I still think a halfway decent coach would do a lot better with the talent we have. Jimmybuff seems to think we have NO talent and this staff hasn't recruited well. Well, here is Barnett's last recruiting class of kids that had offers from other BCS schools compared to Hawks.

I think it is pretty apparent that hawk has brought some talent in here. We have the talent to be a consistent bowl and at least in the middle of the Big 12 team. Not saying we have Texas type talent, but enough to do a lot more than what we have. And yes I realize some of these kids are no longer here, these are just the kids that had offers from other BCS teams the last five classes. Bolded are listed on 2009 roster

I agree with you. This team is still short on talent but moreso it is not using the talent that it has. The playmakers are on the bench watching a bunch of D2 guys get overmatched play after play.

Hawk has landed 6 big time players.

    Scott
    Miller
    Givens
    Major
    Kasa
    Katoa

It takes more than 6 players to turn this around. The others are just regular guys that can be found at a lot of schools.

Recruiting is better but its not good enough.. and I believe its a ratio of 60 to 40 in whether the Top 100 kid will be a good player or one that doesn't make a huge impact.

Add into the fact that over 20 players that Hawk has recruited have either flunked out, got injured or didn't qualify also further hurts the talent base.

What do you want me to do, lie and say we have all this talent on the field?

Unleash, I'm sorry, I don't think we are that talented.

I did all that research and you can't tell me that 85% of those players I bolded that are on the team right now can't be a decent team with good coaching? I'm sorry, but there is some decent talent on this team. Enough to not be 1-3 with this schedule. This is a team talent wise that should be 3-1 and contending for the north this year. I'm telling you it's all in the coaching. Hell, CSU is doing a lot more than CU with far less talent!

    COACHING COACHING COACHING!!!

Gotta go with Leash on this one. I see a lot of quality programs including a bunch of top 25 teams on the offer list he has put together. You can argue about the players who are not still with us but that is a reality at virtually every program to one extent or another, most similar to us.

The problem is that the players who could make a difference are not on the field and those who are on the field are not being put into a position to make the plays that result in wins.

There's some talent on this team, no doubt. Should we be 1-3? Hell no. Has Hawk done a bad job this year in coaching? Hell yes.

Taking that all into account, it doesn't mean that we are that good.. I know you don't want to hear this, but a lot of their talent is young especially on the line of scrimmage (both sides of the ball). Games are won and lost there. We got beat up front in all 3 of our losses. Is it coaching, Is it talent or is it players not ready to perform at this level? I think its probably a little bit of all 3.

Yep, and right behind coaching, our biggest problem is QB play. If we had a QB that could see over the line, hit his WR's on target that are more than 30 yards downfield, and be mobile, this team would be a lot different too.

The problem with most of our talent is it's all potential at this point. We have a lot of that potential talent and with better coaching it could be nurtured and could flourish. I just don't think Hawk and his staff will get it done. That recent post about Blake Mackey getting benched for his entire senior year for unknown reasons really concerns me about Hawk. He simply is too hard headed to get his best players on the field. Whether it be them not going 110% in practice or whatever, find other ways to punish them, in games that we need to win we can't be teaching life lessons to players. Make them run more after practice or something.

We have just a small percentage of the talent that a UT, OU, USC or any other major program that annually contends for the title does.

We do have enough talent on the roster to be 4 - 0 right now however and that speaks to coaching and perhaps the scheme being played.

I see good players, too. The only thing your research can't take into account is the players who committed to CU early, and therefore didn't get additional offers. Or those whose recruitment was low profile (see DeVaughn Thornton, Forrest West.) I see a couple of other talented players on our roster who don't meet the BCS offer criteria.

    I remain hopeful.

Exactly. And those same players will get frustrated and transfer the hell out of here if Bohn does not step up and fix this problem. Quickly. And eveyone else will stay the hell away from here bacuase if it is that apparent to us, it is that apparent to every other college football recrutier for other schools. Like someone said earlier-- "CU-- where talent comes to die!"

I gotta agree with you on this one. We have pretty descent talent but the coaching staff just is not getting it done. I have never seen a staff that is so incapable of making adjustments within a game or on a week to week basis. There is no reason that with this teams talent, and our schedule, that we should not be at least 3-1. Losing to CSU and Toledo is completely unacceptable. And like you said teams like CSU are doing a LOT more with far less talent. In fact I believe we won a big 12 championship with arguably less talent than is on this team.

Bottom line is liked the spirit and optimism Hawk brought into this program 4 years ago. But he has shown he is not able to coach with the big boys. I for one am sick and tired of the excuses like this is a young team, or we are beat up right now.Time for a coach who can do something other than recruit high school talent.

That actually doesn't ever happen. Kids typically will wait thru a change rather than give up a year of eligibility and perhaps ride the pine somewhere else.

The reality is that the talent on this team is Soph, RS-F, and Freshmen and the Sr's and Jr's carrying the load are not very good beyond Geer, McKnight and the Red-Headed Hawaiian. Burton, Smith, Burney, Solder, 2 Browns, and a few walk'ons does NOT give us a reliable and experienced talent base.

We are missing the 5 upperclassmen that are bucking for all conference 1st, 2nd team honors. I expect in 2-3 years, you will see 7-8 upperclassmen who will be in that category. I see 1-2 right now.

QB is the most important position in college football. No QB, no wins.

    CU QB talent =

I think there is some talent on this team, but the talent gaps at QB and DL are evident with each passing week. Those are two areas you cannot afford to be lacking in talent/depth.

How will we know, as long as the Hawkins clan is in charge we will never see anyone other than Cody or a Hawk senior kiss-up. Hansen may not have the "mastery" of the offense like Cody but at least he has the talent to make something happen, it may be good it may be bad but at least it is not hold a place until someone runs us over like we have now.

I don't believe in throwing guys to the wolves but even Evans or Lobato would give us a better chance to win right now.

I agree with that, and I said that QB play is our second biggest problem behind coaching right now.

Agree that we don't fully know what we've got. I want to see Hansen play too and hope he succeeds, but he didn't receive any BCS offers and was not highly ranked out of high school. Jury is still out on Evans, but he could wind up at TE from early reviews (TE is where a lot of schools wanted him).

    Agreed.

Do I think we have the talent to compete for the Big 12? No. Do I think we have the talent to make a bowl game? Yes. Plenty of teams out there still have way more depth than we do, but getting 6 wins out of this group should not be impossible.
