This Saturday will probably be the last time Colorado ever plays Baylor again. Maybe the last time anyone associated with the university even so much as speaks the word Baylor ever again.

It’s a dirty word in Boulder nowadays.

Or maybe just the name Buddy Jones. In the ugly world that was every university for itself in a summer of schools changing conferences, we saw Jones, a Baylor regent and prominent lobbyist, lead the charge as the school waged a dishonorable battle of bad-mouthing Colorado in order to place itself in more favorable position to be included in the Pac-10.

His series of summer e-mails, made public by the Dallas Morning News, became must-reads for anyone who wanted to get a clear view of what a good many people thought – and likely still think – about the University of Colorado (academically and athletically), how CU goes about its business, and the support it gets, or doesn’t get, statewide.

Colorado’s players probably aren’t additionally motivated to win this game, despite what took place just a few months ago. CU coach Dan Hawkins doesn’t preach getting too emotional for one game over another, even if there are undertones of disrespect from one university toward another floating around. Baylor is just the next team on the schedule.
