Not included, but I believe that I'm covered by the "Ped State Exemption" and am allowed to go by the team I cheered for as a child and which is now down the street from me without any double-fandom conflicts.

I'm in the "if your schools best kicker of all time is BCS you can pick the college you grew up rooting for."

I fall under the Free Agent rule. Still waiting for my signing bonus from CU .... or any of the other perks they promised during the free agency process. Hmmmmm.

mountain women are clever and ruthless. Whatever some CU chick promised you is likely to be nothing but smoke and mirrors. Glad to have you!

My father, who many of you have met, falls into the "I went to an Ivy" category. He's been a season ticket holder at CU since 1972 (or thereabouts, I don't know exactly), but he didn't go there. He went to Princeton. No chance in Hell that CU and Princeton will ever meet on the gridiron, so it's not too big of a deal there. However, CU *could* play Princeton in basketball. My Dad hates basketball, so again, no problemo.

Honestly, if CU played Princeton in football, he'd probably root for Princeton, knowing full well that there is no possible way they could win.

I didn't see an waiver that permitted fans to gain a commonlaw relationship after a period of time. But there should be.I

f you hold tickets for 40 years, you're in. No matter what. Especially when you consider the ups and downs your dad has witnessed in this particular circumstance.

This explains why so many CSewe people end up fans of the Fuskers, right?

Well according to this I am a legitimate duck fan..... Nice to have it confirmed I guess. Thank god the parents don't count otherwise I would be stuck as an asu fan.

I think I qualify for the “I was attempting to win an HDTV and wound up attending the University of Phoenix.” category. I await his ruling.

He forgot the Jon Embree exception: you coach at a school and your team plays a team on which your son plays, then you are allowed to root against your kid.

I thought it was stupid. He's telling me because I grew up in Boulder, but went to school elsewhere to experience the world, that I can't be a CU fan. It's typical Texa$ thinking, "you obviously only go to a school for the football team. What other reasons would there be?"

The fact that he is a Longhorn makes everything he says suspect and probably invalid.

Princeton is as bad of a football team as you will ever find. They are horrible.

CU can use all the support it can get so I'm not about to tell anybody they can't root for the Buffs, but I always thought it was a little lame to root for a school you didn't attend. That's what pro teams are for - they are all-inclusive.

I paid $20K+ in tuition and the first thing people see on my resume is that I'm a Buff. When some redneck who went to community college, but rocks a UT or 'Bama t-shirt tells me my team sucks it really rubs me the wrong way.

I worked with a guy in the early-90's who was a total prick. He grew up in Ohio, went to Kent State, and his dad was from Texas (not even sure it was Dallas). Anyone surprised he was a "die hard" OSU and Dallas Cowboys fan? Anytime he brought up either team I would rub his nose in the fact there was no reason for him to be tied to either one. We didn't get along very well.

I'm not going to say that this attitude is wrong. But I will say that it is an unusual thing that is somewhat particular to CU alums when compared to how fanbases are at other BCS programs. In case anyone wonders why there isn't more community involvement in the Buff Club or why the population of the state keeps increasing but the political support for the state universities keeps declining (while game attendance remains constant)... it's that sidewalk fans don't feel welcome at CU the way they would if they had moved to just about any other state or grew up in just about any other state and supported the local team. Beyond that, if a non-alum is more than a casual fan he/she often gets the looks and the questions as if they need to explain themselves. It's very weird and it hurts CU a lot. Plays into the "elitist" reputation.

Didn't go to CU, but my dad played football for CU and he was a former buff club president, and I've been going to games since I was old enough to walk. Missed 2 home games from 1988-2002

I get your point. In terms of my position with him, you missed the fact that he was a total a-hole - one of the top 5, maybe top 2, that I have met in my life. There is no doubt in my mind those teams were bandwagon selections. It was a simple item to grief him on that was difficult for him to defend.

    Gotcha.

My post was a "food for thought" ramble based on personal observations. Wasn't meant as an attack on anyone, so I hope it wasn't taken that way.

I don't think you need a substantial reason to be a fan of a team, maybe it's something as simple as the logo, mascot, or a game you happened to watch and simply became a fan because you liked how they played or the effort they put forward that particular day. But I do think that true fans need to be loyal to their teams. Once you're an adult you don't just "become" a fan of another team because if you're a true fan of one team, then you can't simply switch loyalty's. That's also why I have a problem with recent expansion teams, because their fanbases are fabricated for the most part.

You know what I ****ing hate? When I go on campus and I see undergrads walking around campus with UT, Oregon, USC, Oklahoma and all other manner of front-runner gear. THAT pisses me off. You're going to school at COLORADO - pull your head out of your ass
