"The biggest thing he brings is energy," Hansen said. "He`s always talking. He`s always talking trash. He`s always in your face. He always wants to win.

"We have competitions after our runs and he`s always in there. He always wants to win, and he pretty much always does win. And he talks after. He taunts the guy he beats. He just brings this energy level that we`ve missed the past couple years. Hebrings a sort of swagger that we`ve needed."

The coaching staff`s "off the mountain tops and out of the valley" philosophy translated to a perfect flat line at times in 2009. It must be avoided this year.

"I want to develop a type of aura and swagger, understanding that we`ve got to win," Clemons said. "There is no more ifs. There were a lot of ifs, like, if we win this game, if we do that. It`s when we do that. ... I want the younger guys to understand that we have to create an identity, not find one, and put Colorado back on the map."

Clemons said he has watched the great Colorado teams of the past on film and he noticed several common denominators.

"They knew who they were and they knew what they were playing for and they went out there and did it," he said. "As a team, we`ve got to find that and I think we made a lot of progress with that in the workouts. It`s a different atmosphere. Guys are more excited. They`re more confident in their abilities and they trust themselves and the staff and their teammates a lot more than they did in the summertime."

I think I have a man crush on Toney now. That article made my morning.

Just read that article...This is exactly what the team needs. A vocal leader that will hold other players accountable for their mistakes. Hopefully his swagger rubs off on other players.

great. one player wants to develop a "swagger" the great CU teams had. not the coaches.

Agreed HF. Intensity is something I haven't seen out of our team or coaches in a long time.

Reminds me of Vickers running over guys in practice and then getting in their face "This is the Big 12!"

If they want to bring back the swagger they need to start hitting people and hard, within the rules of course.

    "They called us names!"

Man, I'm trying to think of someone that played with attitude since Vickers and sadly my mind is blank. Bad Thad? Although he was pretty much the same time frame as LV. Under Hawk I can't think of one. Guys like Miller and Givens have it in them but it seems like it's been subdued out of them.

Well Dizon did. He was an intense beast. Since he left, our defense has been pretty soft.

With that kind of attitude, Mr. Clemons can expect to be on the bench a lot this year.

Dizon was intense and an ass kicker but he was not an in your face, pump up the rest of the team with a fiery speech kind of guy. We've been sorely lacking in that department under Hawkins

I'm talking Tyler Brayton, Chris Naole, Lawrence Vickers types.

The guys on Neu's team had a TON of swagger

Walters had the fire, but I completely agree: The "**** 'em up" attitude is missing.

Ah, true. A great player who gets pissed off and gets the team pissed off and inspires great things. A day to dream of.

I remember seeing him on the sideline last year jumping around after a good play, this kid has a lot of emotion.

Hawkins will turn Mr. Clemons into a wusburger like he did Darrel Scott. The Zen man lives in a valley on the coast and has not seen the mountain tops.

I agree, after the kid makes a spectacular play, I'm sure he'll be replaced with Ebner or Hamm as they are TRUE Hawk red-zone threats.
