We now take you to Miami, Florida.

Am I the only one rooting for Miami in this case?

Probably pretty close.

Miami is a dirty program. They don't even pretend like they aren't a dirty program, just like they can win their way out of any issues they might have. Winning is more important than being an actual educational institution. How many times does Miami have to be investigated, how often do they have to be shown to be dirty? In this case they aren't even making an arguement that the stuff didn't happen, only that the investigation wasn't done the way their attorney's would like so therefor they should get off. Great deal giving players and recruits (who aren't expected to go to class, just play) money, hookers, blow, etc. and getting off

In the mean time some directional school gets close to the death penalty for giving a walk-on who never plays a candy bar.

those ****ers are gonna get off due to ****ing NCAA Incompetence... un-****ing-beleivable

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/spor...aa-behavior-in-um-case-surfaces-um-aware.html

It makes you wonder if the incompetence is actually an orchestrated handshake, winky-winky deal.

Look at Ohio State's training table violations. We're gonna hammer you!!! Oops...you received your notification one day late, invalidating your sanctions. Clumsy us!

This has a similar feel.

I'm not rooting for Miami here.

What tips it for me is that ex-Miami AD Paul Dee was in the middle of this stuff that went on. He was also a leader on the NCAA infractions committee that dropped the hammer on USC. Hypocrisy pisses me off and the bulk of it is in Miami.

I, for one, am shocked to see you advocating an allegedly dirty team from somewhere south of the Mason Dixon line.

I figured you would like that one. But just to be fair, I'd advocate dirty programs north of the Mason-Dixon line too.

Message sent NCAA

Sounds like Miami will receive no more bowl bans and lose 9 scholarships over 3 years

Providing players with hookers, blow and money costs 3 scholarships. Look for every team in BCS to drop 3 scholarships going forward.

Another amazing episode in how the NCAA turns. Note to CU: if we ever get a real investigation, ensure you have the same incompetent screw ups that managed to document in email and letters attempts to circumvent their own by-laws, leading to the investigation ending prematurely.

This one had death penalty or some of the severest sanctions laid down in history and they screwed it up themselves.

No doubt. That being said, Miami imposed a two year bowl/conference championship ban on themselves (They won their half of the ACC last year). On top of that, the NCAA embarrassed themselves here. With all that said, the NCAA could not have afforded to do more than what they did here IMO. Of course, you have bitching going in Los Angeles and State College, PA, but not much more than that. Another bowl ban for Miami would have meant bad PR coming at them from every direction. The NCAA got the punishment right, if nothing else.

What was our punishment for knocking a couple of bucks off walk on athlete's meals?

They ****ed up the investigation in the first place, like they were gonna get anything. CU would have got raked over the coals. Must be nice to play a title game at your house.

Pretty much universally known as the dirtiest program in all of college football since the '80's yet they get a slap on the wrist. Cheating pays.

Miami self-imposed a 2-year bowl ban which included a CCG, as noted above. The NCAA undoubtedly took that into account. Given how bad the NCAA screwed this one up and the fact that Miami was proactive with their own penalties, the penalty was appropriate if not too severe. And Miami suffered an intangible amount in recruiting while the NCAA dicked around with the investigation for 2 years.

Oh, gee a two year self-imposed bowl ban and some schollies.

Yes the NCAA screwed this up and the NCAA took to long. The penalties are still a joke.

We are talking about a school with a long standard pattern of cheating and cheating big. Talk about lack of institutional control, Miami has shown a pattern of institutional tolerance and even encouragement. As long as they win and are ranked things are fine.

This time around we aren't just talking about some $100 handshakes or some adjustments to a transcript to get a kid in. This time we are talking about well over 100 athletes involved with a major university donor in recieving alcohol, drugs, hookers, and significant cash. All wrapped around parties on boats and other places. In short we aren't just talking about NCAA violations, we are also looking at things that are crimes under state law, violations of the criminal code.

If this is how the NCAA is going to handle things in the future then we might as well just not bother having rules for the teams that are consistently high in the rankings.

This decision is just plain laughable considering what other schools have gotten for doing much, much less.
