We managed to score 14 points against one of the worst defenses in the nation. This is not an indictment of Hawks decision to play the frosh. The guy did well in spurts and provided a needed spark. I am glad Helfrich put him in. I look forward to a platoon system the rest of the year (which will, if Tyler keeps playing well, slowly transition more and more away from little hawk).

The problem is that our O line was still awful. Speedy got most of his yards after making someone miss in the backfield. And we still only scored 14....

We are not out of the woods yet. Mizzou is gonna be revved up to solidify their position in the big XII North. They are sitting at 1-2. ANother loss, and all of a sudden Kansas is the clear frontrunner for getting the honor of being destroyed by the South winner (UT most likely).

However, my bones are feeling a win. This mizzou team is starting to look like all of his old ones in the pre-chase daniels era. Late season meltdown? perhaps...

Not likely. I sure hope so though.

Yup, 14 points against the kjsu defense is far from good.

I like what Hansen brings to the offense. My only gripe is why we didn't stick with the kid. Why did we see Cody during the last drive? I think Hansen has clearly proved to be the #1 guy.

we didn't see him because he was forcing balls into coverage. Granted, maybe some of those would have been caught if we had WR's that weren't 5'10, but jesus, he scared me a few times. Helfrich trusted Cody to take care of the ball, not Hanson. end of story on that decision.

Yeah, he did force a few balls into coverage, but what do you expect with a true frosh in his first game. He's going to make plenty of bad decisions this year.

I agree. I was happy with his play for the most part. However, as much as I loved the accuracy he showed on most of his throws, that riverboat gambler style needs to be limited sometimes.

Which is why you don't put him in with the game on the line, knowing that your defense has a good chance at holding them as long as you don't give them good field position with say.... a turnover.

With each game he'll gain more confidence,he seems to have plenty of it now. If our mickey mouse OC pulls his head out,we may be able to score more than 14 points each game.

    Where are the TE'S?

Do we not have the onions to run a Screen Pass?

I'd give Hansen high marks for his first game. It is not that abnormal for a program to put a freshman under center, even some of the premier programs have been known to do it.

I think the reason he wasn't in on the last series was mistakes and experience. They felt Hawkins had the most experience under those circumstances and I tend to agree with it. I do think Hansen should get most of the reps in practice this week and start if he does well in practice. If you pull the shirt off you may as well get the most out of the move

Yea, despite the fact that we only scored 14 points against a bad defense, I like the dimension that Hansen brings to the offense. And it's not like he can't throw the ball either, he showed to be at least an adequate passer last night.

Our pass protection already looks like a jail break, a screen might get the QB killed.

Just think how easy it would be to sell to the defense! The O-line wouldn't even need to know it was a screen! Business as usual.

I feel terrible for saying that.

I am looking forward to seeing what the Oline's stats are in the KSU game. I remember Head and Bahr being turnstiles, and even Girthy getting beat pretty often.

this is truly a game of momentum...if we can't kick field goals, we are forced into poor decisions when we are within 30 years of the endzone...momentum shifts. I don't think the score would have been this close if we could have made some field goals. It sounds crazy but if we could count on a field goal our play calling would be different and we would score more TDs...it would create more balanced play calling instead of having to wing it on 3rd down.

Yeah, we only scored 14 points. BUT, the more important statistic to me was how long we kept the offense on the field. It was a DRASTIC difference from the previous 3 weeks and kept the defense fresh into the 4th quarter. If we had been able to do that against KU, maybe we wouldn't have worn down at the end of the game

Exactly. The points total is concerning, but at least we had sustained drives on Saturday. An offense doesn't need to score on every single drive to be successful, putting together a few first downs is a positive step for this team right now.

Wow. I like Hansen. I was totally caught by surprise when DH put him in. He supposedly sparked the offense.... Hmm, so what would we have scored if they didnt burn his RS? What would Cody and Ballenger have put on the board? Scary to think about and not very promising.

I hope Tyler is a quick learner. WIth his physical skills, he needs to develop his mental game quickly for us to have a chance at a winning season.

A win vs Mizzou would be HUGE, but doubtful. They still scored 31 pts on TU and we havent scored that many points since Csewe what seems like years ago.

It's Hansen by the way, with an E. We might as well get used to spelling it, he's going to see plenty of PT.

Absolutely, BUT the commentators will get it wrong. One time they called him COdy before realizing it was a nice run because it wasnt Cody.

What you might of missed! With Hansen in at QB CU was able to win the time of possession by 12 minutes (that is significant) which helped in winning the game. We avoided the numerous 3 and out series which have been so common before.

Tyler Hansen did not get the majority of snaps in practice this past week so he did not have the benefit of the whole offensive package.

I disagree on the line, the running was more effective because Hansen made the defense play more honest. There were a lot of nice running lanes for stewart.
