardless of stars. From that perspective, I think CU recruiting is right where it's always been. Tad, who is directly responsible for landing Spencer and XJ, knows talent. Coach Pri knows talent. The 2013 and 2014 teams fielded probably the most athletic and talented teams we've seen in Boulder. It just didn't mesh on the court.
I think another post we can spin off this thread that would be interesting is, "Was the 2012 recruiting class overrated? Has Scott, XJ, Gordon, Talton delivered based on expectations?".
I don't think we are using this legalized marijuana angle enough in recruiting
Wow my spelling left something to be desired!
Burks was here before Coach A I am pretty sure.
