Uncertainty whether Nebraska starting quarterback Taylor Martinez will play this week has created more work for Colorado coaches and players as they prepare for the final Buffs-Huskers Big 12 game on Friday. "It's a little too early to say right now," Pelini said. "He got beat up a little bit the last week, and it's too early in the week to really say. It's probably a day-to-day thing. I would expect by the end of the week he's going to be available."If Martinez is not able to play against the Buffs, Nebraska could turn to either Cody Green or Zac Lee. Green would be the most likely option. He has played in seven games this season and Lee has played in four contests. But Martinez is the engine of the entire Interim head coach Brian Cabral smiles while taking about his team during a press conference in Boulder today. Nebraska system, and the Cornhuskers have proven to be much less effective when he is not available.
Optimist: The Colorado offense is finally moving the ball and scoring points like it belongs in the Big 12 Conference because of lots of hard work and persistence from players and coaches.Pessimist: Did anyone notice the Colorado offensive explosion the past three weeks has come against three of the worst defenses -- particularly against the run -- in the Big 12?
Cynic: Colorado fired coach Dan Hawkins two weeks ago. Taking him out of the equation has made the offense better.
Realist: It`s a combination of the three, and let`s face it, the Buffs have played their best ball all year at home.
No matter where you`re coming from, two things are clear as the Buffs prepare for the their final regular season game this season Friday at Nebraska. The offense is riding a wave of confidence and the Buffs are going to need to step it up another notch or two to beat the Cornhuskers and earn a spot in the postseason.
"I don`t want to sound like Bugs Bunny before he played the Monstars but Nebraska is a great football team," quarterback Cody Hawkins said. "They`re big, they`re strong, they`re fast, they`re physical, they`re well-coached. Luckily we`ve got a lot of leaders on this team and a lot of competitive guys. We`re willing to watch the tape and if they don`t have any weaknesses we`re going to try to find some or make some up. We`re just going to have to go out and play hard."

During the past two weeks, the University of Nebraska offense hasn’t been very impressive. The Cornhuskers (9-2, 5-2 in the Big 12) managed just 20 points against Kansas, which ranks 103rd in scoring defense, on Nov. 13. Then, they couldn’t get into the end zone in a 9-6 loss to Texas A&M last week....“You’ve got to expect his best,” CU interim coach Brian Cabral said of Martinez. “The most dangerous animal is a wounded animal. Going into this game, I wouldn’t doubt that his ankle gets miraculously better. We’ll see his best. He’s a great competitor.”
When Martinez was at his best early in the year, he was in the conversation for the Heisman Trophy. With him leading the way, the Huskers started 5-0, including a 48-13 rout at Kansas State in which he ran for 241 yards and four touchdowns and threw for 128 yards and another score.
“When Taylor Martinez is healthy, they’re as potent as anybody in the country,” CU defensive coordinator Ron Collins said. “You look at some of the games he’s played in and what they did to Missouri, what they did to Oklahoma State, K-State, that’s scary. That’s very scary.”

It is by no means a done deal, but after two impressive wins, no longer is anyone involved in the search dismissing him or underestimating his capability to do the job.

Tad Boyle wanted to send a message to his team. That message appeared to get through on Tuesday night. The University of Colorado men’s basketball team had its best defensive effort of the season in routing Alcorn State 91-51 at Coors Events Center. "To me, it’s about where this program’s identity needs to come from, and I think we took a step forward in that tonight," Boyle said. "We’ll give ourselves a chance every single night if we do those two things: We’ll defend and rebound."
Before we dive into a gluttonously good week, The Dash must note the building acrimony as Nebraska (2) plays its final games as a member of the Big 12 (3).This divorce could be reaching the stage of throwing potted plants at each other in the front yard as the moving vans load up belongings...It was all on display Saturday in Texas A&M's 9-6 victory over the Cornhuskers in College Station -- uncontrolled sideline rage, questionable calls, cheap shots; you name it.

Dr. Tom needs to have a talk with his head coach, perhaps explaining that Jim Delany is much less inclined than Dan Beebe to tolerate the Linda Blair "Exorcist" routine from a millionaire head coach.
Really, what Osborne needs to do is give Pelini a one-game suspension -- but with rival Colorado looming and a chance to win the North Division and play in one final Big 12 championship game, don't expect that to happen.

Quarterback Cody Hawkins has played his two best games of the year since his dad, Dan, got the ziggy as head coach. No. 15 Nebraska 19, Colorado 13: Nebraska's defense is playing better than it has all season. Its offense is playing as poorly as it has all season. It's anyone's guess as to if or how well Taylor Martinez plays on Saturday, but he won't be the same Martinez that routinely racked up 125 yards on the ground early in the season. Without being able to plant on that ankle, Martinez's passing mechanics suffered against Texas A&M as well. Nebraska finds enough offense to win with Rex Burkhead and Roy Helu Jr., but it's close against a Colorado team that's finally utilizing its apparent talent.
After what happened last Saturday it frankly shocks me he hasn't been suspended for Friday's Colorado game. Pelini has had to apologized for his behavior before and Monday was no exception. He went to his press conference and gave his standard 'I'm sorry. It won't happen again and I'll work harder to make sure it doesn't happen again, blah, blah, blah."
