    Ryan Koenigsberg

Well folks, we are officially two weeks out of fall camp (which should be called summer camp *frog emoji* *tea emoji*) and I, for one, am ready to start talking about it. This will be the Buffs third camp under head coach Mike MacIntyre, and it’s no secret that there is plenty of pressure [...]

[h=1]#5 – All aboard the Devin Ross hype train?[/h][h=1]#4 – How many Jay Mac questions does Mike Mac field?[/h][h=1]#3 – Anti QB competition[/h][h=1]#2 – Special? Teams[/h][h=1]#1 – Gillam, Gillam, Gilliam[/h]Well done by Ryan. It's supposed to be fun. It's sports for crissakes. Too many sportswriters don't get that. (And too many of those who do become more sarcastic & bitter than good-natured as they get older.)

Anyway - do we like the list?

Still think the biggest question is what defense will we run, but we might not find that out until the first game.

I sure as hell wouldn't release that info during camp. In fact, I'd show nothing except last year's defensive formations in the open practices.

May the post 2015 season look back on the kicking game, be special, in a good way. Must have success to rise in conference play.

At the very least, it lights a fire under the ass of the other competing receivers.

Ross has game changing speed. If he has put it together, he's a weapon that changes the CU offense.

Instantly becomes the home run threat that we are lacking on offense right now.

Thanks Nik! I have the greatest job in the world IMO, no way I couldn't have fun, and nothing makes it more fun than when you guys are reading and commenting, even if you are disagreeing IE: Most important player.

Going back to the list, I tried to keep it to things that we can possibly learn in camp. It's a really fine line, but in my opinion we can't really learn if the running game is rolling or how the defense looks, as well as we can learn that Devin Ross is pushing for a starting role or that Addison Gillam is looking healthy.

Not sure if that makes sense to anyone, but I think there are certain things we simply won't know until they take the field against Hawaii... and to be honest, depending on what the policy will be for media, and how transparent the coaches are, we may not even learn all of this.

I will believe there is good news on Gillam when he plays a full game. I have my doubts I will get it.

Based on information? Or just your usual "glass half empty" disposition?

He didn't play a full game last season and everything we have heard to this point is unconfirmed rumors. Darth is right in his hesitation.

The upside, though, is as big of a tipping point as RK is saying. If I knew right now that in 2015 Gillam would be a bigger, stronger, smarter version of his 2013 self playing in a defense designed to suit his strengths... my prognosis for CU's 2015 defensive performance goes to a whole other level.

Pair that with a crystal ball which tells me that Tedric is going to be improved and healthy for all 13 games... we start looking pretty damn good on the defensive side of the ball.

6 weeks until kickoff. So many big questions. And a ray of hope that the pieces are in place for the Buffs to be a program that shocks the college football world if those pieces fall into place.

That's fine, but he doesn't have a injury history, just bad luck last year. The kid is at 225-230 now, a far cry from the 200 at best he was during the season last year and his concussions were a result of being so much smaller.

He does have an injury history, as evidenced by multiple concussions. If he has another one, he could be done.

And with him adding 30lbs or so his injury risk is significantly reduced. EVERY player is one hit away from being done.

What does size have to do with concussions? Serious question

Technique and predisposition to concussions due to prior concussions have a far greater bearing than 30 additional pounds. Will he change his technique to limit exposure? Hopefully.

The fact is, he was a 200lb MLB playing in the Pac 12 against grown ass men. You are going to face a much higher injury rate at that weight compared to your peers. Yes he has had them before, but as far as anyone knows, he is completely healthy and I'm not going to sit here and predict a kid get injured when he was just fine his freshman year when he was at a much more acceptable weight than in 2014.

Weight won't have anything to do with his likelihood of getting another concussion or not and the fact that he's had 2 already, increases his chances of another. Technique is truly the only thing that will help reduce the risk.

With that said, I highly doubt that the doctors have told him that he is playing under the caveat that "if he gets another concussion this year, he's done", so let's not get carried away with decided the kid's future for him.

I assume Gillam is 100% by the season opener and will be a force in the middle. Whether or not he makes it through an entire season is a crap shoot, just like it is with Thompson, Crawley, Spruce, Powell, or anyone else on the team.

Bodily injury rate yes, concussion rate doubtful.

It's where tini packs on all his muscle mass.

Only thing I can think that would support Tini's assertion is that at a larger size, Gillam will be the one dishing the punishment not taking it. That should help reduce concussions I would think.

That being said, that argument is a huge stretch. A predisposition to concussions backed by a history of concussions means gillam is at a higher risk for concussions.

Fields is a home run threat. He needs to be a little more aggressive when going after footballs in the air, but when the pass hits him in stride, he scores.

I have no science to back this up, but I'm actually going to side with Tini on this one. Being bigger and stronger will give AG the ability to bring down a runner a lot easier with proper technique and he won't be lowering his head or propelling himself quite as much to ensure the tackle. That's my logic anyway.

How is it a huge stretch? Yes he had a concussion or two last season, but he was just fine his Freshman year. I'm not denying that a person who has gotten a concussion is more likely to get another in the future, because that's true, but you're gonna have trouble convincing me that his weight gain isn't going to lower his injury risks, from concussions to other bodily injuries. Gillam's pre-season sickness was more harmful than anything last year.

Yep, pretty much my thought process. I've been trying to find some research studies on the relation between mass and concussion rates in football, but the science there appears to be pretty weak at this point.
