I realize that the vast majority of the board is against this and wants to bank for 2013.

However, what if it's a player that Boyle and staff evaluate as an immediate difference-maker with NBA upside (like Dre was during the spring signing period)?

Do we pass on a guy like that just so we can look toward better class balance in the future?

I say we keep scollie for next year. We are in contention for about 3 LEGIT PG/SG's which we need desperately. We need the fire power next year.

If we are talking about another Dre-like signing, then I say you take him. Obviously the evaluation of these kids can be somewhat of a crap shoot, but if the staff feels very strongly about the kid then I say you go for it.

While class balance is ideal, we should consider striking while the iron is hot. If we can continue our ascension up the PAC 12 ladder, it will only make it easier to start balancing classes in the future.

i've said this before but if a game changing type talent wants to come to CU, we are in no position to reject them if, of course, we have the room. If this player comes in and the team is highly successful (2-3 tourney wins), then players will decide to leave early and take their chances at the NBA and schollies will open up. i understand the counter argument of building it up "the right way" and building class balance but for me, the right way is the one that wins us games. Lets not forget that Boyle could also decide to "retire" some players for various reasons.

I'd say elite players only. The five current signees basically fill a full lineup, 1-5, so anyone else would need to be a clearly superior prospect or bring something unique to the table, IMO. So far, the names being mentioned don't match that description.

no...absolutely not. We are in on some good players with limited schollies this next cycle. All elite talent is pretty much gone by now, and for CU, we'd be looking for diamonds in the rough.

Andre blossomed when he got here...but he was still a project in HS. It just ended up that he worked out. A LOT of kids like him don't.

Tad's coach, so I'm not going to go crazy obviously if he signs someone. But I personally wouldn't understand why...

So we're basically asking if we wanted to sign an elite player to this class or save the scholie and sign an elite player in 2013? I'll take my elite players as early as I can thanks.

If we're talking about signing a good player or saving the scholie for an elite player in 2013, then we wait.

Class balance, while more important in BBall maybe, still isn't important enough for us to say no to gamechangers.

Given that Boyle is still offering 2012 prospects that are or were a bit under the radar... He doesn't care, he wants to stack the team full of contributors NOW and worry about class balance down the line.

yes...very true. He is the coach, and doing a damn fine job of it.

but as a couch coach (which we all are I guess...and that's what makes us sports fans), I must respectfully disagree.

Plus, as someone smarter than I has pointed out, we're not going to have the minutes for all of the frosh next year so odds are some will redshirt -- creating class balance.

Freshmen big men take time. I really hope everyone lets Josh develop. He's going to be an amazing player for us, it just may not be his frosh year.

I dunno man. Having two big men - one with some experience would be good.

    ^^This^^

Angelo Chol from Arizona is a good example. He had a nice game against us last night. He was active. He made a difference. He gave us trouble. His final stats: 8 points, 2 blocks, 1 rebound.

Chol was a 4* prospect on all services as a PF/C out of high school last year with a Top 100 national ranking in the 60-75 range.

For the season, he's averaging 2.6 points and 2.3 rebounds.

I love Josh Scott and think he will be a great player, but let's not over-hype what we expect out of his freshman year.

I'm not expecting big things from him next year but I expect he'll give us a inside presence that we don't have right now.

Somebody who knows more can correct me if I'm wrong, but are there any un-signed players out there that would be considered game-changers? I would expect they'd have all signed by this time. My gut reaction is to bank that scholly, because next year we're going to be killing it, and are set for an absolute monster season in 2013-2014.

Not many. But, for example, I think like 4 of the 20 McDonald's All-Americans are unsigned still. Dre was also a late signee. There are definitely great players available in the spring, but you can't make a living by relying on finding guys late.

Edit: 5 of 24 are unsigned

What remaining unsigned players are we looking at?

To add on to this, I think the only top 150 player CU was looking at is Zena Endosomwan, and I'm not sure if there's any mutual interest at all.

The other top players, especially the top 50, are all pretty much gone. CU has no chance, as they've been talking to their select handful of schools for a long time.

It will be interesting if Tad brings someone else in...I really don't see why he wouldn't want to save it for next year. He brought in Dre because that class was lacking a little, as was CU as a whole, in talent. We're in a different spot now - he did a great job with this year's class.

I trust and agree with Tad on this one. You bring the players who help you now, and sort it out going forth. I wonder if he expects attrition from a few players over the next couple of years.
