QB recruiting is an inexact science. But when it hits, it can transform programs in a hurry. Take a look at the Rivals rankings for dual threat quarterbacks in the 2011 recruiting class. Keep in mind most of these guys are just about to enter their sophomore years:

    http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrec...s/rank-2648;_ylt=AkOKOXmWBF_0QCS8JA6.5btGPZB4

    1. Braxton Miller: Starter at Ohio State.
    2. Brett Hundley: Starter at UCLA.
    4. J.W. Walsh: Had a promising redshirt freshman season cut short by a knee injury.
    6. Teddy Bridgwater: Starter at Louisville.
    12. Marcus Mariota: Starter at Oregon.
    13. Michael Brewer: Projected starter at Texas Tech.
    14. Johnny Manziel: Starter at Texas A&M.
    16. Everett Golson: Starter at Notre Dame.
    24. Trevone Boykin: Started most of last season at TCU as a redshirt freshman.

Pretty amazing to see how many young guys became stars quickly.

Hey, those Rivals rankings might mean something after all.

What also makes a huge difference for those programs is that unless somebody goes into the draft early those teams can expect to be solid at QB for the next 3 years and will not have to adjust to a different guy. Expect to see a lot of those schools in major bowls over the next few years. Of course that probability likely had a lot to do with those guys picking them but they will make a big impact in getting them there.

That also points to 7 of the top 11 not doing anything noteworthy yet.

This is why depth of a recruiting class and year-to-year recruiting consistency is as important as signing a handful of big names. About a third of your best recruits will make an impact during their first 2 years. About another third will make an impact before they graduate (but maybe not for who they originally signed with). And the other third are wash-outs that never mean the difference in a win.

That said, Duff's point stands. Dual threat QBs, especially, can energize a team and make an early impact that raises the boat.

So are you guys trying to say or imply that Sefo could be the longer term answer we have been craving forever or that dual threat QBs should be a high priority for 2014 and beyond or ???

FYI I am not trying to be an arse, just inquiring as to where you want to go with this thread. Obviously Wood, Dillon and Sefo all raise the bar regarding athleticism at the QB position for us but I think Sefo is the closest to dual threat we have on the roster come Fall.

Sefo had no other offers, so I wouldn't take it that far...

No, I have never gotten neg rep before, although there have certainly been times where I probably deserved it. Only neg rep I have ever given was for obvious trolling, spam and pure aholes like AnlSxBuff. I am not gonna neg rep another poster over trivial bull****.

The Sefo vs. Sefu misspell has been discussed over and over ever since we started recruiting him. Has nothing to do with any other names. People need to pay attention and figure out how the **** to spell our incoming QB's name!!

I wonder if anybody has problems spelling Josh Tupou's name, or Joel Klopfenstein back in the day...we should form a pitchfork brigade to correct this horrendous injustice. You are right, I misspelled the Qb's name, probably multiple times. BFD.

I'm not saying I would ever actually neg rep a buff fan. I was just really cranky that people keep misspelling Sefo's name over and over despite many people's drawing attention to it and the fact that it's only four letters long. It was not directed specifically at you lefty, just a general expression of frustration. He's our QB of the future (hopefully) and it's one vowel. For all you know, he (or his family) reads the site and is annoyed/offended by it.
