What a joke, Kasa going to Florida.

Once this starts, its the beginning of the end.. Spin it all you want, but if you can't get the best kids in Colorado to play for you, how are you going to convince players from out of state to come here?

Im sure our staff will recruit another kicker who can't kick and add a couple more QB commits and keep the DL to 3 commits.

It sucks to lose Kasa, but is it realistic to expect CU to get the top in-state player every single year? The coaches worked their asses off and really did all they could to lure him to Boulder. In the end, he chose a program that is in line to play for the national championship this year and moving to Florida, something his father has pushing for all along. Sometimes it just doesn't work out.

Now if it becomes a troubling pattern under Hawk (i.e, 2010 and 2011), then you have a point. But right now, not so much.

I suppose you are right, but him being a DL which is a position we have struggled to get talent into here, makes it more difficult to accept..

I'm still on the Hawk bandwagon, but this year was a complete step-back..

I totally agree that the DL recruiting is a concern. Losing Kasa doesn't help. If we lose the top in-state guys the next couple recruiting cycles, then it time to start worrying.

Also, next year is supposed to be a very talented year for high school talent in the state (this year is considered a relatively weak year). It will be vital to land some commits.

Is there a list anywhere? I know the QB from Columbine (probably end up at LB), Coulter from Creek QB.

Not sure who else? probably half of Mullens team

Austin Hinder-QB out of Steamboat Springs (might be the #1 prospect in the state, possible top 100 nationally)

Mister Jones-RB out of Littleton (likes us quite a bit early on)

Dylan Heitsmith-OG out of Bear Creak (might be a DT in college)

Not every program gets its best in-state player. USC or any of the other California Pac-10 schools didn't land Scott. Texas didn't get Adrian Peterson.

It sucks. At mid-season, I thought if Hawk were to land Kasa (who always seemed to lean towards UF) then he definitely deserved his contract extension. The borders need to be closed as best as they can be, but it's not realistic for CU to always get the best player in-state.

I think the more troubling aspect is when we lose 3 stars to other out of state programs, IMO. The top guys get offers from the elite programs that are certainly hard to turn down (better facilities, bigger stadiums and better fan support, better coaching staffs from the top-down with a good track record), but once the 3 stars start leaving for other schools then we are in trouble.

I almost hope this kid goes somewhere else, just so I can avoid the constant reminders of the worlds worst musical group.

Don't get too troubled. CU is getting most of the kids they want. The ones we aren't getting mostly are getting luke-warm interest from CU.

You always will lose kids for "connection" reasons. My dad went to Mizzou... we are from Nebraska and big Nebraska fans.... My Uncle is at Colorado.... I'm a Hawaiian LB and Cabral wears those skirts.... I want to play for Nick Saban.... Kasa was pro-Florida from the get go and it really was a done deal if it all came together for him. Miller didn't have that connection and he wanted to be a Buff as much as he wanted to play at Notre Dame - in other words, it was a fair fight. Some go that way and some don't.

Right now we have about 20 offers to various WR's and we ain't getting them all. If we get solid commits from the number we are looking for, some other kids will be told that their offer is now gone. Hawkins plays the other side of this. How many WR's will sign with USC? Not all of them that are currently considering going there! We may not be on the A-list for a few of them yet, as they are still waiting on USC. But if USC tells them no thanks in January, they are now looking at plan B. It's a big poker game going on right now, which is why our class is not full.

Texas and schools like that have their pick of their in-state kids and they have much less certainty of who they are going to get. They just have to decide who they want and then they fill up early. Hawk is seeing what's left over. He's recruiting kids from the get go to get them here, but some of them are thinking that USC is the place to be. OK - let's see how it shakes out. Along the way, we string along our second options. Also, we change our mind sometimes. But there is a pecking order that has to fill up and we are not at the top 95% of the time. We are snatching up some scraps and trying to work our way up the food chain.

CU is getting most of the in-staters that they really want and that's a welcome change from 5 years ago. But the in-staters only make up a small part of our team. We need to win against the Pac-10ers that are scrambling for USC's crumbs and win in Texas against a host of competition, and start to kick butt in Arizona which is really coming on as a talent hub. And pull some kids from PA and OH because there are lots of good footballers there..... etc.

Don't change it h8er. Even when Darrell was a commit to Texass, h8er kept his faith and we prevailed. It shall work again. No worries ya'll, Kasa will be a Buff.

Don't worry, I've got a plan to get him to stay. I'm going to have a girl sleep with him and if she doesn't get pregnant from that, I'll get her pregnant (through the hole in my boxers cuz thats my thing) and she will tell him the baby is his and he has to stay in Colorado.

I really have a hard time with local kids leaving the state to sell their souls to renegade, win at all cost, programs. I just have to bite my lip. There is not one program in the state of Forida that I have even an iota of respect for. But, I guess, thats just me. If a kid's priority were academics first and athletics second, there would be no question as to the choice he/she would make, IMO.

One more thing. I remember just about every big time Colorado High School recruit who turned his/her back on CU to got to a "powerhouse" with great disdain. I could probably rap off 10 or 15 of 'em right off the bat.

Isn't this kin to the fat kid getting mad cuz the cheerleader chose to date the star quarterback instead of him?

If you aren't trying to win at all costs why be in the conference? Major college football is win at all costs......

And if players were concerned about academics as well as athletics there are 33 other BCS schools that are higher ranked than CU (at least according to US news) including three Big 12 south schools, 3 SEC schools, and two schools from that state that you hate....florida. And several of those schools (Texas, Florida, Miami, Virgina Tech, USC, Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Georgia to name a few) can put you in a good position to play for a national championship unlike CU.

Kids aren't selling out. They're choosing successful products. Hard to convince an 18 year old to come out when the team has put out a mediocre product since he was 7 years old.

The fact that the Buffs graduated all their players says alot about how far the program has fallen..........football wise. 100% graduation rates don't sell seats or luxury boxes.

So I left orlando to go to CU, I could have stayed at UCF and help them rise to I-AA power status...did I sell my soul to a renegade win at all cost program?

DBT, these kids are 18. Some kids need to go far away and some need to stay close to home.

Why does any kid have an obligation to go to the local school? Every student athlete should go to the school where he fits best personally. Getting upset with the kids over this is ridiculous, he would be doing himself a dis service by not going to where he felt best.

Doesn't CU try to recruit players from other states to leave their home state favorites?

A couple of things work against CU - consistent winning tradition. From 1987 thru 1996 CU was one of the top programs in the country. Kids locally and around the country grew up dreaming of being Buffs. We have lost some of that. Kids that are graduating now were 5 years old in 96. It you are a top recruit in the country then you might gravitate towards a program with a shot at a title.

In many cases not enough local ties to program. Ryan Miller's grandfather use to take him to the CU games and he always wanted to be a Buff...that helps. Kids in Texas grow up wanting to be a Longhorn even if no one in their family went to UT. That does not happen enough in Colorado.
