no doubt bout it: Mayor is the super star.
Love the swagger.
That was pretty cool.
that was freakin awesome. Is it november yet?
Wow. ummm, yeah. that's.... uh... awesome.
Everybody knows I'm the eternal skeptic, but make no mistake, Colorado is going to crash the national scene this year and establish the program as a perennial powerhouse. Welcome to the party folks, we've arrived.
That is just freaking awesome! The video team up in Boulder is one of the best. Basketball is just going to be so much damn fun!
I think we arrived when we won the PAC tourney 2 years ago.
Locally we did, but nobody nationally really cared that much. I think we are going national as a respected program after this year.
Do you think Wisconsin is nationally recognized?
We're on the verge. Many fans from outside the Pac are taking notice (albeit from a distance) of Colorado's ascendance.
The Pac-12 Tournament Championship was great for CU, but don't think nationally there was a perception that CU arrived. Winning regular season championships and/or going on deep runs in the NCAA tournament are what ultimately change people's perception about a program. As most know, the tournament is a bit of a crap shoot, in that it somewhat depends on your draw... plus anything can really happen in a single elimination tournament.
You mean like shutting down a couple NBA 1st rd picks only to have some Canadian douche rain a half dozen 3 pointers on you?
Kinda over that game, but it is a good example of what can happen. Obviously that was a game that could have went either way, until the last 4-5 minutes of the game or so. I meant more a team that is favored, playing against a mid-major that has nothing to lose. Hard to find a University, no matter how successful they have been, that hasn't been victimized by Cinderella.
Ok, I'm officially pumped. That's also the best use of the Chen AZ buzzer beater video yet, that really drove the vengeance point home.
would be cool to see C-Unit give a loud ass "SHALL WE BEGIN!" at the begining of the games this season.
yes. I love it. Unique and could be intimidating if done properly.
So glad you guys liked the video, and can only hope you are as fired up as I am for what lies ahead! THE FIRE RISES my friends! Follow me on Twitter @RealMatSmith (https://twitter.com/RealMatSmith) Voice of the Colorado Buffaloes for KVCU.

welcome to the site
Roll a great highlight video right before tip off. Have a leader down there in the student section count it off and the student section yell "now, shall we begin" right before tipoff. Would be awesome. Would be kind of cool to have the midnight madness event serve as a cheer session, teach the student section the cheers and all that. Similar to the aTm midnight yell before football games.
I'm skeptical. The voice is the video is so cool. It probably wouldn't sound right coming from a student or a bunch of students yelling at once.
True. Its from the the newest Star Trek, Kahn says it before he attacks the Enterprise just for reference. I think it could sound good if the student section bought into it. But it has the potential to sound cheesy if done wrong
I like the idea of teaching students & fans new cheers at Midnight Madness. That is the way to integrate new cheers and fan interaction. I have been thinking of great ways to pump up the crowd and have some great ideas. We need a more explosive atmosphere at Coors. I can't tell you how many times last year I was broadcasting the games and kept thinking, WHY ISN'T THIS CROWD HYPED?! At many other schools around the country they have a Hype Man for basketball games. For example, Cal has a great crowd at the Haas Pavilion because they are constantly interacting with fans. They have 4 Hype Men to face each side of the crowd. It works so well despite the fact that the cheers are pathetic. From the court, during timeouts, one guy will point to his side of the crowd and they yell "C", the next guy points to his side and yells "A" then the next guy points to his side and the crowd yells "L" and they start slow and speed it up to the point where C-A-L is spelled faster and faster. In my opinion the cheer itself is beyond stupid because it's so basic, but it works and really gets the crowd hyped. CU needs Hype Men! I am going to do my best to bring this to the attention of the Athletic Department because that alone will drastically improve the atmosphere at Coors.
We also desperately need a more energizing intro to games. I think it would be great if we could add flair to the beginning of basketball games. If we could dim the lights and shine a spotlight on the tunnel before CU ran out that would get the crowd pumped. If a hype man started the "I Believe That We Will Win" Chant either right before they ran out or right before tip off the crowd would get really into it. I have a lot more ideas and would love for the fan base to contribute.
It would also be great if CU could run a set play at the beginning of games sending XJ to the basket for a throwdown. Get the crowd involved EARLY, not just from the fans but the players as well...knowing Tad, that's a bit of a long shot though
Should we start a thread for ideas?
Am I the only one that found the "LIE STILL." chant at the beginning of games last year inappropriate?
Hahaha I never heard that one lol. Then again I was in the band and unable to hear the students most of the time.
Mat Smith, I agree about the hype men/student section leaders. The cheer leaders should be responsible for that, but they do a poor job most nights. I disagree about the "I believe that we will win" chant. I love the chant, but I want something that is 100% CU. We are getting recognized as one of the top student sections in the nation, and we need something that is intimidating and unique. For example "The Show" at SDSU, started signing Uprising by Muse at their games. It appropriate, its unique, and its intimidating with their huge crowd. We need something that is immediately recognizable as the C-Unit.
They need to stop the C-O-L-O-R-A-D-O cheer. It is way too long and nobody gets into it.
We need to make this happen.
I'm sorry, but what???? How could you possibly think the crowds in Coors have been lacking energy?
The student section already has organized cheers. But I don't know, maybe it's easier to do things like that at Cal where the games are all half empty.
