    Yo fellow Allbuffers,

I'm asking for the opinions of those who have already been to a road game in Omaha because I am hoping to buy tix for the NU game soon. Is it a bad idea to sit with the bugeaters or is it imperative to sit in the CU allotment section (from cubuffs.com and how good is the seating for these tix?)? I'm rather tempted to stand out in Gold in a sea of red but I'm just not so sure about the "classiness" of the fans. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

First of all it's in Lincoln, not Omaha.

I have been to a lot of games in Lincoln, but have not been since 2000. We have always sat in the visitors section. I think any college football fan should experience a gam in Memorial stadium at least once. Even though I hate Nebraska, they do know how to throw a college football party.
You have to experience Misty's the night before the game, the band comes through there and the fans get crazy. On gameday, it really is a sea of red, it's pretty amazing. The tunnel walk (while not as good of an entrance as Ralphie), is a good entrance.
As far as the fans, it just depends. Just like any fan base, I have seen some bad behavior (1992 was the worst year I have seen there). I still think Nu fans are a little overatted as being the "best" fans. Maybe best by loyalty, but not best by behavior. However, I have been approached and told good game after a heartbreaking loss. In '96, the sker fans felt lucky and told us how impressed they were of Koy Detmer.
Now, I haven't been there since the huskers fell to mediocrity, so I don't know how the fans there act now. I do think you should experience it if you haven't though.

My bad. My aunt lives in Omaha and I was going to stay there and then drive to Lincoln for the game. Should have made that clear.

Bring your binoculars, Lincoln is a long way from Omaha....:smile2:

Seriously, we sat with the Bugeaters and had no probs. I was with about five other fairly good size guys though.

I did see a crowd of niblet fans shred a little girl's teddy bear and then pee on it because she was wearing CU gear. They were restraining her grandfather and jabbing him with a cattle prod in his WWII scarred leg. Her wheelchair bound grandmother was having her oxygen tank vandalized as the corn fans verbally berated her with every four-letter word known to man, past, present and future. They also stole her dad's wallet, drove to Boulder that night and stomped her newborn kittens to death after drinking milk straight from the carton. Of course, Lincoln's finest and those classy fans stood by and watched without lifting a dirty fingernailed pinky to help.

It's all true, at least everything before the third paragraph.

oh and in '94 husker fans were very nervous before the game. They thought Colorado would come in and beat them.:sad2:

Most fans are okay (just like in Boulder). Actually had some good experiences tailgating with the Husker faithful. Most are just good football fans, and they do know their football, skewed may their views be.

Stay away from the student section, though. (I'd give the same advice to anyone visiting Folsom!).

Dang! That's some good 'ole creative writing there. Props!

That being said, I believe every word of it and I'll do my best to make sure that every last husker fan knows how I feel about them because of it!

When I go I sit with the 'skers fans they are decent if you are away form the student section; they are an arrogant bunch though. I have one guy ask me if I was a QB or something in high school becuase normal Colorado fans don't know **** about the game.

Best advice I can give is to sit with the CU folks. You'll have a better time, IMO, then if you are constantly worrying about pissing off some 150 year old farmers wife from Chadron.

There's nothing quite like seeing the red-clad inbreds leaving their stadium with 5 minutes to go in the game, muttering to themselves about how the refs jobbed them again.

Come on. We all it doesn't matter. Lincoln, Omaha, whatever.... If it's in Nebraska it sucks.

The view from the visitor's corner of the stadium rather sucks. And it's not really a visitor's section, either. It's more like a thin sliver of black and gold going from the bottom row up to the top, like a wedge on a dart board. It makes coordinating the fight song or a unified chant of 'We don't live in Lincoln' pretty tough to pull off (but not impossible). Chances are that you'll be pretty close to kNu fans even in the visitor section. And because the stadium sells out, it's tough to mill about with other CU fans during the game anyway.

I've never sat anywhere near the 50 yard line at Memorial, but I wouldn't hesitate to do so, provided I was next to a buddy or 3. Do it just for the sight lines. My memory of the visitor's section was that it was really hard to tell if a play went 3 yards or 15.

It's like going to another planet, everyone mills about in their polyester red before the game not really doing anything or else they are tailgating under their scenic highway overpasses. Concrete ****hole. and **** the god damn fans, i dont want someone saying good game, you have a nice little team, thats ****in wierd. I'd prefer a little **** talk, not someone acting like a red drone. they can take their forced kindness and shove it up their asses along with all the corn thats already up there

Well if I was going to the Colorado game this season I would definatey meet up with ya and show you around. Just like any fanbase there are always a-holes around. I have never seen any crazy behavior at any game I've been to and the visiting fans have always been treated well around the places I've been sitting. You can sit anywhere and most people will be decent to you. I would probably stay away from the student section or they will probably talk smack to you, but I've never seen anyone become violent at the game. The student section sits in the southeast corner of the endzone just so you know. If you want a good view of the big screen then find a seat in the south endzone because that is where I always try and sit. Have a good time and let me know what you think when you get back. The east side of the stadium from the outside looks f-ing horrible though. The weightroom is on the northside of the stadium and the trophy cases are on the westside of the stadium if you wanted to know. Need to know anything let me know buddy.

We never used to have problems milling around with other cu fans in the visitors section. You are near husker fans, but theres buff fans next to you too.

Just to clarify, due to the sell-out, your seat assignment is pretty much going to be your seat. Also, a Nebraska fan section shares the same aisles on either side of the visiting fan section. Being a closed stadium, you can't get away from the red hoarde. I was in one of the higher rows and wanted to move down, but found it tough to improve my situation once the game started.

Most of the other B12 stadiums, you are at the end of the horseshoe, or in the endzone seats, and it's not hard to join the football team at the end of the game for the fight song. But at NU (and UT), you are pretty hemmed in with the locals.

yes, I realize this, I have been to lots of games in that stadium. I was just saying that you also sit next to buffs fans when you are in the visitors section. You are not surrounded by red by any means. I think the last time I was there there wasn't someone in red within touching distance of me, all buffs.

I have no doubt Fusker fan will treat you very well. As long as they're winning. Since that won't be the case, I would sit with as many CU fans as you can. They're in for a big ass kicking and Mr and Mrs Fusker won't be happy about it.

Concur. It must be some 20 years ago or so that I was last there, but you are right, it is worth going. Besides the sea of red, one of the things I remember is how tight the seating is, and that was when the American populace was not as wide as it is now. The seating was wooden benches with numbers carved in. I swear they just sand them down and move them closer together in order to get more capacity.

Our seats always seemed to be smattered among the red hordes. Of course you will enjoy that when CU walks away with a win. Reminds me of the fans of corn sitting behind me and my mother at one game. At half CU was leading. Their conversation included "I can't believe we are losing to THIS team." Of course, that was years before 20-10, so we didn't finish with the win. You should have better fortune.

On one trip we stayed in the same hotel as the team... somewhere I still have a pennant with Brian Cabral's signature... when he was still playing linebacker.

As long as you don't sit in the south or south-west stadiums you'll be fine. Those are the student sections and no one's student sections treat outsiders well.

Going to a game in Lincoln is not bad at all for the fans of visiting teams. Respect is given especially when earned. To those who spout off about Husker fans with out ever experiencing a game there should stay in Boulder.

This is true of just about anywhere. I've been to quite a few opposing stadiums including Boulder many times. Other husker fans come back with horror stories but I've never once had a problem anywhere because even though I'm decked out in red, I keep my mouth shut, regardless of the outcome. There's nothing worse than an obnoxious opponent getting in your face.

If he gets tickets in the south endzone he'll be fine IMO. The student section is in the southeast endzone, but in all the times I've sat in the south endzone the visiting fans around me haven't been harassed at all. Obviously, the closer you get to this section the more your chances go up.

Yep, last year driving up to the game there was a husker fan walking on the sidewalk pointing to his nebraska shirt and nodding his head at buffs fans that drove by. He was just asking to get ****ed with. I never understand these types of fans that just go asking for trouble. Most of the time if you are respectful, you will have a good time including Boulder.
Like you said though, students are a little different. I have seen students get in opposing fans faces just because the fans wore the other colors.

I loved playing in Lincoln. That stadium is the best atmosphere on the road I remember. Better than Michigan, Texas or Oklahoma. It was pretty intense back in the early and mid-90's. Not sure if that has changed with the recent mediocrity of both teams. To be honest, its a lot more fun for all when both teams are good.
