I hate to harp on scheduling, but why do we schedule like this? Can't we be a little smarter about this?

    2010
    Sat, Sep 04-Colorado State
    Sat, Sep 11-@ California
    Sat, Sep 18-HAWAII
    Sat, Oct 02-GEORGIA

    2011
    Sat, Sep 03-@ Hawaii
    Sat, Sep 10-CALIFORNIA
    Sun, Sep 18-TBA (possibly CSU)
    Sat, Sep 24-@ Louisiana State

cal and hawaii could slip... too soon to tell how good they will be.

uga and lsu, you can probably count on those being tough games.

    the sheep are all done.

If Kansas had won its conference games they would have been playing for a MNC.

Going to Hawaii is never easy though. Going on the road to Hawaii and LSU in the same season seems like overkill.

And CSU might not be very good, but until proven otherwise, they will continue to play the Buffs tough.

It there really a lot of money to be generated by playing at Hawaii? I guess there could be, if the Buffs scheduled another home game.

I can't see where any payout from Hawaii would remotely match the expense associated with travel.

Honestly who knows how good programs are going to be in 3-4 years. Oklahoma was was expecting a Miami-FL of a few years ago to come into their house this year, and look what they got.

And I'm pretty sure the Hawaii games are there for us to try to put a stranglehold on recruits from the islands. "Wanna play big-time college ball, and we'll pay for a trip home at least once during the year?"

I think the hope is that it is a Nationally televised game...so we get more money. But honestly...this specific game screams RECRUITING to me.

I like it this way, even though it's tougher than your average non-conference schedule out there. That gives us 2 games against teams from conferences that are one notch below the BCS conferences, yet these won't be considered a joke like the games KU had on their schedule.

I don't mind scheduling tough teams, I just hope we start those seasons well. Otherwise, it could get ugly real quickly.

I guess I did not realize we were talking Hawaii specifically. Overall it's about $$$$$ and recruiting.

It was Hawkins that pushed for the Hawaii series. From the CU press release:

Colorado recruits the islands, and coach Dan Hawkins made it a goal to get the Buffs out there every four years to play a game. It would both get those players from Hawai’i an opportunity to play in front of family and friends as well as to have some of the mainland players experience a trip to Hawai’i, albeit brief, one many likely may never get a chance to make.

It's actually smart of Hawk to do... Very often we are recruiting players from Hawaii, and it is good for recruting when you can say "we'll have a game in your home state..."and as NWD said, so that their families can see them play. Recruiting is important for Hawaii because it is considered our "sister" state when it comes to tuition and fees which saves money in the athletic department.

I don't have a problem with Hawaii being on the schedule. It makes sense for recruiting. I don't have a problem with Cal on the schedule. It makes sense for recruiting. I just look at those schedules and wonder why they can't be toned down a little bit.

The more pressing question: Why would we be playing a Sunday game in 2011?:confused:

There will only be two teams that play for the title every year, and even if we return to greatness, 4 times out of 5 we are not going to be one of them. You might as well have a kickass schedule to look foward to. In the years that this team is good enough to win the title, they will beat these teams.

Id rather go about this way, then the way that Kansas almost got there. They played only one team all year that ended the season ranked, and they lost to them.

Well, in 2010 Hawaii should be easier since you've got them at home and I will be really surprised if you guys don't crush the Rams the next 4-5 years. At Cal will be tough but you've got Georgia here so you've got a good shot.
As far as at Baton Rouge...

Holy christmas, how many times a year do we have to have the strength of schedule discussion?

At least it's better than "name the defense" threads. :smile2:

Isn't the NCAA also talking about teams that play Hawaii can schedule a 13th game to help offset the costs?

That option has been available for a long time. The school has the option of scheduling another game or taking a bye week.

If you play a non-conf schedule like we do in '10 and '11 you can lose a game or two and still play for the MNC. There-in lies the difference. KU's **** schedule gives them one shot and one shot only. If you play a tougher schedule you get another chance, see LSU, OSU.

One more thing... if KU hadn't GUARANTEED ticket sales to the Orange Bowl they wouldn't be going to a BCS bowl at all because of that 1 loss and cupcake schedule. Lucky for them MU refused to guarantee ticket sales or it'd be Mizzou in the Orange Bowl.
