We have stated many times how we need to recruit Texas, and man is this staff taking this to heart. There's enough talent in Texas that won't get recruited by the big boys to go around.

Add in the fact that Coach Brown (UT) has no clue what he is doing anymore, and I think we pull a few really good players. They are more than likely guys who will have Tulsa, SMU, Iowa State, Kansas, NTSU, LA-Lafayette types of offer lists but that's ok if we do diligence. We can pull some studs out of Texas, which is looking to me to be about 2x deeper than California this year. This is the blueprint TCU has used. The pool of talent is huge.

Will be interesting to see if it pays off, but clearly we are casting a large net in Texas and we are going all in.

Said this in another thread. If Tad can pull kids from TX to Colorado, TunaMac can also. Many Texas kids can't wait to see some mountains.

    I like it.

There will always be kids who have the attitude of "I want to stay in Texas no matter what", but there are plenty who will be open to the idea of going out of state. It sounds like TunaMac does a good job of identifying kids that are open to the idea of Colorado, and moving on the ones who aren't.

I think it also helps that these kids haven't been exposed to our terrible play over the past few years on television. Seriously.

Sounds good to me. There are a lot of kids playing at UH, SMU, TCU and Baylor that could contribute here. If CU can snag a few, I'm all for it.

Some newer TX names that have popped up recently: Jordan Thomas, Jeremy Winchester, Sam Pierce, Emmanuel Ellerbee, Garrett Gray, Will Copa, Trai Mosley

I have always thought was is crucial to recruit Texas, because in Texas, football=life. Those are the players you want, right? I say the more the merrier from down south.

Having a mix of CO, CA and TX players builds a balanced team from a personality perspective that is very reflective of the state and the university. It makes sense from both a talent and culture perspective. I love that HCMM is going "all-in" for these 3 states.

Unfortunately we are in a situation where we can't miss on a lot of kids. A huge advantage of recruiting in Texas is that you have a higher chance of seeing a kid play against top quality competition, gives a better idea of how they will translate at the next level.

We also have an advantage in recruiting against a lot of the schools that recruit Texas hard in terms of lifestyle quality. Most of the PAC schools can offer a great campus experience. On the other hand what kind of weather, scenery, etc. can Iowa State or similar schools offer. It's a factor that may move the needle on some kids.

The same can be said for academics. We don't stick out in the PAC-12, but we excel compared to the majority of the schools that recruit Texas hard.

I also think it will help us in Texas that HCMM is such a strong Christian who sent his daughter to Baylor and also coached for the Cowboys. Then you've got Walters having coached at Texas A&M and Jeffcoat being a Cowboys legend. This staff has the bona fides to do well recruiting the Lone Star State.

I have a feeling the Christian thing is going to be a big thing like it was under Mac when things get rolling, maybe even before. Having that set of values can help a lot in winning the moms of the recruits.

No kidding. When I was at CU, it seemed like every person I ever met was either from CA, Colorado, Texas, or Hawaii.

Not only can we sell mountains and academics, we can sell numerous road trips to Cali and Washington. It is better than roadies to Iowa, Kansas, and other mid America states.

First off....I love it. Have family in Ft. Worth. Texas should be leveraged even more than Colorado IMO and for sure over CA.

I take a little issue with the TCU blue print comment. Soooo many people don't understand that TCU spends the 12th most on Football of any school...

2nd the amount of talent in the Metroplex is insane. TCU is at the epicenter....

    Really,
    Only those who are not
    Independent thinkers fail to
    Discern the method of TCU's
    Success

I'm glad you get it Lefty but you must be the first independent thinker when it comes to TCU...TCU cares about football and baseball. Nothing else.

Too many schools try to be good at too many things....

I have fam in Ft. Worth too, TCU goes all in. They are definitely committed in FB, for sure. One of my relatives was talking to them about playing BB there.

Pete: Crazy! No one's ever gonna believe we're a real band.
Ulysses Everett McGill: No, it's gonna work. I just gotta get close enough to talk to her. Takin' off with us has got more future than marryin' a guy named Waldrip. I'm Goddamned bona fide!

This is spot on. Embree talked about doing this, but MM is executing the plan, which is still in it's first phase, better. He appears to have a better presence in CO and TX than the previous staff, and we know how well MM scouts CA.

Also agree with others on the Christian angle helping in TX, and how MM, Jeffcoat, Walters are best suited to recruit down there. We also have an advantage over other P12 schools in relation to TX. We are close distance wise and offer a different climate than the AZ schools. Won't be for every recruit, but it'll be appealing to enough TX recruits to where we should do very well there.

At this point I'd happily re-institute the coke and stripper parties.

About time we had a coach living this theme of working TX, CA and CO. When CU was on the rise, this was the formula and it still can be. I know UT, TAMU and the rest of the Texas schools were down when we rose from the ashes in the 80s, but it is critical for us to recruit these areas if we are going to build up to a contender again. Cudos to the staff for getting it and going after it.

Hope we can land a couple of early targets. Zach Vaughan and Dakota Allen would be nice gets.
