The Future of Tournament Teams

ESPN has a great article/feature on all 68 NCAA tournament teams and seeing how they should do in the future going off of their recruiting from this season. It's a great read for everyone, but their part about CU is even more amazing.

11. Colorado Buffaloes

What they're losing:
Pac-12 tournament MVP Carlon Brown, who played his final season of eligibility with the Buffs after transferring from Utah, will be missed. He is a rugged wing who can bully his way to the basket and convert through contact. Tad Boyle also received a nice blue-collar effort all season from big man Austin Dufault, who was the Buffs' most consistent inside threat. Nate Tomlinson is a steady backcourt reserve who provided an excellent 3-1 assist-to-turnover ratio.

What they're adding:
Boyle and his staff put together one of the most talented and deep classes in the country, including an impressive frontcourt trio. Led by Josh Scott (Monument, Colo./Lewis-Palmer), the hometown hero has a chance to be newcomer of the year in the conference due to his skill level, athleticism and length. Fellow ESPNU 100 recruit Xavier Johnson (Temecula, Calif./Mater Dei) will provide face-up skills and a hunger for rebounding, while Wesley Gordon (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sierra) is a physical specimen with some raw tools. Combo-guard Xavier Talton (Sterling, Colo./Sterling) and Chris Jenkins (Detroit/Univ. of Detroit Jesuit) are sleepers who make this class truly special.

What it equals:
The Buffaloes made a tremendous run in the Pac-12 tournament to claim that elusive NCAA bid -- and the future looks even brighter. Behind the emergence of possibly the most talented player in the league next season in Andre Roberson, Boyle has a go-to scorer and a versatile defender as well a rebounding machine. In the backcourt, Spencer Dinwiddie, who was an All-Freshmen Team performer, will team with the quickest player on the team (Askia Booker) to give Boyle an exciting young backcourt. Shane Harris-Tunks (frontcourt) and Jeremy Adams (backcourt) will give the Buffaloes quality depth at their respective positions.

curious ..

what's csu's future look like ?

Solid for next year. They lose two rotation players, but their top 4 scorers return. Decent recruiting class too.

EDIT -- assuming Miles is back. If he's not, then they will drop a little bit -- even with their core returning.

ESPN:

11. Colorado State Rams

What they're losing:
The Rams will miss the rugged interior play of Will Bell, who grinds his opponents with his strength, while Kaipo Sabas provided solid point guard play off the bench for Tim Miles.

What they're adding:
Jermaine Morgan (Chicago/Whitney Young), an active and athletic power forward out of Chicago, should transition well into the Rams' system with his ability to fill the lane and finish. Meanwhile, Jordan Mason (Ennis, Texas/Ennis) is yet another talented perimeter player who will impact the program with his athleticism and ability to play both guard positions.

What it equals: Miles' fifth year at the helm became a major turning point with his program as the Rams earned an at-large berth into the tournament -- and next season should be even more exciting for Rams fans considering they return their four top scorers. All-MWC selection Wes Elkmeier put together a stellar junior campaign and should be one of the elite players in the conference next season due to his scoring prowess, while Dorian Green needs to continue to provide that outside stroke to keep defenses honest. He's a bit undersized, but Greg Smith plays with assertiveness and purpose, while Pierce Hornung is the glue guy who keeps the unit together with his competitive nature and savvy for the game.

I love the direction this program is heading and it's nice to see it recognized nationally. Recruiting should only improve with the recent success. I'd really like to see an early commitment or two from the 13 or 14 classes to get a little more hype around the Buffs on the AAU circuit. The future is bright!
