    http://www.redraiders.com/2010/08/02/tech-notes-tuberville-itching-to-start-camp/

"Six players the Red Raiders signed in February did not meet freshman eligibility requirements: offensive lineman Aleon Calhoun from Navasota; running back Delans Griffin from Clinton, Okla.; defensive end Lawrence Cayou from New Orleans; defensive back Brandon Smith from Raceland, La.; and wide receiver Lavaughn Whigham and cornerback Phillip Warren, teammates from Miami, Fla.

That’s about what Tuberville expected. On national signing day in February, he said he expected only about 18 to 20 of the 25 new players to qualify."

How many programs have this kind of non-qualifying number every year? How much does this inflate the quality of the recruiting class?

Someday, somewhere, someone is gonna get totally ****ed by oversigning for a class and actually having that class get in. And I will be happy. Unless it is us. That would suck.

My guess is they failed NCAA standards, which are far higher than Tech's.

My guess is Tuberville came in late and signed some guys he knew would not qualify. He is probably hoping to sign and place these guys so that they end up in Lubbock in two years. It is not common for six guys to not qualify, but the Tech situation was a bit of a mess for the 2010 class. I doubt Tuberville is going to take the same risks from now on, he is actually putting together a very good 2011 class.

It didn't work out so well for LSU, apparently.

Slick Rick did it last year. He "encouraged" kids to leave the school. or they had to gray shirt. This was before the backpack 3 got busted and freed up three schollys.

Its happened before. I think Alabama had this issue a couple of years ago. After everyone qualified, Saban just told a couple of kids that their scholarships were no longer going to be honored. (Before Bama Charlie gets all pissed, it may not have been Bama, but it was one of them over-signing SEC teams).

Probably Mississippi. I seem to remember they had something like 33 LOI come in on signing day. Something had to give.

Wow. Gives us a little perspective on Miles. Don't want him at CU if that's how he treats players.

not a huge fan of Les. i don't get the fascination with Miles around here. the guy had a roster full of criminals at OSU (Prentiss Eliot anyone?) and one of the first things Gundy had to do was run off a bunch of guys who were borderline "thugs". That he's pushing the envelope of ethical behavior again doesn't surprise me at all....from what my step-dad's family peeps say in Oklahoma some of them being Poke fans.
