Asking for their annual contribution. I told them to call back when Hawk was no longer employed at the University of Colorado. I know that sucks, and it hurt to do it, because I know the school needs the money. But I'm firmly convinced that they won't make any changes until it's obvious that their decisions are impacting more than just the football program.

I thought I'd feel all smug and self-rightous about doing it, but I just feel bad. I know CU needs the money. I can only hope that enough other people do the same thing so that a message is sent. The kid who was calling did say I wasn't the first person to say that.

I keep avoiding their calls, as I don't know if I can say that to the students who are actually making the calls.

I won't quit going to the games, but my other financial contributions will be on hold until hawkins is gone. He's burning this program to the ground.

So sad it's come to this. But this is the right move for the long run.

My dad did a similar thing a couple days ago. He was polite but he asked them to get serious about the athletic program. Well, that and add some conservatives to the staff for a little balance.

Sacky football is a vital part of CU and is a point of pride and fellowship for graduates. Till the Higher ups at CU realize that do not feel bad for with holding. Remedy is bank the contribution and give more in futre if you have a real moral dilemma over it.

Much easier said than done. While I agree in principle, in reality, there simply aren't very many conservatives who go into that line of work. The talent pool is pretty shallow.

I haven't received a call, but I intend to tell them that I will support the school with donations once the academic institution at CU starts supporting the athletic institution.

 A conservative in Boulder is the person standing just to the right of the founders of ACORN and presidents of SEIU, and Teachers Union in the DNC fundraisers of the year photo.

One other option - direct the money to the cross country program and specify that you'll back a winner. I hate to see folks like Mark Wettmore and Jenny Barringer suffer for the failings of the FB team.

I am with you...I have been ignoring the calls for a few weeks now...I will follow Sacky's lead and tell them why my 6-figure donation will not be flowing into the Buff coffers this year...

They called me last week (tuesday) and asked me if I would at least meet last years contribution. I pretty much told them the same thing Sacky did. Then they called again yesterday asking for my wife. She told them that her contibutions only go to the School of Pharmacy and that she could not trust them (caller) to use her $$$ wisely. I havn't been able to get my wife to contribute to the AD or any other part of the school for 23 years.

I'm fairly certain anyone calling on behalf of CU has been told "no $$$ until Hawkins is gone" and that they (the callers) are passing that message onto those who are in charge of those collections.

Can you direct to a specific athletic program or just to athletics in the general fund? I know a guy that wanted to donate big $ to another to a specific program and he was told that it would go into the general fund and could not be specifically applied to a certain sport. So he didn't donate.

Isn't the CU Foundation the private (i.e. NOT the University of Colorado) fund raising corporation that raises money to give to the University of Colorado?

I think that the CU Foundation DOES give a lot of money to the University of Colorado - but withholding funds from the CU Foundation does not necessarily mean you are withholding funds from the University of Colorado.

I am pretty sure that you CAN EARMARK funds that are sent to the CU Foundation. But, according to the CU Foundation website - the University of Colorado comes up with a list of "priorities" and then the CU Foundation Board of Directors sits down and determines how much money to give to each of CU's priorities.

I believe that's all true. But here's the point - I don't believe that any changes will be made in the athletic department until there is pain felt elsewhere. My hope is that they will realize that their poor decisions with respect to the athletic department have an impact on other areas as well. The whole "unintended consequences" thing. If overall funding for the school drops by $10MM because they were too stupid to spend $3MM to fire a coach, maybe they won't be so stupid next time. My measley donation won't amount to a drop in the bucket, but the foundation raised something like $100MM last year. That means a simple 10% drop in donations will have a huge real dollar impact. Maybe I'm dreaming, but I've done everything else I can think of. I've sent e-mails - nothing. I wore blue to the games and I was called a "bad fan". I shouted at Mike Bohn during a tailgate. The one thing I won't do is stop going to the games, so that leaves cutting off my annual contribution to the CU foundation.
