The O/U on total catches from the TE group in 2014 is set at 27. Place your bets.

(The total in 2013 was 19)

Over. I think Keeney will get that many alone.

Over. Shouldn't be that hard even with a weak TE group.

    2012 SJSU receptions by position:

    Total: 336
    Wide Receiver: 229 (68%)
    Tight End: 57 (17%)
    Running Back: 50 (15%)

    2013 Buffs:

    Total: 235
    Wide Receiver: 183 (78%)
    Tight End: 19 (8%)
    Running Back*: 33 (14%)

*Sefo caught 1 and I put him in the RBs since he came out of the backfield.

Also, P-Rich caught 83 of the balls that went to the WRs. That's 35% of last year's total. Will 1/3 of those balls go to TEs in 2014 to get the ratios similar to what SJSU had in 2012? SJSU did have a damn good TE, so it's probably fair to cut the ratio down and say that the Lindgren/Mac offense is 70% WR, 15% TE and 15% RB.

If the Buffs can complete 300 passes this season, the numbers on that ratio would shake out as follows:

    WR: 210
    TE: 45
    RB: 45

I think that's going to be about the number. Ratio could go even higher for RBs and TEs, though, if Sefo doesn't have a ton of time to throw. He does like to spread the ball around, too.

Isn't that basically all dependent on Keeney being productive and staying healthy?

Mostly. Slavin and Irwin can't be projected beyond 25 combined. Offense is better off throwing to a RB or WR-H for the short stuff in almost all situations. Keeney is the guy who opens this up. But that said, it did appear that in the spring game our QBs were looking at the TEs a lot more than last year.

Of course Richardson's balls were almost always deep. Not sure if Sefo will have balls deep as often with tight ends, which actually sounds ironic from a certain context.

I also have no knowledge of whether Sefo will go balls deep with tight ends or how often.

Under. Until proven otherwise, our TEs are mediocre at best.

That number goes up to 40 if we include McCulloch. Or 28 if we split his receptions between TE and WR.

The split might be most representative, considering usage.

Is he really playing like a flex TE though? Just seems like an inside WR to me.Either way, graduating all but 7 catches from an already suspect position this year. Yikes.

We really need to recruit a TE ready to go next year. The position is ready for the taking
