One of the comments is hilarious:

"When I was a little kid, I liked loading the mess in my room into one big pile because it made it easier to sweep under the bed."

The implication, for those of you who are implication impaired, is that the NCAA is doing this so that it can find no fault with one case, as opposed to two.

Srsly - Reggie Bush has been gone from USC for what, 4 years? This is ridiculous. If the NCAA were serious about this, it would have happened a long time ago. They figure that the more time that passes, the less the outrage will be once they sweep it under the rug. USC is one of the darlings of the NCAA. Nothing is going to happen to them.

Mark my words USC will have to forfeit all the games both played in and will loose a schollie in B-ball and 2 in football watch out below...

So yeah basically nothing will come of this.

Yeah, and the two schollies that they lose will come off their yearly allowance, not their total 85 limit. So in one year, they'll have to take 23 5* blue chip players instead of 25.

As much as I'd LOVE to see the "lack of institutional control" label slapped on them, it ain't gonna happen. The Nuggets have a better chance of winning the NBA championship.

Nothing of substance will happen to USC. Just like Ohio State and OU before them, they will skate by with a slap on the wrist, if even that.

USC should be thankful they didn't charge the wrong price for lunch for the players! **** would have hit the fan.

Maybe because other than having goof ball, low life for parents, Reggie and especially USC were not involved.

I seriously doubt Pete Carroll would put the entire program in jepordy because of them.

They were working the angles...it had nothing to do with USC.

And that's the reason nothing has come of it...because they can't put together a case against the program.

    Who cares? Move on.

    Who cares? :wow:

How about every other school who gets shat on by the NCAA on a regular basis. Holy moley, you think Petey had NO IDEA this was going on right under his nose with his star player? You think Bush didn't know his PARENTS were living in a house they couldn't afford? :bs:

If SC gets away with this one, wait until they start recruiting after that. There players will have to take a pay cut and suffer a lower lifestyle when they reach the NFL or any other professional career.

USC is a private school and can legally stonewall the NCAA for a long, long time.

    Nothing will happen.

I don't understand that - since when does the NCAA put up with "legality?" They have been granted monopoly status and do pretty much what they want. They could demand information and punish USC if they don't get it in a timely manner, if they had the will.

Maybe they don't have the will...maybe they just don't care. Maybe they can't put all the stuff together to make a case against anyone.

Again, Pete Carroll is not going down to everyone's hometown, like San Diego, and monitor what a player's parents are doing in their personal lives. He monitors what's going on at USC. Just like I doubt Hawkins is tripping down to one of his players hometowns and hiring P.I.'s to keep track of the parents daily lives. That's ridiculous!

As long as there are no ties of wrongdoing to the school or program, nothing will or should come of it.

Gate, come on now. How many schools have been punished when "boosters" give "benefits" to players and the school knew nothing? It has happened many times. The NCAA calls it "lack of institutional control."

Thats sort of the point. This isn't a case of boosters giving Reggie Bush stuff, this is a case of an agent giving Reggie stuff to get him as a client. They still deserve to forfeit their wins and the heisman, because technically Bush was ineligible, but there is no way Carroll can control his players to that extent. Boosters you can hold the school responsible for, because punishing the school deters (in theory) the boosters. That is, if the NCAA ever punished schools for booster misconduct, which they don't. (case in point:Oklahoma)

But guys outside the program with their own agendas that have nothing to do with the school? Nothing is going to deter them, and the school really can't do much to keep track of the private finances of the families of 85 players.

That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if USC boosters ARE giving plenty of guys condos to live in, cars, etc. But thats not what's being alleged in the Bush case.

Ummm.... remember when SMU used to have a top notch football program? They got the death penalty due to booster actions, which would fit your criteria for "no ties." That's just absurd.

    Nope...didn't follow that.

I'm a home grown USC fan and it bugs me that Reggie's folks were such dumbasses and maybe Reggie knew more than he says and if they go after him and take away his Heisman and even if they take away titles from SC, I still don't believe there will be a death penalty for SC and I still don't believe Pete Carroll was expected to police the Bush family while they did their stupid **** down in San Diego...a 100 miles away from campus.

I think you're missing the point of "lack of institutional control". It's the schools job to know that this kind of thing is going on. It's their responsibility to monitor it and are ultimately responsible when it does.

I'm not aware of an NCAA time limit. But you're right, the NCAA will do nothing, and I think they've as much as said they'll never institute the death penalty again. Also, as obvious as this violation is, it's nowhere near the blatant booster payoffs that led to SMU's demise.
