I will not be buying it - I learned my lesson from Diablo.

Always on internet. EA Origin required. No terraforming, tiny city sizes, no subways, and obnoxious social integration. No local saves, so you can destroy and rebuild. It's too bad, because the backbone of the game actually looks awesome.

Are any of you planning on purchasing?

Ars Technica did an interesting preview that is giving me even more pause:

I was excited to buy. Then I read everything you did. No thanks. Why **** with everything that made the original game great?

Yes - i believe it does.... it doesn't run great.

I might give 6 months to mature and see if some of my frustrations are worked out.

In a surprise to no one, gamers are having issues downloading the game today, and getting in. Doesn't sound as bad as Diablo 3, but queues are hitting up to 30+ minute to log in and play.

Issues are growing more severe with the EA servers... and the internet rage is growing!

I assume none of you guys purchased?

hells no. I would not be working if so. watched some videos of it tho - looks very promising, if they remove the social stuff and just turn it back into sandbox heaven.

If they grow the map sizes quite a bit, then I will consider it down the line. That is my main limitation. I can't see myself enjoying a map that only goes 8 blocks in either direction

the video I saw today suggested that in private mode you can build a bunch of separate "cities" connected to each other. So you get more than one 8 block segment -b ut you have to work on each "city" separately. Or something.

That is it - each region has up to 16 maps, and each map is a city. Each city needs to specialize in something.

I don't mind that per se, but the citiies don't stack up next to each other... they are separated by large tracts of land, so they are all isolated. So, instead it is like you have a bunch of towns - you can't try to make great world metropolis' like London or New York.

No way was I purchasing. Did renew my interest in SimCity, though. When I've got time to stay up half the night messing with it, I'll probably just drag out my SimCity 3 disk. (I didn't particularly care for 4, for that matter...)

I'm hopeful that, like with Diablo 3, other developers will see that there is interest in city builders and they will take up the torch over the next few years.

And, the issues are approaching Diablo 3 level now.

Additionally, it sounds like even if you can get into the game and play, the game itself is a buggy mess.

I own it - haven't played it a ton. It is very deep, but lacks any sense of character. Additionally, the game has serious performance issues as cities grow.

    Still, some people like it.

SimCity 5 has become an internet debacle... it is hilarious

How much do you have to spend to get a computer that will run a game like this?

    Yes - Total War!

For some reason, I didn't like Shogun 2. Technically, it was a great game, but I don't think setting was up my alley.

Very much looking forward to Rome 2

I'm shopping around for a laptop that will play it reasonably well. Rome I was great, and some of the modded version were too.
