So was a bit bored today and watched some of the CNBC/MSNBC channels and I always get a kick out of some of these downright ridiculous sports. Some sports like Curling in the winter games are one of my favorite things to watch, but today Air Rifle competitions (yes, Air, no bullets, Air) had to be one of the stupidest things I have ever seen.

Additionally, caught a little bit of Men's Field Hockey, and the announcers said it was the 2nd most popular men's sport in the world after soccer. If that is true, the rest of the world is so incredibly lame when it comes to what they think are great sports.

I love watching some of the obscure stuff like whitewater canoe and kayak, rowing and even some of the shooting. Hell, I killed half an hour or so Saturday watching a fencing final... And curling is awesome when it comes to the winter games.

On the downside are rhythmic gymnastics and synchronized swimming. Lamest "sports" ever invented....

Rowing is brutally painful to watch. Mrs. HouBuff had us watching one of the Equestrian events on Sunday. I thought it would be racing or jumping. Nope. The lady was simplying riding the horse back and forth trying to get it to do precise steps.

In terms of events that are fun to watch, I like volleyball, both beach and regular.

Saw handball for the first time this weekend. Where's the water? This is water polo in the desert. Cool game though.

I find rowing exceedingly boring. Hopefully it will be over soon because for some reason they sure show a lot of it. I caught some of that event where they ride around horses and try to get them to step in particular ways and it was another ridiculous one. Volleyball both beach and regular is also not particularly fun game to watch, but the women's uniforms make up for it.

As far as obscure sports, I love watching water polo and I caught some women's team handball that was great. I had no idea how physical handball was. It's fast and exciting. I think the USA is horrible at it though so I doubt we see much of it.

They had part 2 of the equestrian competition today (guess there are 3 part events or something...I won't try to pretend that I know anything about it)....but it was awesome, they had these horses running through a lengthy course for 10 minutes jumping over obscure stuff, running through water, jumping down hills. Saw a couple horses fall over too which was quite dramatic

Rowing: Great for a nap, so

My guilty pleasure for the winter games is Curling. Mostly because I think I could get a group of AllBuffers together and we could win gold if we committed to daily drunken curling for a year.

Hate: Synchronized diving. Why? Actually, I hate synchronized anything.

That's the equestrian event I enjoy. Show jumping in a ring I can tolerate. Equine ballroom dancing is one that I'll leave for Sacky to get excited over...

That's the equestrian equivalent of miniature golf.

Speaking of which, mini golf would make a great olympic sport. How awesome would it be to hear a golf announcer trying to take it seriously and create drama as Tiger had a tricky carom shot to get over the troll bridge and through the clown's mouth?

Gymnastics, I hate judged sports in general and I can only shake my head when I see some of the girls competing there. My feet and joints also hurt from watching it alone.

Hate: Balance beam - Women's gymnastics & platform diving.

The fear of potentially watching a severe neck and head injury is a put off.

The judged sports are suspect. The worst are rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, and synchronized swimming. Even boxing and gymnastics in all flavors have the potential for shenanigans. And the announcers are hypercritcal dooshbags. "Ooooh. That landing is going to be a costly deduction."

    Love:
Marathon, road cycling and mountain biking. The host city gets is a secondary star. It's great to see the boulevards and landmarks behind athletes who work damn hard for their medals.

    The ugly:
Water polo. Certainly the head gear can be improved upon. Lots of splashing by people in ugly hats.

    The beautiful:
Women's T&F plus both flavors of volleyball provide serious eye candy. The heptathletes are a personal favorite for best bodies.

    The quirky:
The lower level weightlifting competitions are a hoot because those little people are such freaks, but in a good way.

Racewalking is the single stupidest event ever. "Sure you could go faster if you ran, but I want to see how fast you can walk!" It's like having a freestyle swimming race where you can only use one arm. What's the point?

The one thing I don't get about Table Tennis being an Olympic sport is then why isn't Darts or Pool or Shuffleboard or Air Hockey or any other Basement Game

The Bar/Basement Game Olympics would be much more epic

eh, i thought it was on a trial basis. no medal awarded. i know they are building a course in rio for golf but if memory serves, it wont be an official sport in rio. it will be a on a trial status.

that may have changed. i am just going on what i read last. it will still be nice to have it.

I hate dressage. It's a political, rich person's sport. Nothing against rich people. I wish I was one. But I guarantee some kid from West Texas ain't gettin' a shot at the Olympic dressage team. I'm partial to distanc running myself. Can't ****ing wait for track and field.

Watched some of this the other day - can't understand for the life of me why we suck so bad at it - we have the best whitewater in the world, hence the best practice "facilities" (unlike the CU football team - **** you Benson and phil - ****HEADS!)

    1) Rowing is great to watch with Ms. Rack - she was a founding member of the the CU club crew team. Kind of like having my own color commentary in the room, makes the sport much more fascinating.

    2) Otherwise known as dressage which DBT bitches about later. Get off my lawn!

    3) Nice butts to be seen there (women)

Already said my peace about rowing.

Love water polo - like hockey in the water. Unfortunately only get to see it when I'm getting ready for work in the morning.

    NBC COVERAGE SUCKS!

    winner, winner, chicken dinner
Sara who? Your sig pic is totally distracting. Sandwich, nap....

    1) With you on judged sports - anything that bows to a "subjective" eye isn't a sport.

    2) You need to google Netherlands women's field hockey. Unbelievable.

GET OFF MY LAWN YOU LITTLE WHIPPERSNAPPER!

One equestrian event I enjoy is the cross country jumping. I think it is one of three disciplines in "Eventing." People can actually get hurt in cross country jumping. Serves the rich ****ers right!
