Not to derail this thread, but Perkins really isn't very similar to Booker. Perkins is a significantly better passer. His outside shot needs to get better though.

I think Collier might end up being the better player then Perkins, but I expect it will take him a year of developing a Division I college basketball body

I want both. But if we can only have one I'd prefer the one who is more of a true PG rather than a combo.... would that be Dominique?

I think Collier is the better shooter, and is probably seen as a shooting guard in some circles (ESPN). Perkins can probably create more for his teammates. They're both great players, that any program would be lucky to have.

Getting a "true" PG is a bit overrated in college basketball though. Even in the NBA now, most PG's look to score first rather then being a pass first guard.

I want whoever wants to be here. If that's Collier, great. If it's Perkins, great.

You know I love Perkins and want 1 point guard this year. Based on offers CU has out, Dom is my 3rd choice for that spot.

It really shines a spotlight on the level Tad has this thing when a consensus Top 100 prospect can be a Buff fan's 3rd choice at a position among the guys we're in on.

    Gotta love that.

fwiw, I'm a Collier guy for this class.

Go look at the offers over on Rivals. Almost all 4 star or better, and the ones that aren't are looked at as guys who will blow up over the summer, and there's Foster who doesn't have an offer in reality.

I'm well aware. It's ridiculous. In past years, I would have been over the moon for a guy like Jeremiah Paige and hoping we could land him. Now, I'm treating him as an after-thought or fallback plan. (Speaking of him, I hope there's room for him. Dude could develop into something special.)

Agreed on Paige. Start off with Collier and Zylan Cheatham, then take a chance on the upside of a kid like Paige. That would be a really nice class next year.

Also, whether he's your first choice or not, I find it hard to believe a Buff fan would flat out not want Collier.

I think a lot of the Collier love has something to do with.the fact he's a local and most on this board, I assume, live in Colorado, so they reall like the local kids and don't look enough at the other guys we are after. I agree with the previous poster about starting with Cheatham, but I'd want Perkins over Dom. I see Perkins as the better athlete. He is bigger, stronger, faster, and is an outstanding passer.

Guess some on this board just seek to villify anyone who has a differing opinion or doesn't hold all things Colorado on a pedestal.

I never said I would be disappointed if we landed the kid. I just don't hold him in anywhere near the same regard as some of you do.

I think it has more to do with wanting to get at least one of the top two Colorado prospects in 2014... doubly so because we need a PG for the class. Being they are local kids, they are probably more likely to commit to CU then some of the other top prospects that we are after. We have done a good job in recruiting, but we are still not a destination school and so when the opportunity arises to get a four star recruit in the state, CU's staff really has to find a way to get it done. Personally I believe if Colorado gets one of Collier/Perkins, it will also make it somewhat easier for another domino or two to fall their direction for this class.

It's all well and good to say that we should "start" with Zylan Cheatham but there are tons of offers on him already, and likely more coming (Gonzaga, Arizona might be close to offering). I'd love to "start" with Malik Pope, but easier said then done.

I'd love a class with Collier or Perkins, Chris Sandifer (who we are on very early) and Jack Williams. If we miss on both of the Colorado point guards, hope we go after Casey Benson.

I don't think you know what that word means. He's been pretty consistent in his opinions. Agree or disagree, he's not being hypocritical.

I guess saying start with Cheatham was the wrong way of putting it. Ideally I would like to get PG taken care of first. On Jack Williams, I'm really not high on him whatsoever. His film is very uninspiring despite his good numbers.

It's interesting that you're saying people want Dom over Perkins because he's a Colorado player, but I can tell you my post wasn't driven by the state in which Dom plays. Truth be told, if I could have my choice of any PG in this class, I'd have a really hard time passing over Casey Benson. I just see him as a kid who's going play at a high pace, be very low maintenance in terms of demanding his shots, and will do whatever it takes to win a game.

Now, having said that, I'd be thrilled to land any top 100 PG in 2014, and the difference between Benson, Collier and Perkins is pretty slim, in my opinion. Your post made it sound as if you flat out didn't want Dom on the team. You've since clarified that, but I think that's why you received that initial reaction from several posters. Any of these kids are light-years ahead of who we were recruiting even 3 years ago and all three would probably start as freshmen.

To be clear, the local comment was directed at those who wanted both Perkins and Dom. FWIW, Benson is my number 2.

OK, fair enough. I don't necessarily agree, but I can see where that comment comes from. I think more than anything, people see two top-75 prospects and want them to be Buffs. Considering both are in-state kids and we've been recruiting them for a couple of years already, people see them as realistic gets. But you're right, if we miss on one/both of Dom and Perkins, I think we'll get comparable talent from outside the state with our current level of recruiting. It's going to take awhile for Buff fans to adjust to that line of thinking though.

    The 2014 Colorado Duo

This is a bit of an off-shoot off of my Barzil post from yesterday, but I'm just curious about this. Obviously if CU strikes out on both Perkins and Collier, we're all going to be pissed. And obviously if we land both, we're going to be ecstatic. But what if we only land one of the two? How would you feel?

Boyle has done a very good job of bringing in top instate recruits (Talton, Scott, Gordon in 2012), and he will have an excellent shot at both of these guys in 2014.

Perkins is a top 50 recruit (and maybe even higher) and Collier is a top 100 recruit, so I would be ecstatic to land either guy. Realistically, I think we have a better chance at Collier since the big dogs aren't going after him like Perkins.

Either way, I would take either guy in a heartbeat. It would be sweet to land both, but I don't see them going to the same school together since they both play the same position.

Dinwiddie will probably go pro next year, so either guy can step right in and be the man at PG. Boyle can sell them on producing three draft picks in four years, making the tourney every year but one, lots of talent around you, and playing in front of friends and family, etc.

Let me start by saying obviously I am going to be happy with either Perkins or Collier, as they will both be Top 100 recruits. I also want to say that when I voted, I put the "I only wanted one answer" but wish I had other options. I would love to land both, but as we all know that most likely isn't going to happen. And to go a little further, if I had to choose who I wanted, that would most certainly be Perkins. He is going to be an Elite Level recruit. Probably going to wind up in the Top 30 maybe even the Top 25 when it's all said and done. It would be a wake up call to the Nation that Tad Boyle not only wins, but can recruit with the best of them. It would be one of the recruits that everyone is talking about come signing day and really brings a great PG to our program. Then we can have a Top 25 class and have no turnover as Tad continues to build our Power House Program.

I said happy, but the descriptor isn't really accurate. I would love to get both of them, but I'm not judging Tad on that. Both are great players that 5 years ago we could have only dreamed of landing.

Agree 100% with Hawaii. I didn't vote because I would be ecstatic if we land one, but of course I want both.

Do you innately like polls or do you choose to like polls? Because apparently, there is a debate.
