From April 15th through May 31st, the Evaluation Period for the Class of 2012 is on!

Coaches will be on the road finding talent and building relationships.

    Expect to see new offers.

From Stoudt's Recruitipedia, the "Evaluation Period" is when: The college coach may watch the prospect play or visit his high school, but cannot have any in-person conversations with the prospect or his parents off the college's campus. The prospect and his parents can visit a college campus during this period. A coach may write and telephone the prospect or his parents during this time.

The following were the CU Junior Day Attendees we were able to confirm:

    '11 TNFR WR Logan Gray

    CA OG Travis Averill
    CA CB Dalis Bruce
    CA QB Shane Dillon
    CA OLB Kyle Kelley
    CA OG Stephon McCray
    CA DT Justin Solis
    CA QB Travis Wilson
    CO TE Evan Baylis
    CO OT Shane Callahan
    CO OT Arthur Flores
    CO DT Tyler Henington
    CO OG Daniel Kamanawa
    CO OT Alex Kozan
    CO DE Daniel McQueen
    CO QB Cyler Miles
    CO ILB Clay Norgard
    CO C Nate Shepherd
    CO OT Paul Thurston
    IL WR Sam Handler
    NJ S Elijah Shumate
    NJ CB Yuri Wright
    OH S Bam Bradley
    OR QB Reece Hack

Here are some players to keep an eye on during the evaluation period. Would not be surprised to see some of these guys enter the picture:

    QB
Preston Dewey (Austin, TX)-Starting to get interest from several BCS programs and was a standout at the Fort Worth Elite 11 camp. He is also coached by Ty Detmer, a family we have several ties with.

    RB
Johnathan Williams (Allen, TX)-He committed to Missouri at their spring game yesterday, but Bieniemy/Kennedy might be able to change his mind. Big back who is probably the #3 back in Texas this year. He had a huge junior season after missing most of his sophomore season due to a broken ankle.
Tim Wright (La Marque, TX)-Very versatile and speedy back that helped lead his team to the 4A state title game last December. La Marque is just east of the Houston metro area.

    WR
Deontay Greenberry (Fresno, CA)-Was probably the best offensive player at the 7-on-7 camp in Las Vegas last month and is also an Army All-American. Has four Pac-12 offers right now and I expect that number to increase very soon.
Kenny Lawler (Upland, CA)-He committed very early to ASU when they were the only school to offer, but he has since added other offers and will take visits. He was another standout at the 7-on-7 camp in Las Vegas.
Dontonio Jordan (Corinth, TX)-Pure slot receiver that already has two BCS offers and should be getting more in the coming weeks. Stats suffered a bit last year because of inconsistent QB play.
Dalyn Williams (Corinth, TX)-He had a very good sophomore season at WR before being switched to QB his junior season. He is trying to sell colleges on his future as a QB, but he is more likely to make an impact at WR in college.

    TE
Blake Jackson (Scottsdale C.C., AZ)-Has a couple offers already and is getting attention from several schools, including a visit to Arkansas this weekend. He is a December grad that could potentially be here for spring ball and help provide immediate help at TE.
Josh Cook (Santa Ana, CA)-A bit undersized, but still was a standout at the LA Nike Camp. He also plays for a powerhouse program, which means plenty of coaches will stop by to scout him and other prospects.

    OL
Ronnie Stanley (Las Vegas, NV)-He has been on our radar for a while but we have yet to offer. Part of a loaded OT class out west this year. He also plays for powerhouse Bishop Gorman.
Cedrick Poutasi (Las Vegas, NV)-Big kid who is starting to get attention from several schools and performed well at the LA Nike Camp. One of the better interior line prospects out west.

    DL
Taiwan Johnson (Manvel, TX)-His recruitment has blown up in the last couple months. One of the better all-around defensive ends out there. Manvel is located about 30 miles south of Houston.
Avery Moss (Tempe, AZ)-Athletic player who also plays on the AAU circuit in basketball. Has yet to really focus on football full-time, but he still has three early Pac-12 offers. We (and everyone else) have already offered his teammate Andrus Peat.
Danielle Hunter (Katy, TX)-Another players whose recruitment has blown up in the last couple months. His team was 1-9 last season, so it has taken some time for schools notice him. He could end up at other positions besides DE.

    LB
Thomas Brown (Gardena, CA)-He is on our radar already and showed well at the LA Nike Camp. It is the same high school as 2011 signee Woodson Greer.
Reshawn Hooker (Fontana, CA)-Fast LB out of the Inland Empire that is in the process of transferring schools. Had high production as junior with over 100 tackles.
Butch Pauu (Anaheim, CA)-Undersized LB that has done well at camps like the U.S. Army National Combine and the LA Nike Camp (where he was position MVP). Still pretty raw though and he wants to go on a mission (LDS), so that might be part of the reason schools have not jumped in yet.

    DB
LaDarrell McNeil (Dallas, TX)-Big hitting safety who is not afraid to throw his body around. Considered by most to be the top safety prospect in Texas this year. He also plays for a school that Bobby Kennedy should know well.
DeVante Harris (Mesquite, TX)-Was a standout at the recent Nike camp in Fort Worth. He has good speed and has the frame to add weight once he gets on campus too.
Asante Gibson (Chula Vista, CA)-Intriguing prospect out of the San Diego area who missed most of his junior year due to a broken ankle, but he was a standout as a sophomore and was productive in the few games he played his junior season before the injury. He is also a smart kid that wants to go the pre-med or engineering route.

Also, keep in mind that the evaluation period can be used to get a jump start on 2013 prospects as well. The coaches will be looking at those players too.

So, a coach could go to the kid's school and stand, say, 20 feet away and call the kid on his cell phone? ala Tricky Ricky?

Forgot about Powell, but I agree that he is another one to watch. I think we will see some movement in Nevada over the next six weeks.

BB - we just offered Jeremiah Poutasi from Desert Pines in Las Vegas. http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=5493657

I think that it's 1 player who is in the Rivals database as "Cedrick" and the Scout database as "Jeremiah". Based on the photos, they're twins if it's 2 different people.

I'm going to sit down for dinner. I'll work on the profile later, but we need to figure this out.

Pretty sure it is the same guy. Not only do they look identical, but the measurables are similar and the offer list is exactly the same. I will do some more digging to make sure.

It will be interesting to see how many early grads the staff digs up if they in fact can bring in 30 guys. The next year's class would be relatively small, but I don't expect them to "save" any. May need 5 or so January admits.

Blue chip QB Zeke Pike is deciding this week... Once he commits I expect a domino effect of QB commits afterwards

His name is "Cedrick", but his friends call him "Jeremiah".

Fals alarm, anyway. Huffman got texts from Poutasi and Shane Dillon at the same time. It was Dillon who confirmed a CU offer, not Poutasi (although we're close to offering Poutasi). I'm going to go ahead with a profile.

Keep in mind that the coaches are looking at prospects beyond this class during the evaluation period. Some 2013 prospects to keep an eye on:

Troy Williams (Harbor City, CA)-Looks to be one of the top QBs in California next season and he already has three early offers. He has showed well at camps this spring and should be getting a ton of Pac-12 interest.

Ryan Novak (Littleton, CO)-Novak is already on our radar and he visited for the spring game. Big QB who wants to enroll early in December 2012. He is on track to be one of the top prospects in Colorado for the 2013 class.

Luke Falk (Westlake Village, CA)-Another QB in California that should garner interest from many Pac-12 programs. He transferred to Oaks Christian from Utah. He recently picked up his first offer from Florida State and some of our coaches dropped by Oak Christian to check in on prospects.

Zachary Green (Ventura, CA)-A RB who recently transferred to Darrell Scott's old high school. He is getting attention from programs all over the place and has showed well at camps this spring.

Dontre Wilson (DeSoto, TX)-Looks to be one of the top RBs in Texas for 2013 and plays for one of the powerhouse programs in the DFW metroplex that consistently churns out top-level talent, including Von Miller. He can do it all at RB and also returns kicks.

Riley Sorenson (Santa Margarita, CA)-Goes to same high school as 2012 target Max Tuerk. He showed well at the LA Nike Camp and should be one of the more highly sought after OL prospects in California.

John Lopez (Orange, CA)-Goes to the same high school as 2012 TE target Christo Kourtzidis. He showed well at the LA Nike Camp and might be the top OL prospect in the West when it is all said and done.

Alquadin Muhammed (Ramsey, NJ)-He visited for the spring game with teammates Yuri Wright and Elijah Shumate, so he is definitely on our radar early. He could help continue a pipeline to Don Bosco.

Justin Manning (Dallas, TX)-An undersized DT that is still growing, but has great quickness and has performed well at various camps this spring.

Lowell Lotulelei (South Jordan, UT)-Big, strong DT that already has offers from both major in-state programs. He was the defensive line MVP at the UNLV Badger camp.

David Price (Long Beach, CA)-Was a standout at the LA Nike Camp and is getting early attention from several Pac-12 programs. Long Beach Poly players will always be on the radar of top schools.

    Thanks, BB. Nice list.

I think the 2013 class needs to start with Novak and OT Chris Fox from Ponderosa. I'd love to see those early commitments to get the ball rolling.

Completely spaced on Fox, good call. He is huge as a sophomore. Hope we can get some juniors into Boulder on unofficial visits throughout the fall.

Thinking we might see more RB offers soon with the recent decommitment of BJ Catalon. We recently offered KeiVarie Russell out of Washington and Byron Marshall out of San Jose might be another name to watch.

We need to upgrade our speed at the position, which makes losing Catalon a bit of a blow. Some all-purpose backs to keep an eye on:

Tim Wright-I mentioned him earlier in the thread. He does a little bit of everything for his high school team and his production during his junior season was outstanding.

Tavarreon Dickerson-A real burner out of DFW that would upgrade team speed immediately. He was a standout at the Fort Worth Nike camp.

Shaquille Powell-A bit bigger than most of the all-purpose backs out there and maybe lacks the top end speed of a typical all-purpose back, but great production as both a sophomore and a junior for the powerhouse program in Las Vegas.

One other position that has not really been a focus early on in recruiting is fullback. I thought we would see a couple names pop up by now. It is a hard position to scout these days with so many high schools running spread offenses, but one kid I like is E.J. Fatu of Klein, Texas in the greater Houston area. He is a bit short and raw as an overall fullback, but he runs with some power and has decent hands for a bigger back.

How about going after Mike Blakely, a 4* RB and early signee who's leaving Florida?

I'm shocked that we haven't even offered Byron Marshall yet. Maybe EB saw him and Catalon as very similar and he didn't need to waste the time required to court Marshall if we already had Catalon? Either way, we better hop in there, it'd make all of us forget losing Catalon really fast.

I really like Shaquille Powell, I don't know why he only has 3 offers. Grades maybe? He reminds me a lot of LaMichael James.

I think lack of elite top-end speed is holding Powell back. I like him quite a bit as well, even as a feature back-he has the size to take on 20-25 carries a game.

I totally agree on Marshall. I think he is a special talent who would challenge for a starting job as a true freshman.

I have been keeping an eye on him since he showed up on the initial top 250 Watch List. I understand the big-time production, but I watched his film and came away unimpressed. I really wonder if he has maxed out his potential.

I would think he needs to show well as a LB in the camps to get better offers. He looked like he had some nice quickness, but I'm not sure I saw LB speed in him. It would be nice to get a little pipeline to Dorsey/Crenshaw going, though.

He also seems like a good dude judging by an interview I watched. He rocks a 4.2 gpa so he has his head on straight. One thing I noticed watching the video though, was that his frame didn't look like it was the type of frame that could support much more weight without losing speed.

So we have offered a handful of players on the list I posted on page one, but I hope we take another look at Avery Moss. He is up to seven offers now and is getting attention from most of the Pac-12. Very athletic DE prospect that is just scratching the surface right now.

One other kid that has gotten a lot of attention during the Spring Evaluation Period is Ryan McDaniel out of Torrance, CA. Very good two-way athlete who plays with a mean streak.

You are correct. Early on USF was rumored to be in the lead, but he did end up at Auburn, which surprised a number of folks. Maybe he is trying to follow in Cam Newton's footsteps.
