    benson and bohn.

after all the program-killing moves made, a move to the p10 would completely re-energize the fan base. booster wallets will open. folks will care again.

look at all the threads on this subject on all the boards...

bohn and benson will come off looking like geniuses if they oversee a move. benson can talk about our academic alignment and research and not having to spend any tax $ on sports and all that stuff. bohn can talk about cultural fit and recruiting and financial independence and all that.

they'll buy themselves a ton of goodwill. and then when they do whack hawkins (which i think is inevitable), they'll have more ramp than they would otherwise have had without a move.

when politicians win if a certain course of action is taken, that course of action becomes much more probable.

if we get an invite and can work out the money issues (which i think can be done), i think this is going to happen. there will be what we call "deal momentum"-- when you are putting a big deal together and it gets on the rails, it is really hard to derail it because it takes on a life of its own. that will happen here, i predict.

now, we just need that invitation.

I think there is more willingness to make this move than there was in 1994, too. Back then, it didn't seem to have much support. Now I think there are a lot more people behind the move.

we were close before (it was a 5-4 regent vote to stay with the b12). fundamentally, the reason we didn't do it then was because the b12 was new and we'd made a commitment. now that we've seen how it worked out, it is a different ballgame.

I don't know if I want it to happen or not, I like the B12... but it would be nice to have the aura of a 'fresh start' in a new conference.

    adapt or perish.

with texas swinging its weight around, we can't sit still. if they leave the b12, the b12 is doomed as a major $ player. if the b12 becomes even more texas-centric, CU will get shafted.

we've got to protect ourselves if we want the program to remain in the bigs.

Question should be asked: With the potential money involved(new tv contract/network, etc.) don't we run the risk of the PAC 12 becoming to Cali-centric then? I know the history of it happening isn't there like it is with the Texas(Old SWC), but should be considered in all this.

The P10 is already Cali-centric. The addition of CU and UU would dilute some of that influence, IMO.

I'm honestly getting more and more into this idea every day. I think it would be great. I was dead set against it before, but I've been converted.

Since Hawk and his crew of Merry Men, has been burning the program to the ground, there would be nothing better than a FRESH start, once we start sifting through the rubble. The Big 8 is entirely different than the Big 12, with the Texas schools having the muscle these days. As long as we start scheduling our old rivals (NU,OU,MU,KSU) for OOC games, considering the state of the program, I am for it.

The only way I am with this idea is if there is a new conference Network. I am not sure that ratings would be as good as they are in Big 10 country but you could have some major TV markets with the new league. Below is a quick look at some of the markets encompassed with a realignment - I did not include areas outside of the top 100 like Eugene Oregon or areas like Albuquerque or Las Vegas. You would capture about 16 % of the nations TV households.

    Market TV Households %
    2 Los Angeles, CA 5,659,170 4.927
    6 San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose, CA 2,503,400 2.179
    12 Phoenix, AZ 1,873,930 1.631
    13 Seattle-Tacoma, WA 1,833,990 1.597
    16 Denver, CO 1,539,380 1.34
    20 Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto, CA 1,404,580 1.223
    22 Portland, OR 1,188,770 1.035
    28 San Diego, CA 1,073,390 0.934
    31 Salt Lake City, UT 944,060 0.822
    66 Tucson (Sierra Vista), AZ 465,100 0.405
    75 Spokane, WA 419,350 0.365
    92 Colorado Springs-Pueblo, CO 334,710 0.291

    Total 19,239,830 16.75

I live deep in the heart of dixie and a move to the Pac 10 will probably screw my ability to watch them as much as I can now but I really believe we need a shot in the arm and since outside of Colorado a huge chunk of the alumni base is west coast. Most of the Pac 10 bowl games are also played on the west coast so when we get rid of Hawkins and get back to being competitive again I think our bowl showings will improve due to the bowl game locations. Piss on the Fiesta let's go roses!!! :)

We weren't sick of the state of Texas dictating how things are run in the Big 12 back then. We are now...

Exactly. And CU can't wait until Texas makes a move to find the right fit for CU because there might not be one at that point. Gotta strike while the iron is hot.

In 1994 the decision was either joining the Pac 10 or forming the Big 12. CU made the right decision by not moving IMO, the Big 12 has been more lucrative to its members since then than the Pac 10 and CU had a decent run in the conference up until the last 4-5 years.

With a new Pac 10 tv deal on the horizon and the Big 12 looking vulnerable, now is the right time to make the move. I can only hope the regents make the right decision this time if the invite comes.

Maybe not. If they do establish a Pac-12 network, as has been rumored, all of the games for all of the schools would be shown each weekend, such as what the Big 10 network does for it's member schools now.

That would be awesome! No more crap tv packages hoping to see CU play. Hopefully, they do something like the BIG-10 and broadcast all the games in HD. PAC-10 FTW!
