The Best Players

Well said NW. There is no easy way to resolve the situation. Either they stick with a guy who simply is not getting the job done or they admit they have been wrong for the better part of two seasons now. Not good.
I think the simple answer is if Cody throws 52 times, we are in a lot of ****ing trouble. He should not surpass 25 to 30. What is the guy? He is limited in ability so we cannot put the game on his shoulders, he simply dont have that kind of ability. To make it real simple, he is a piece of the puzzle. If we make him the whole puzzle like we have been, we are gonna get our ass kicked bad enough where something might have to be done.

There are not to sets of rules. If Hansen had kept his RS last year like he should of, Hawkins screwed the pouch on that one, then he would be available to come in for Cody this year. You have to factor this into the equation. I believe Hawkins wants Hansen starting for 3 years and so does Hansen. That is why the RS is so important, and it is also why they don't repeat last years mistake and pull his RS.

If Hansen starts the next three years, then Evans or Labato doesn't get three years. Someone is always going to get less time, so do what is best for the TEAM first.

If Tyler and his family are pushing him to RS this year, that is probably a tactical mistake IMO. Evans or someone else will start in the next three years over Hansen. Evans and Labato are better passers, and if they hire a new coach all promises are out the window.

To have a successful program you have to trust the recruiting and not hold onto players that can help your team now.

Don't forget Hirschman (even if he redshirts as a freshman as expected). There's got to be a showdown with some actual talent emerging at QB next year.

I keep hearing this wasn't Tyler's choice. If he was starting QB, he'd be fine with it. When he wasn't named starter, the coaches just didn't want to burn another year as backup to Cody with only occasional play. Redshirting next year would be way too late.
The coaches looked at their long-term plan and thought better to have Tyler for three years AFTER this one. Whether Hansen is the starter net year, or the year after Cody graduates, or none of the above, they wanted a strong QB competing for future years. Think what you want about the hotseat, Hawkins is coaching and recruiting as though his job is still secure (appropriate attitude, of course, as long as he's here.)
