There are some horrible teams in the PAC-12 this year, and Buff fans are going to get to see one of them this week. USC is just plain bad. These guys are one of the absolulte worst shooting teams in the nation. They are 321st in eFG%, they're 322nd in 3-point %, 286th in 2-point % and 330th in FT %. Plain and simple, they can't shoot. Which probably explains why their adjusted efficiency on offense is 292nd. And along with being absolutely horrid on offense, they are one of the slowest teams in the nation, coming in 335th in pace. So all in all, you can see why the Trojans are such a treat to watch. The one thing they do haev going for them is that they're phenomenal on defense. They're 44th in the nation in defensive efficiency and are SEVENTH in forced turnover percentage, so the Buffs are going to have to be careful with the ball. CU is right exactly on the national average for turnovers, so they're going to have to raise their game a bit against USC.

That said, USC lost -- at home -- to Arizona State 62-53. If CU doesn't get their first PAC-12 road win on Thursday night, we all need to be concerned and we will officially have pissed away all of the goodwill that the Arizona win has gotten us.

As for UCLA, I honestly have no idea what to expect. I've only seen them play a few games this season and I can't figure that team out at all. Statistically, they're a great offensive team -- 38th in the nation at offensive efficiency, so the new and improved Buffs defense will be tested on Saturday afternoon. If the game were in the Keg, I'd be convinced the Buffs were going 2-0 this week, but being on the road -- even the quasi-road environment that UCLA has this year -- scares me. If the Buffs are going to get the 20 wins that some of you are hoping for, getting these two games will be a huge step in that direction.

After a disappointing loss to ASU, the women's team rebounded with a great win over Arizona yesterday. USC comes to town on Thursday night and it's going to be a tough battle. The Trojans are 21st in RPI with a 10-7 record. While that doesn't sound great, those seven losses are mostly against great teams. Notre Dame, Georgia, Texas A&M and Stanford are some of the premier teams that USC has taken on this year. The only thing that really causes your eyebrows to raise is their loss at Arkansas State in what I'm assuming was a bit of a fluke game. UCLA isn't as impressive as USC this year, coming in ranked at 68th in RPI right now, but they're still a quality team. All of that said, RealTimeRPI.com has the Buffs projected to go 2-0 this week. If Lappe's crew can do that, it would go a long way towards making a case for the tourney.

Carlon had a huge game against 'Zona, but was nonexistent against ASU. In terms of the whole week, think Dufault is the right choice. Nice week for him. He's really stepping up for us

    USC: 0-7 Pac12
    -@ Cal: -L- 53-49
    -@ Stanford: -L- 51-43
    - Arizona St: -L- 62-53
    - Arizona: -L- 57-46
    - UCLA: -L- 67-46
    -@ Oregon: -L- 65-62
    -@ Oregon St: -L- 78-59

These guys are obviously hungry to get their first Pac12 win. Let's make sure that comes against Utah, not us. They have terrible attendance even when they're halfway decent, so hopefully a decent contingent of Buffs can practically make the place a neutral court. They've only won once since November (83-59 over TCU on Dec. 19). All that said, as their results at Cal and Oregon indicate, they play tough defense, make games ugly, and bring teams down to their level. We're likely going to have to grind this one out and break them in the second half.

I voted Carlon. Don't discount his defense against ASU.

Lots of guys were worthy, though.

Huge week for both our squads. Men need to break through on the road and the women need to establish home court in the conference.

We'll know so much more about where these teams are by the end of the weekend.

P.S. Thanks, Goose. This is one of the best threads we have. I look forward to it every week. This week, I'm loving the efficiency stats. When looked at in relation to our SOS, it's easy to argue that we're a pretty good team.

I would not poo-pah USC. With the exception of Oregon St & UCLA, USC has kept its conference games close, including on the road @ Cal & Stanford.

That's because they keep games in the 50s. We're going to have to rebound well and avoid turnovers. If we do that, we should be fine.

Can't wait for the Pac12 Network. Not having our road games televised on channels we can actually get is total crap.
I went with Austin as POW. He has really elevated his game. I didn't know he had this kind of game in him, but he's playing extremely well right now.

I will be VERY disappointed with an 0-2 record this week.

On the women's side, defense wins and our defense is tough. At home, this team should go 2-0.

The only way CU loses is if they don't take care of the ball, they just came off their lowest TO game of the year (6) so lets hope that they are trending downward in that dept. Unfortunately as Goose pointed out above USC is 7th in the nation in forced to%.

The Buffs just opened as 2.5 point UNDERDOGS @ USC. I get that it is tough to win on the road in conf, but that just seems like a bad line.

Wow. Expected CU would be favored by a few.

Looks like Vegas put out a bad line, game is already down to pickem. Which is MUCH more believable than USC being favored.
