Recruiting News - Olympic Sports

Good additions by Sanchez. I'm far from a soccer expert, but the general consensus (and eyeball test) was that this team really needed to shore up some issues controlling the middle of the field.

Awesome news!

It does look like Ms. Scheid has been playing a defender on her German Bundesliga team, so assume she may also play that position for the Buffs. (But, she did play as a midfielder her one year of college ball back in the 2013 season, so assume could end up playing in either (or both) position(s).?.)

Note- Since they both have U.S. university experience, I also added this tweet, along some more info, to the transfer thread (http://www.allbuffs.com/threads/oly...-other-roster-news.105930/page-2#post-1988262 ) .

Prepvolleyball website (the gang that does the Senior Aces, etc.) is releasing their rankings of 2016 recruiting classes. The rankings are based on the panel (100+college coaches) opinion of the impact of the class on the team over the 4 - 5 years of their time in college. Also, it only includes players coming from high school. No JUCO players or transfers are included. Can't provide a link since this is a subscription site.
They are ranking a total of 98 classes. They are releasing the 43 "honorable mention" today along with the 25 "just missed" or "highest honorable mention". Tomorrow they will release classes ranked 21-30; then on Wednesday 11-20 and the top 10 on Thursday. The 43 honorable mention are listed alphabetically as are the 25 "just missed".
In the group of 43 honorable mention we find the following PAC-12 schools : ASU, Cal, and Utah.
In the group of 25 "just missed" we find COLORADO. Pretty good spot, imo. With the player likely to have the biggest impact, Purdue transfer OH Alexa Smith, not included, that says we have a pretty good recruiting class. Congratulations to the former staff for the recruiting and to the current staff for keeping them all committed to the Buffs.
I know we will see several more PAC-12 classes in the top 30. I'll post them here as they come out.

A couple track and field related items.

1) Per the below tweet, looks like the Buffs have a new woman's hurdler/ jumper commit coming in next season- Eriana Henderson from Westfield HS in Houston TX. Welcome and congrats to her!

Her high school times and marks- http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=5080714#/L0
(Looks like the 300M hurdles has been her best event, as she finished 5th in the state championships in that event this year after winning her district. Since college runs the 400M hurdles, hard to translate her time there, although a good finish like that in "the" sprinter state of Texas sounds impressive to me. in addition, it looks like her 100M hurdle time would have been the #1 time at CU this season, and her bests this year would have made her #2 performer for the Buffs in both the long and triple jumps.)

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

2) Also, wanted to mention Flotrack went in and (based on a numerical formula based on their times this year) came up with a Top 25 list of individual high school senior middle distance and distance runners by gender, and the Buffs were well represented with 5 incoming freshmen listed (see http://www.flotrack.org/article/41715-flotrack-s-high-school-class-of-2016-top-25-rankings for details). There are 3 young men (all from California) who've signed to be Buffs on the list, namely #4 ranked Eduardo Herrera, #10 Connor Dunne and #13 Phillip Rocha. On the young women's side, Sage Hurta (From New York state) is ranked #14 and (Texas's) Madie Boreman is #17.

As I probably already noted in earlier parts of this thread, 4 of the 5 were also nationally ranked cross country runners per DyeStat after this past season (boys- http://dyestatxcrankings.runnerspace.com/gprofile.php?mgroup_id=46052&do=news&news_id=386901, girls- http://dyestatxcrankings.runnerspace.com/gprofile.php?mgroup_id=46052&do=news&news_id=386868), with Mr. Rocha ending up the #2 ranked cross country runner in the country and Mr. Herrara #8, while Ms. Hurta ended up #27 and Ms. Boreman #50 on the young women's side.

Just to reinforce how tough the PAC-12 is for volleyball ..... here's the rest of the recruiting class rankings for PAC-12 schools in the top 30:
Washington #27
Arizona #10
UCLA #5
USC #4
Oregon #2
Stanford #1
That is just sick! Four of the top 5 recruiting classes for 2016 are PAC-12.

The Pac is the toughest volleyball conference in the country. 4 of 5 top recruiting classes are in the Pac!

Can't find a name yet, but looks like soccer has its 1st 2019 verbal commitment!

Congrats and best wishes for the remainder of her high school years to defender Alyssa Duke, who is I assume (based on a tweet she just made) the 2019 commit referred to in the above tweet. Ms. Duke is at Upland High School in the town of the same name in California, and also plays club soccer at West Coast FC.

A few more links-
Her topdrawersoccer page- http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-player-profile/alyssa-duke/pid-97660
Her Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) page (Looks like the Buffs continue to recruit some tall players, as Ms. Duke is already listed as 5'11".)- http://www.eliteclubsnationalleague.com/teams/78817208/29648035-78817269/60464809.html

Per the below instagram, sounds like Buff track and cross country has once again gone to California to get a male middle distance/ distance runner (4th incoming frosh I know about from the Golden State). Congrats and welcome to Salvador Capetillo from Baldwin Park High School on committing to join the Buffs!

His high school results-
Cross Country- http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Athlete.aspx?AID=5268164 (He came in 6th this past season in the State Championship D III race.)
Track- http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=5268164#/L0 (He qualified for for State in the 3200M held this past Saturday, and has been showing a consistent improvement in his PR at that distance throughout his high school years.)

Another VB recruit, per Rich Kern.
In the incoming class of 2017, Anyse Smith, 5'11" OH from Amarillo TX. Tascosa high school and Jet VB club. If Aztec doesn't beat me to it, I'll see if I can find more info later.

Good to see it confirmed. (One of my Twitter searches found her commitment tweets yesterday, but I wanted to wait for more confirmation.)

Welcome to Ms. Smith!

Compared to some others, couldn't find too much about her-
1) Hudl highlight videos - http://www.hudl.com/athlete/6371288/anyse-smith (Note- in both Hudl and Maxpreps, she's listed as a middle blocker, but the highlights seem to show her playing both outside and in the middle.)
2) Maxpreps page (Very limited value for us right now, as her team doesn' post stats.) - http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/anyse-smith/JyrZD1ZVEeW-8KA2nzwbTA/default.htm
3) Was the only non-Amarillo HS volleyball player awarded district honors this past season, as she was named "Outstanding Hitter" (Per http://amarillo.com/sports/high-school-sports/2015-11-25/ahs-dominates-honors-list-2-6a).

Looks like volleyball has picked up a new commitment for the 2017 season. Can't tell who yet from Rich Kern or other means, but assume (based on experiences with past commits) it will probably become clear soon.

Rich Kern has now listed Brynna DeLuzio (or Deluzio, I'm seeing it both ways) of The 1st Academy in Orlando FL and the Top Select Volleyball Club as the new 2017 Buff. Welcome and congrats to her!

A few notes-
1) She's "only" listed at 5'9", but per Maxpreps she lead her high school team in kills at 4.2 per set, while also looking to be a setter in a 6-2, as she and a teammate had almost the same number of sets over the 2015 season (~300). On her club website (http://www.topselectvolleyball.com/roster_players/10049355?subseason=261618 ) she's listed as a setter, so that would be my GUESS (???) of where she might be slotted as a Buff, although she looks to bring a LOT of versatility with very good high school stats in pretty much EVERY statistical area (granted having no idea of the level of competition). Maxpreps has her listed as a setter/ outside hitter/ opposite (rightside) hitter for her high school team. (She seems to be listed as both a junior and senior different places, but since both Coach Mahoney's tweet and Ms. Deluzio's twitter profile list her as a 2017, I assume THAT'S the correct year for her.)

2) Highlight film (mainly highlighting her setting skills or her club team)- .

3) She was named to the "Top 10" All Orlando Area team this past high school season (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/spor...-volleyball-payton-caffrey-20151223-post.html).

4) Always cool to me when a young man or woman with Buff family ties also chooses to go to Colorado. In Ms. Deluzio's case, it sounds like per an older ESPN article I found (http://espn.go.com/ncw/columns/story?id=4903222 , mainly a VERY inspiring story of the Delucio's ending up with 11 children after taking in 5 kids for at least awhile from a family which included a friend of one of their older daughters), it sounds like Ms. Delucio is one of the daughters of Don and Sheri Deluzio. Per the article,
"...
Don Deluzio believed in coach Bill McCartney's vision to make Colorado into a national power in football. He was a linebacker for the Buffaloes and attended Colorado from 1984 to '88.

"There's something about feeling like you're changing the course of a program," Don said. "Although I would have loved to have played on the [1990] national championship team, I felt like those of us who came before that were a part of it.
..."
"

Among MANY other interesting aspects, the article also says he met his wife Sheri "at Colorado", so assume she probably was (???) also a CU student.

Rich Kern now has Brynna listed as "L" ... so it looks like CU is recruiting her as a libero.

Good to know. I'll include that position in her line on the commit list in the original post. Glad to see we've pickup up a few defensive specialist (DS) / libero types in these classes. Through injury and attrition, it's definitely seemed to me an issue occasionally the last couple years of either having to rush younger players onto the court or having to use other players as DS's. (If Cierra Simpson hadn't been an "iron man" the last couple years, don't know what the team would have done in her absence. Just went back and looked at team stats, and she played in EVERY set the last 2 seasons, and didn't play in only 3 sets her freshman season, 2 of which were in the Buff's 1st match where, if I remember correctly, she only came in game 3 and earned the libero job at that point.)

I'll probably list every position for Ms. Deluzio except Middle as potential spots for her in the OP, as her apparent versatility (just again perusing her stats) could make her an option or safety-net at many positions once she arrives in Boulder in 2017 and the coaches see what her most collegiate-level skills are.

Per the laxpower.com recruit database (again, http://www.laxpower.com/recruits/recruits.php?db=wrecruits2017&action=view for 2017 commiits), looks like lacrosse has picked up a new 2017 verbal commitment in defender Aine Williams, who attends Notre Dame Academy in Hingham, Massachusetts. Welcome and congrats to her!

Couldn't find much info on her:

1) Her team's Maxprep page (http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/notre-dame-academy-cougars-(hingham,ma)/girls-lacrosse/home.htm ) doesn't give much info (no roster or stats), but Maxpreps does show them as the #2 team in Massachusetts and #30 nationally this past season.

2) A bio page at a Under Armour All-American Lacrosse website- https://events.r2it.com/lacrosse/UnderArmour/Roster/Division/Underclass# . (They also show her as a Buff commit! They also show her with 8 goals and 24 assists, so doesn't sound like she's only used on defense.)

Nothing in Richkern or any other source I can find yet as to who it might be, but looks like volleyball has picked up a (relatively) last minute 2016 commitment or transfer.

Probable confirmation from CU-

As noted in the tweet, Kyla Ferry, a forward with the SC Del Sol Soccer Club and Xavier College Prep, both in Phoenix, will be a 2019 Buff. Welcome and congrats to her!

Additional info on her-
Her topdrawersoccer.com player page- http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club-player-profile/kyla-ferry/pid-69699/tab-articles (They have her currently rated with 3 stars (out of 5). Based on the headlines, looks like she has many articles (most premium) indicating LOTS of play in the ECNL (Elite Clubs National League), which I believe is where the top youth players participate in.)

Her PARTIAL high school stats per maxpreps (Note- they only seem to have stats for some of the matches,as no player is showing stats for more than 9 matches, but Maxpreps shows the team overall being 16-5.) - http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/kyla-ferry/SdYH-JADEeW-8KA2nzwbTA/gendersport/girls-soccer-stats.htm
(Impressive to me that, based on the stats available for a limited amount of her team's matches, she must have earned quite a bit of playing time, as she averaged ~1.8 points per game, even as a freshman. And, her team was Maxpreps #3 in Arizona, so look to be pretty good.)

_____________________________________________________________________________

EDIT- Just to add a little more on Kyla Ferry, found her team's ECNL page here- http://www.eliteclubsnationalleague.com/teams/78817208/29918395-78817269/TEAM.html , and it looks like she is THE dominant scorer there for her club, easily leading in goals (16), assists (16) and yellow cards (4) in 26 matches. (Amazing that her team has scored 34 goals as I write this, and via goal or assist Ms. Ferry helped account for 32 of those.) Also, looks like her club was very competitive overall in national competitions, and ended up in the "Champions League" tournament, which looked to be top level for her age group.

Looks like soccer is keeping busy and is heavy into the 2019 class recruiting cycle, and have landed another verbal commitment.

(Don't know who it is yet, but assume it will probably become clear soon (although occasionally international players are hard to identify if this happens to be one of those).)

Thanks for staying on top of all the recruiting Aztec. Maybe the above-mentioned #CUin19 soccer commit is an international player like you suggest, as you seem to usually be able to track down a name almost right away from social media if it's a U.S. player. (How the heck do you do that?) I know there's still that one #CUin18 commit from February that we don't know about yet. Any time there is an international player coming to the Buffs it seems it's usually a Canadian or Aussie. They are also always really good players. I guess all the CU soccer recruits are really good players no matter where they're from! Go Buffs!

It's pretty common that CU does their general #CUin1X tweet a little before I can determine who the player is, even a U.S. player, so I would not assume the new commit is an international player yet. My main database sources for soccer (http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/coll...women/colorado/clgid-205/tab-commitments#tabs and https(colon)//docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IbB3V_l4dzMu1PnuLIjX9bJyT9r9zn2voE_qefyFYko/htmlembed?gid=5&widget=false ) do NOT update that often (the later just seems to do so every week or so), so it may be a bit before they let us know who the new recruit is if they learn about it 1st. In addition, the last time or two I found out the new recruit myself via twitter, they, or their club, often tweeted their commitment a little after the general CU tweet.

Interestingly, Asst. Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Morgan just tweeted the below. What I don't know is - is he indicating yet ANOTHER new 2019 commit, OR is he just the "chorus" for the same commit that CU soccer tweeted about last night? I guess we shall see.

My guess is that's the same #CUin19 commit unless there's a new second one noted on the main CU Soccer twitter. Hard to believe that this year's soccer season starts in only two weeks. In the meantime, Go USA at the Olympics! Two native Colorado players on the USWNT...Mallory Pugh and Lyndsay Horan.

I'd forgotten to mention earlier that, for the men's track and cross country teams, I THINK the Buffs have another incoming runner for this season (2016/17) , namely Jared Borowsky from Lincolnshire IIllinois' Stevenson HS. I originally found this commit (which looks to have been made months ago) pretty indirectly, as his twitter handle was included in a tweet by another known commit, and Mr. Borowsky's twitter profile does say he's coming to Boulder. I then found this article (http://www.chicagotribune.com/subur...ack-state-roundup-tl-0602-20160529-story.html) that seems to confirm he's CU-bound.

A belated welcome and congrats to him!

His track record- http://www.athletic.net/TrackAndField/Athlete.aspx?AID=4652121#/L0 (As the above-referenced article also infers, looks like his state championship in the 3200 meters this past season is the BIG highlight.)

His cross country record- http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/Athlete.aspx?AID=4652121#/L0

A couple things on the recruiting front-

1) Sorry in advance if this ends up not being true (***), but looks like Buff lacrosse may have picked up a 2018/ 19 verbal commit in Attacker Charlie Rudy from Novato High School, Novato, California. (***The only thing so far that alerted me into her possible commitment was an instagram congrats from a friend, and a (private) instagram page with her name on it with the short profile on it saying "cu lax '22".)

Assuming the commitment is legit, congrats and welcome to her, and best wishes to her the remainder of her HS years!

She looks like a pretty impressive recruit. Per http://www.marinij.com/article/NO/20160526/SPORTS/160529834 , she was already named her league's MVP this past season as a sophomore, and led her team in scoring with a very impressive 119 goals and 35 assists in only 24 games, or 6.5 points per game. Per http://www.laxmagazine.com/high_sch...ine_high_school_girls_top_25_regional_top_10s, Laxmagazine ended up ranking her team, which went 24-0, the #24 team in the country, and #1 team in the western region.

Maxpreps stats- http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/cha...AmVebEWg/gendersport/girls-lacrosse-stats.htm (On her team's Maxpreps homepage, they had Novato HS #10 in the country and #2 in California.)

(EDIT- Wanted to mention it's a VERY MINOR bummer for obsessed Buff fans like myself that lacrosse is the one team sport that doesn't do the "CUin20XX" tweets when they receive a verbal commitment. Of course, the track and ski teams never let us know either, so the no notification practice is in line with those sports.)
_________________________________________________________________________________________________

2) I'm not sure of its accuracy, so probably won't add her to the OP list until we see something official, but also wanted to mention that topdrawersoccer.com has listed a last minute addition to Buff soccer for 2016, namely forward Lindzy Konrad from Newport Harbor HS in Newport Beach, California, and the Slammers FC (Football Club).

I'm kind of surprised they'd add someone this late, I don't see any new faces in the pictures of the team I've seen, and she isn't listed on the roster, so I'm wondering if POSSIBLY topdrawersoccer made an error?.? With the 1st match ~1-1/2 weeks away , I assume if she IS joining the team we'll hear very soon, so I'll wait until we hear something official before doing any more research on her soccer background or adding her to the list of players in the OP.
(Of course, if someone else knows she IS or isn't joining the team, let us know. I did a quick student search at http://www.colorado.edu/gsearch/students/konrad , and she does look to be an incoming CU student, so in any case best wishes to her in Boulder.)

Per the Laxpower.com database, Buff lacrosse picked up a 2017 class commitment in 5'11" attack/ midfield player Zoe Lawless from York High School in Elmhurst IL and the Denver Summit/ Summit Elite Lacrosse Club. Welcome and congrats to her!

With a little Google search, here's her club's tweet about the commitment-

A few videos of her playing- http://www.hudl.com/athlete/5244178/zoe-lawless

2016 high school stats- http://www.ihswla.org/ihswla/stats.htn#fieldG (Looks like she was 4th in goals and 3rd in points in Illinois this past season.)
