What effect did the KU years have on Webb?

This is my big concern about Jordan.

He took an absolute beating there.

We saw something similar with Cody. In 2007, Cody had a very good year for a redshirt freshman QB. Early in 2008, the offensive line started to suffer injuries and beginning at the Florida State game Cody started to get pressured a ton and take a lot of hits. He was never the same.

In the 2nd half on Saturday, after Webb had taken some hits and was dealing with a hip pointer, he turned into a different quarterback.

With Hansen, we had a guy who played loose despite the pressure on him. But even with him, we saw a big change after the spleen hit on that option. It took half a season before he was back to himself after that.

I'm starting to think that the only way Webb gets past what he's been through is if the OL comes together and gives him time to get comfortable again -- and then we might see him become a playmaker when things break down instead of shrinking when that happens.

I don't know how it effected him... but he looked like every QB at CU for the last 10 years or so... take the snap and start running for your life while trying to shake off tacklers and picking themselves off the ground play after play....I hope he can last the season taking the beating he is taking. Dillon is probably thinking, crap I don't want out there, that doesn't look fun.

I wouldn't blame Webb if he is asking himself if he is willing to take that beating in 11 more games this season. The OL needs to do a far better job protecting the QB.

CH was never the same when DC's figured out he couldn't beat them deep. DC's loaded the box, stuffed the run and brought the heat on passing downs, knowing CH was no threat to run or burn them deep.

Webb can run, but for cryin' out loud, somebody has to be able to pick up a blitz. If anything, Webb is probably about as adept as a QB can be at running for his life after playing at KU. He doesn't have the strongest arm, but he threw some nice deep balls....even if McCullogh stopped running and/or had a different route in mind.

I disagree. Cody threw a great deep ball. Not ona rope or anything, but if he could step into the throw it was pretty damn accurate. He just had to have time to throw it and had to have good mechanics to make it work. Which he didn't, usually. This OL issue needs to resolve before hope will exist in Boulderfor its football program.

There is a difference between a punt disguised as a pass, and a QB with an arm who can throw a strike 25-40 yards downfield. CH had the former, a qb that can make the blitz pay has the latter. I don't want to resurrect the CH controversy and now wish I had just stuck to Webb. Webb has a good, but not great arm. He can get the ball downfield if he isn't shucking DL before he even gets set to throw. Hell, I played OL and I could throw the ball 50 yards in the air....maybe I should have had my dad coach a D 1 team.....

There's a common misconception that a QB needs a big arm to throw a good deep ball. Absolutely not true.

The big arm is needed for the deep outs and the throws into small windows in traffic.

Good example of this is Cody vs Tyler. Tyler had a bigger arm and could make more throws, but Cody threw a much nicer deep ball. More touch and accuracy.

Whatever the point is, next time Webb gets injured enough that his arm turnsi nto a noodle (which it was in the 2d half) the coaches better be willing to put in a different QB. With no running game, that was awful.

Assuming our OL is going to be subpar all year, which is likely, I think we get Wood in there who is more of a threat running and can huck it...maybe stretch the defense a little with Thomas in there.

Would like to see: Wood for Webb, Creer for Jones, Nembot for anyone, anyone but Kasa and start Thomas over McCullough. McC was good, but we need some speed and Thomas can light it up.

Webb doesnt throw a very catchable ball IMO. He really rifles it when its not always necessary.

Why would you want to play Nembot? Guy's still learning how to play football. Ideally, I don't want to see him play much until his RS-Junior year in 2014.

I'm still waiting for an o/line coach to teach the big guys how to pick up d/line stunts. It wasn't blitzes that got through all the time.

Also notice how often the receivers were having to slide to catch the football. He was throwing way too low for most of the game.

Hope it was just first game jitters or the short-term effects of the injury, but most of the balls thrown from the pocket seemed too low, and the balls thrown on the run seemed too high. Throwing behind the recievers was a problem too.

Looked to always have a little bit of downward tilt on the nose of the ball.

Mangino. Webb enrolled early, Mangino got fired, and Gill coached him his entire time at KU.

False. Webb redshirted one year under mangino, then played 2 under Gill.

Simple deduction my good man. Gill only coached 2 years, and Webb is a Redshirt Junior.
