I know the search is early and there are probably some other awesome candidates who might be interested but his CV and the way people talk about this guy makes me think he would be a slam dunk hire. It's a bonus that he is apparently passionate about college athletics and has experience working at CU in the past.

I think Ringo lurks on fan message boards since we get better scoop and give better insight than the media cares to on all things CU athletics and uses that when he has writer's block during slow news periods. I would hope we have a real shot, but with a columnist's slant a story like this is probably just as hypothetical as Woody Paige's "Hey you guys ever heard of Bob Stitt?" from last fall.

    I like polls.

What kind of coin is he used to making, and what can we offer him? I have a hard time believing he'd be lured to Boulder by the money.

Just spitballing here... but we should hire Bill Ritter. I mean, he got his law degree at CU and he works at CSU now in some official capacity. Wouldn't being Colorado's AD be more exciting than directing the Center for the New Energy Economy at Colorado State. I mean, he doesn't have experience with college athletics, but he's a former governor. Don't tell me he doesn't know how to raise money.

Seriously though, with all the highly successful people that CU has graduated, it's hard to imaging we'd have trouble finding a master fundraiser who would leave the new Mac alone in rebuilding the football program.

This quote from the Ringo article made me cringe a bit, given our recent past:
He appears very qualified, but I'd like to hear about some other candidates. I just don't like the same faction that got Embree in, now rising up to get their replacement for Bohn, if that's the case. I don't like their judgement, not just because of Embree, but there's an unhealthy attachment to the glory years there that I think clouds logic.

You can assume that if his name is out now, then he won't be the hire

Looks solid to me. Experience at CU and in numerous different sports. He seems to rise to the top wherever he goes

He would be a solid hire but let's see what the committee can do. No hurry at this point. As long as this get's done by fall we wiill move foreward. We need to ensure we have the right guy this time and hopefully Benson is on board because i could really care what te little man has to say at this point.

There's some aspects to like in there, albeit not the "bleed Black and Gold" garble. However, I'd really like it to be an AD, or associate AD from a BCS conference school. There has been a massive facility boom around universities over the last decade. Find someone who fits the aforementioned experience, played a role in facility expansion, and hire him.

Not convinced he'd be the best guy for the job, but I think the search committee will have a hard time finding someone else who is a better fit within the apparent search criteria.

Not convinced he's better than the guy we just fired.

Backed by Coach Mac... Don't know if I want. He really damaged us after the firing of Embree. I really don't want to give him an in to the program right now.

I gotta disagree. We ought to embrace coach Mac. Does anyone think he was wrong for criticising the program? I think we ought to leave that in the past and move forward.

Gotta disagree here, Bohn didn't have anything close to the resume George has. I believe I read a article that said George set Rangers franchise records in fundraising and attendance, or along those lines.

It was how he did it. He called every white person at CU racist and tore CU down publicly on the radio because his pick didn't work out and he didn't want to admit it.

I agree that Mac muddied the water with his irrational and obnoxious behavior following Embree's firing. He threw CU under the bus in anjust way. It is fine for an important person in the history of a program to be constructively critical of the current program in an attempt to draw attention to problem areas and try to rally the base to restore the program.

But Mac went so far beyond the bounds of reason by slandering the university and Bohn in a way that was unfair and hurtful to the community. Because of that behavior he fractured the base. So yes, it is hard to get behind someone he is backing again b/c if it doesn't go well or the way he thinks it should who knows what he will do next.

Regardless of that, I don't think the University should consider Mac's opinion in making the decision. Mac is not on the search committee (thank god!) and given his recent behavior, his opinion should not be considered. So if George is deemed the best fit, CU would be stupid to not hire him just b/c Mac also thinks George should be hired.

Go take a look at what Bohn did at Idaho and SDSU in fundraising before he came here and get back to me.

It may have just been time for him to go, but I think they're going to be hard pressed to find somebody better.

The MLB and PGA Tour are just a bit bigger than Idaho and SDSU, it's going to take more to rise to the top at the first two than the last.

I would imagine that Rick George might be a little to strong willed for DiStiffs taste.

Bohn came from SDSU/Idaho when they were football doormats. Coincidence?

I must have missed the part on his résumé that detailed the other D-1 schools where Rick George has been the athletic director.

Would he be a good choice? I don't know. He might be. I still don't see what makes him better at running a major athletic department than Mike Bohn was. I see desperation in Phil's eyes.

    Associate Athletic Director for Vanderbilt
    Assistant AD at CU
    Football recruiting coordinator at Illinois

    Not quite the head AD.

    Football experience. Check
    Fundraising experience. Check
    Business experience. Check

Based on his bio this would be a home-run imo

Also I'm sure George has rubbed elbows with George Solich, based on their ties to the PGA

None of these things immediately jump out at me as being better than Mike Bohn was. Admittedly, I'm of the opinion that there are a very small number of people who would be. The AD at Alabama isn't in the conversation at the moment.

Bohn wasn't good at football or fundraising. Sure he had record numbers in donations, but we needed $50mil and he wasn't even close. He was good at the business side by keeping us in the black. However, due to his inept football hires we had to continually buy out coaches and owe millions now
