BOULDER – The University of Colorado women’s soccer team travels to the Pacific Northwest this weekend to face the Oregon State Beavers and Oregon Ducks.

The Buffaloes earned their first Pac-12 Conference victory last week, upsetting No. 23 USC 1-0 in Los Angeles, Calif. Colorado is 8-4 this season and 1-2 in conference play.

The Buffs’ first contest is against Oregon State (0-9-3, 0-3-3 Pac-12) on Friday, Oct. 10 at 3 p.m. MT. Friday’s match will mark the fourth meeting between the two programs and only the second time Colorado has played at the Beavers' Paul Lorenz Field. CU is 1-2 in the series.

Match Notes

Absolutely must win at Oregon State.

Really need both of these, actually.

I really don't think that there is any way that we lose to Oregon State. As of a couple of days ago, they have only scored 2 goals on the season and that was in one game.

Obviously off-topic, but just wanted to mention to any Pac 12 soccer fanatics (if there are any?) not enthralled with the T.N. Football Game- The probable Pac 12 Game of the year recently started on the Pac 12 network- NCAA #3 Stanford visiting #1 UCLA.

No score 9 minutes in.

And- Go Buffs tomorrow and Sunday!

Edit- Stanford/ UCLA game over- UCLA overcomes Stanford scoring the 1st goal and wins 2-1 in regulation. I was (lightly) rooting for Stanford, as a win by them might have given the Buffs a 2nd opportunity later this year to beat a #1 team when the Buffs visit the farm on 10/16. Oh well, no biggie.

Absolutely need to win both to finish in top half of conference. They had a key win at USC a week ago and played very well at UCLA. They need to continue to play at a high level and get wins against teams that they have the talent to beat.

After the Oregon schools CU is @ Stanford on Thursday (I wonder if they'll go straight to Palo Alto after playing at Oregon on Sunday) before return for five consecutive home matches. All of those five are winnable, but all will be challenging.

Looks like a nice sunny day in Corvallis ("Oregon's Heart of the Valley"). Select Corvallis trivia (Per Wikipedia):

"At a longitude of 123 degrees west and 17 minutes, the city is the westernmost city in the lower 48 states with a population larger than 50,000."

"Corvallis lies in the middle of the Unchurched Belt. A 2003 study, released once every 10 years, listed Benton County (of which Corvallis makes up the majority of the population) as the least religious county per capita in the United States."

"Education- Corvallis has a higher education rate per capita than any other city in the State of Oregon."

The match is about to begin.

In the preceding game on the Pac 12 network, Cal comes back from a 1-0 deficit and gets a road win over USC 2-1.

The field does look a little sloppy (clods easily coming up). Could be some slips today.

No score at the half. Buffs with the best chances- best probably being a Brie Hooks blast from ~30 yards that clanged the top post. Buffs with 3 shots on goal vs. 1 for OSU, and leading 7 to 4 in shots taken.

One kind of a bummer call that could have cost the Buffs a good shot- a cross in by a Buff that the goalie got to but dropped. Emily Paxton was right there and got between the goalie and the ball, so could have had a good chance at a shot if she could have turned on the goalie and gotten the ball by (not a sure thing goal, but a decent chance), but a goalie interference (???) was called. Neither announcer thought it was a foul, and it didn't look like one to me.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!

Brie Hooks with the goal. Free kick that Olivia Pappalardo receives, she makes a little pass to Hooks for point blank shot from maybe 10 yards from a pretty extreme angle to the right of the goal. Approximately 2 minutes into the 2nd half.

Oh oh- Darcy Jerman has to be helped off the field with an ankle. Was able to put a little weight on it. Hopefully not too bad.

Still 1-0 Buffs at the 65 minute mark.

Yellow card just issued to one of the Buff's coaches (not Sanchez?).

OSU providing some pressure with a couple corners in short order. In the latest, thankfully head it wide.

Good to see- Jerman back in already.

Still 1-0 Buffs, 15 minutes to go. OSU is looking a little more dangerous now.

Buffs with the 1-0 win!!! (Almost 2-0- Hooks with a near miss on a breakaway in the last minute.)

Now 2-2 in conference. Next up the Ducks in Eugene on Sunday.
