    Two? Three?

The way some people talk about the CU job, you would think this is the hardest job in the country. Bar none.

I'm guessing zero. No one seems to like anyone.

Off the top of my head I'd say there is:

    1. Mac

    2. McCartney

    3. Bill

    4. Coach Mac

    5. And Bill McCartney

    That's five.:smile2:

Somebody will need to explain to me what it means to be a "good fit" in Boulder. I find that most of the people who trash potential candidates have already made up their mind on who should get the position. Yes, I'm looking at you lefty.

No one can win at CU. Well, except for like every coach the program has ever had other than Fairbanks and Hawkins.

Every candidate has their warts I'm just happy about the caliber of names mentioned. If we cant get a Miles/Richt/Belotti type hire we better go the Mac EB route.

Sorry, I guess I didn't realize I was not allowed to have an opinion on the topic.

What I have pretty consistently said in other posts is that I think Mac is the highest return, lowest risk candidate. He is not a sure fire fix and it is possible the criticisms launched (ie. too old, out of the game too long etc. ) could hold true. I doubt they would since the game isn't all that different and hasn't fundamentally changed in 40 years. Nobody knew who he was when he started recruiting to CU either, so why that is such a big deal I don't know. But I do recognize there is a risk Mac ends up being only marginally better than Hawk (it is hard for me to even imagine anyone doing worse than Hawk).

I would be happy with another proven candidate if that is the way it goes (i.e. Belotti, Miles, Richt). I don't think CU is in a position to take risks with this hire and a guy who has done it before, better than anybody else, is probably going to be the best candidate IMO.

If CU were to go with another unproven candiadte (Calhoun, Sumlin et al.) It would be too big a risk IMO.

Ther is one candidate I keep coming back to as the best risk (Mac). Several I think would also be good (Richt, Miles, Belotti, Cabral) some I really think would be risky (Calhoun, Sumlin, et al.) As far as what the "fit" is, as far as I'm concerned it si a winner who runs a generally clean program. I really wouldn't care what his religion/political persuasion is, and anybody who allows that to form the basis of their decision is pretty short sighted IMO.

We waited at least a year too long to fire you-know-who. CU has some real problems starting next year with talent. Whoever comes in will be coaching a team that will be in the bottom half of the conference as far as the Jimmys and Joes go. When your team goes half a decade without a winning season, that's what happens. The next coach will have to actually win some games to change the perception with HS kids that CU is a football dead zone.

Not impossible to overcome, but not so easy a caveman could do it. I've seen a half dozen names of guys that would probably have a 75% shot at turning things around. Another 10-12 that would have a 50/50 chance. Maybe 4 seriously mentioned on this board that I think are worse than an even bet.

You should know you aren't allowed to have an opinion around here :smile2:

Every coaching hire is a risk (even Mac). I guess I just get tired of people who have already made up their mind saying how this guy sucks or that guy isn't ready. I'd still like to see the search committee explore the options without getting blinders on.

 I agree, I hope they beat the bushes and sort through all the possibilities. But based on what little bit I know, I still think Mac is the best risk. I just have a hard time believing CU is going to get a "name" coach to come here, especially if that coach has a job already paying seven figures. If that ends up being the case it boils down to Mac, a mid-major HC or a BCS Coord. I'll take Mac under that scenario.

Coaching is not the biggest hurdle for CU to win again

I would be happy with any of the following

    Bellotti
    Mac
    Bieniemy

I would be "ok" with it and give it a chance
    Miles
    Richt

Would NOT want, be very dissapointed
    Calhoun
Any other coach with no BCS coaching experience

Bellotti has a lower winning % and fewer top 10 finishes (in more years) than Richt does. Add in the fact that he's not coaching in the NCAA and he's already on record looking down his nose at our facilities and I can see more comparisons to Fairbanks with him than with Richt.

Knowing the Pac-10, a great track record for finding good OC's, almost playing in two national title games (screwed out of 1).

I know, you assholes think I'm a moron. I'm just not a huge Richt fan, not everybody has to be. I have my own opinions about the guy.
