Just bumping this thread since the Preliminaries (previously and AKA called Regionals) start tomorrow.

Looks like the live stream is scheduled to start ~3:15 PM MT (3:45 and 4:45, respectively, on Friday and Saturday), and the link in the original post does now have a link directly to the streaming page- http://www.texassports.com/watch/?Live=278 . Note- Looks like they've changed start times for streaming, so I corrected here.

Note- the stream must start with some preview, warm-ups and then field events, as the 1st track event isn't scheduled to start until 3:30 PM MT. Also, there's been quite a bit of weather in and around Austin, so don't know if there will be any delays.

Trying to eyeball Thursday's events and which ones Buffs are participating in (Times converted to Mountain Time; assuming no scratches)-

4:30 PM- Women's 1,500 meters 1st round (4 heats- top 5 from each heat plus next 4 times advance to one of Saturday's 2 races, from which the top 5 finishers of each race plus 2 other fastest times advance to Nationals)- Sara Sutherland (Heat 1) and Maddie Alm (Heat 1)

5:00 PM- Men's 1,500 meters 1st round (4 heats- top 5 from each heat plus next 4 times advance to one of Saturday's 2 races, from which the top 5 finishers of each race plus 2 other fastest times advance to Nationals)- Ben Saarel (Heat 2), Jake Hurysz (Heat 3) and Zach Perrin (Heat 3)

5:00 PM- Women's Long Jump (Advance top 12 placers from final to Eugene)- Abrianna Torres (Flight 3 of 4)

6:20 PM- Women's 400 meter (6 Heats- Advance top 3 from each heat plus next 6 times to Friday's three (???) races, from which 3 from each of 3 races, plus next best 3 times, advance to Nationals)- Lindsy Mattson (Heat 4 of 6)

8:00 PM- Women's 10,000 Meters (1 Heat- Top 12 finishers advance to NCAA Nationals)- Annie Kelly, Mackenzie Caldwell

8:40 PM- Men's 10,000 Meters (1 Heat- Top 12 finishers advance to NCAA Nationals)- Ammar Moussa, Pierce Murphy

Go Buffs!

Article on yesterday's 1st day's results- http://www.cubuffs.com//ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=600&ATCLID=210114618 .

Highlights for the Buffs-

"
AUSTIN, Texas – University of Colorado junior Pierce Murphy punched his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships after placing seventh overall in the 10,000-meter run on Thursday night at the NCAA West Preliminary Round.
...
Murphy was the only Buff who advanced to nationals on Thursday, but the Buffs had a great deal of success in the 1,500 earlier in the day, qualifying several for the quarterfinals on Saturday. The women’s 1,500 saw senior Sara Sutherland and junior Maddie Alm moving on to Saturday’s races. Sutherland won the first heat in 4:27.71, while Alm placed second with a time of 4:28.02. Sutherland and Alm were 1-2 for most of the race before Alm dropped back to sixth. Alm was able to make a big move on the outside with about 200 meter remaining to earn her runner-up finish behind her teammate.

Sophomore Ben Saarel also moved on to the 1,500 quarterfinals on Saturday after finishing fourth in the second heat, clocking in at 3:45.04. Saarel went straight to the lead from the gun and held that spot until the final lap when he dropped to fourth. He was able to hold on and finished strong to automatically advance.

Senior Jake Hurysz also advanced in the 1,500, but he did it on time as he clocked a 3:48.54 mark, which was seventh in the third heat. Hurysz had to wait for the fourth heat to finish to find out his fate as he had the final qualifying time after his heat, but the fourth heat ended up being the slowest as Cristian Soratos (Montana State) picked up the win in 3:49.81 for an automatic qualifying position, securing Hurysz a spot in the quarterfinals.

Looks like neither Buff that competed today so far (Jaron Thomas in the 110 meter hurdles or Alex Kizirian in the Hammer throw) in the NCAA Prelims have advanced.

Eyeballing upcoming races (all times converted to Mountain Time), it looks like for the Buffs:

Frosh Ana Holland will be in heat 2 of the 200 meter which is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM,

Freshmen Erin Clark and Val Constien are both in heat 1 of the women's steeplechase scheduled to start at 7:50 PM and

Finally, tonight at 8:30 MT is the start of the Men's steeplechase heats, with junior Connor Winter in Heat 1, while senior Blake Theroux and frosh Adam Peterman are in Heat 3.

Also, wanted to mention there's also an opportunity for track fans to see future and past Buffs at the Prefontaine Classic being held tonight and tomorrow afternoon:

1) Tonight's races can be seen via free live stream starting at 9:00 MT at http://live.usatf.tv/livefripre.html . Incoming Buff Danielle (or Dani) Jones, one of the top women's high school milers in the country, is in the "Girls High School Elite Mile" that is scheduled to start at 9:40 MT. (Full schedule of today's and tomorrow's races available at http://preclassic.runnerspace.com/eprofile.php?do=title&title_id=251&event_id=120 .)

Tomorrow's races are on either NBC Sports Net or NBC, with NBC televising from 2:30 - 4:00 MT. One of the meet's last races tomorrow is the Women's 1500 Meter run, scheduled to start at 3:40 PM MT. Former Buffs Jenny (Barringer) Simpson and Emma Coburn are both entered in that race, a distance in which Ms. Simpson is the defending Diamond League (International) Champion. (There is no women's steeplechase in this meet, which is why I assume Ms. Coburn is racing the 1500M rather than her signature event.)

Looks like the Buffs have their 2nd runner who has officially advanced to the NCAA championships, as freshman Erin Clark sets I believe another PR in breaking the 10 minute barrier in the steeplechase, extra impressive given the Austin weather coniditions (~80 degrees/ ~75% humidity). Ms. Clark finished 4th in her heat (top 3 automatically advanced), but easily advanced on time in recording the 6th best overall time among the 3 heats.

Congrats to Ms. Clark!

(Ms. Clark is also qualified for and listed as a starter in tomorrow's 5K. Given her youth, the relatively tough weather, and the fact she's now qualified for the steeple, it will be interesting to see if she does still race tomorrow.)

Very very good race for incoming Buff Danielle Jones, as she's just inched out by a few inches and earns a 2nd place finish against a premiere field in just under 4 minutes 40 seconds. Congrats to her!

"
AUSTIN, Texas – University of Colorado runners Erin Clark and Connor Winter each earned a trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Friday night at the NCAA West Preliminary Round.

Winter, a junior, earned his spot at nationals after finishing second in the first heat of the steeplechase to take one of the three automatic qualifying positions. He clocked in at 8:49.88, just behind heat winner Stanley Kebenei (Arkansas) who finished in 8:49.57.

...

Clark became the fourth Buff to ever finish the women’s steeplechase in less than 10 minutes after clocking a 9:59.67 for a personal best in the first heat. She had to wait for her fate since she didn’t finish in the top three of her heat (fourth), but Clark’s time was the fastest of the time qualifiers, sending her to her hometown of Eugene, Ore. in two weeks for nationals.

AUSTIN, Texas – On the final day of the NCAA West Preliminary Round, senior Sara Sutherland (1,500), sophomore Ben Saarel (1,500) and junior Morgan Pearson (5,000) punched their tickets to compete for the Buffaloes at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

The University of Colorado now has a total of seven athletes who will compete at nationals, June 10-13, in Eugene, Ore. Saturday’s qualifiers join redshirt freshman Erin Clark (3,000-meter steeplechase), junior Pierce Murphy (10,000) and junior Connor Winter (3,000-meter steeplechase), who qualified for NCAAs earlier this week, as well as junior Abrianna Torres who will compete in the heptathlon.

Good luck at NCAA's in a couple weeks or so to the seven who qualified!

I wonder what kind of impact having a great indoor track will have on the track and field program. Now we can appeal to all disciplines instead of just distance runners.
