The author raises some interesting points, though I think he goes overboard on his assertions of the treatment of Winston vs other athletes who got in trouble (particularly given the fact that he does not disclose that he is an FSU grad).

It is interesting that the chatter asserting SEC bias has risen to the point that ESPN has had to start addressing it. The points on the hype impact on how schools get treated in the polls as a result of wins and losses for the SEC vs say the P12 is hard to dispute.

With ESPN owning the SEC network it only make business sense for them to promote their assets. Sucks but it is the way it is.

Did Rolling Stone get interested in the Pac 12 when Washington and Colorado legalized pot?

It is just a matter of fact that ESPN will promote the SEC it is in the company's interest as well as every employee (except Ted Miller, maybe?) to promote their own brand.

I was listening to Dan Patrick speaking frankly about ESPN being in bed with the SEC and then I switched over to ESPN radio and some guy was going on a monologue about how the playoff should absolutely have at least two teams in the playoff and that the number one and two teams in not just the conference, but each division has an argument to be selected over the top Pac-12, Big 12 and B1G conferences. So ridiculous, and pretty funny timing.

Best thing that could happen would be to have 2 SEC schools on opposite sides of the bracket and have them both lose, ensuring a non-SEC final. If the SEC fails to send 1 of its top teams to the championship game after having 2 in, the mystique of the SEC will be broken. Better yet would be for them to not only lose, but to lose badly, i.e. OU>Bama kind of loss.

My favorite part of the article, and what I hear repeated in some way or another by ESPN, and others--SEC losses aren't really losses:

So in SEC/ESPN eyes, is Kansas State still undefeated also?

No way. If you play SEC and lose, you were not worthy. If you are SEC and lose to SEC, you were worthy, but unlucky enough to play other SEC. More like a draw than a loss.

This. People get tired of the hype and they stop watching. Eventually ESPN is left only with SEC fans watching in some kind of sick circle jerk.

I haven't watched sports center in years. ESPN doesn't make me smarter so why tune in?
