BOULDER —The University of Colorado track and field team will host the CU Invitational this Friday and Saturday, April 11-12, at Potts Field.

The men’s and women’s javelin and hammer throws will be contested on Friday, starting at 3 p.m. Saturday’s events will start at 11 a.m. with the shot put, discus, pole vault, long jump, high jump and steeplechase.

The field events will run on a rolling schedule while the track events will follow a time schedule. The final event scheduled for the track is the men’s 4x400-meter relay at 3:30 p.m.

The Buffaloes will host many Front Range schools this weekend, including region rivals Colorado State along with many unattached athletes.

The forecast for Friday is a high of 81 F with partially cloudy skies and light wind. Saturday’s outlook is also partly cloudy with a high of 73 F and a 20 percent chance of precipitation with winds that can reach up to nine mph (as of Thursday afternoon). Should inclement weather force a cancellation of the meet, such notice will be posted on www.CUBuffs.com as well as a message left on the track and field office voice mail at 303/492-5227.

Something we don't talk enough about is what the IPF and development of the South campus can mean for T&F.

CU has the potential to be a national power in T&F, not just a distance event specialist program with random good athletes in other events.

I was told last week that CSU is paying far more attention to the female field events than CU, and that CU isn't on the radar for a lot of the girls at the national meets. Very depressing.
